Thirty-Two

Lilith’s POV

The sound of grunting woke me before I felt the burn of wolfsbane touch my skin. My eyes darted to the shutter to find it open. The antibiotic that woman gave me must have sent me to a deep sleep that I hadn’t heard it open. Again, the sounds of grunting hit my ears making me wonder where it was coming from. On the far side of the room was a door which must have been where the others were. Suddenly the door sung open three men carrying someone to the side of me before dumping the unconscious person on the ground only to cuff them to the wall. When one of the men ripped the canvas sack from his head bile rose in my throat.

Mykel’s eyes were both black, his nose was broken, and his lip was split. His entire face had swollen beyond recognition, but I knew it was him. My legs turned to jelly as I watched him struggle to breathe, one of the men pouring water over his face to wake him.
