Elle seems a little distracted when we get to the house to work on our lesson with her. All she does is hand us each a couple of rudimentary books on runes and tell us to start studying. About half an hour into the lesson she then hands out some sheets with runes on them that she wants us to translate. It is slow work that takes quite a while for us to translate but eventually we get the sheets figured out.
Each one that she handed us translates into a simple spell. After we translate them she has us copy and perfect each one. Even the wrong placement of a line by a centimeter can change the entire spell so she checks them over and has us redo them until she deems them to be absolutely perfect. Then she dismisses us before grabbing a cloak and heading back out.
"She seems awfully distracted today. Do you think that it is all because of the runes that you found in the den?" Julia asks me.

"Well, now that dinner is over we should get the patrols started. Sorry Julia but I will have to have you return to the house. You do not have to stay there but without one of us around I do not want any of the wolves to think that you are fair game for any reason. Most listen really well even when we are not around but for now I would prefer of one of us or Elle were with you at all times." I tell her."That is alright. I understand. We start out following the same route as the night before. None of the wolves in my patrol are the ones that were with me last night thankfully. I do not want them thinking that every time I go out on patrol I am going to do something strange.We fan out and follow the same general idea as the last time that we went out. We make sure that the men stick with the women and show them what all to look out for. There is not quite enough wolves for anybody to be paired with me but after years of living in these woods I think I can manage a simple patrol.As we approach the den, I send my awareness deeper into the den. I can feel Elle still in there, sitting on the floor and sketching the runes onto paper. There are countless papers scattered around her in no particular order. When we get back to the pack house to swap out patrols I see the next set of patrols eyeing me a little differently. They must have all been gossiping about what had happened through their mind link. Granted they cannot all mind link everybody like Dante and I can but spouses can definitely speak to each other and before they switched back into their wolf forms communication would have been no issue. So, of course, everyone knows what happened on patrol today."Let's go! Let's get this patrol done so I can get back home and relax." I say to them all before turning and running off again.I do not wait to see if my group follows me or not, I just keep running. Little did we know that that night after we left with all of the papers, Elle ended up staying in the den for the night. We do not find out that she did not make it back to her house until the next morning but then after how busy of a day that we had I am not surprised that nobody was able to wake us to let us know. Especially with how my night went.As soon as I laid in bed I found my eyelids drifting shut almost against my will. It reminded me of sinking into a deep pool. For a while you might let yourself sink before realizing that you need to start swimming to get out. Only this time, when I started to swim I found myself in dreams that I could not wake from.I was standing on a precipice. There was a big yawning darkness stretching out as far as I could see in front and to the sides of me. Behind me I could see a small stone path that gets darker the farther away it gets. The jog might not clear my mind the way that I had hoped but it does help to clarify some of what happened and what all I need to do. First, I need to let Dante know what I was told. Then, I need to let Elle know. I feel like if what I was told was true then I need to keep both halves of myself involved at all times. Dante most definitely helps ground me to my werewolf half and Elle does the same with my witch half so if I am going to make complete sense of what the dream told me then I want them both included in everything that I had learned.Jogging back to the pack house, I am happy to find that Dante is now awake and getting ready for the day."Early morning jog? I walk up to Elle quietly so that I do not startle her. She has her head laying on her arms which are crossed over countless papers strewn across the table. It must have been a long night if she is still asleep in such an uncomfortable hunched over position.I reach out and gently touch her shoulder. I do not need to shake her or say anything as she jumps up at the slightest touch. She looks around startled but seems to calm slightly upon seeing that it is just Dante and myself."What time is it? I must have fallen asleep but I can't imagine that I was sleeping that long." She says bewildered."It is about an hour passed dawn. I had not realized that you slept here until recently or else I would have come and woke you up sooner. Is everything okay?" I ask concerned."Yes, I think it is. Contemplating an entire day alone with Dante is almost a daunting task. I have never had to figure out what to do in spare time before. We normally do not really have spare time so we just plan to squeeze something in if we can. Not plan an entire day out for both of us.During the group training I find that I am more distracted than I usually am. I cannot seem to keep myself focused on what I am teaching the others. Luckily Kevin and Dante are able to help keep everyone on track and my shadow people do not need me to watch them the entire time. Instead, they are spelled to work until the lesson is over without me having to do anything."What has you so distracted today?" Dante asks as I pass by him."Not much.
