"I-, I don't know who to pick", he said unsure, his hands fidgeting nervously as he intertwined his fingers.

“Make up your mind”, I said , urging him.

“Calvin, we don't have all day”, said Mrs Jones, exhausted from our little antics.

“If you don't make up your mind I am going to choose for you”, she said.

Looking at us both, Calvin made up his mind. “I choose Kiana”, he said finally.

“I am so sorry”, he whispered to zoe.

I stood beside him smiling triumphantly, as if I just won a gold medal.

“Zoe can you please join Lina”, Mrs Jones said as she pointed to Lina's direction.

Feeling scorned, She picked up her bag and books, while giving me and Calvin a dirty look as she walked away towards Lina's desk.

Throughout the school day, Zoe refused to talk to me or even  acknowledge my presence. Even when we boarded the school bus to go home, I kept a seat for her in our usual position and when she entered the bus, she ignored my tapping on the seat and went to sit down with another group of friends.

This went on for about a week until Calvin and I went to her house to talk to her.

“What do you want”, she asked as she stood in the doorway to her room, blocking us from entering the room.

“We came to talk to you”, I said. “You've been ignoring us the past week, Why?”, I asked, folding my arms to seem more serious.

“Don't you guys remember”, she said as she turned her attention away from me towards Calvin turned to Calvin.

“Is it because of what happened during the lab period?", Calvin asked. Are you angry because of that?

“Ummm yeah!”, she retorted as she made a face while raising her hands up.

“I am sorry for that, I promise I will choose you next time”, he said.

“I am also sorry for picking him when I saw you did it first”, i said apologising.

Have you forgiven us, I said nervously.

“Yes”, she said.

Ohh thank God, phew, i hated you being mad at me, it made me sad throughout the week cause i had nobody to laugh at people with”, i said as i blew a sigh of relief.

“And I am also sorry I got mad at you guys, guess I was feeling a certain way, maybe jealous that you chose each other ", she replied truthfully.

(Flashback ending, back to present…)

I think that was the last time we ever had a misunderstanding over a boy.

After my breakfast, I decided to go back to my routine of painting and working at the gallery in town.

I decided to avoid Alexandria completely and to not do anything to arouse suspicion.

At home, I dedicated my time to painting a piece that was ordered by Asher to commemorate his new apartment and also the end of their band's tour.

I locked myself for almost three days in an unused room that i converted to my personal painting room,

As I waited for the paint to dry, before I applied varnish, I decided to take a break by strolling around the garden by the corner of the compound.

I took in the fresh air and the sounds of birds chirping as I strolled. I bent down to admire and take in the scent of the trimmed tulips, as it wrapped its scent around me and I got lost in it.

Snapping me out of my trance was a low whisper saying, “has he done it yet?, i don't want to have to remind him, cause he would not like it then, I will not repeat myself”.

Through the corners of my eyes, I saw a dark shadow at the end of the garden facing the wall.

I already knew it was Alexandria. In my few weeks of being here, I noticed that  there were times when I would see him hiding to either make a call or 0ick up a phone call either.

Not wanting to eavesdrop any further, I slowly stood up from my position and walked backwards slowly, making sure to not make a sound.

I was almost at the door when I accidentally hit the door frame.

“Who’s that?. Who is there?” he asked again, his voice louder than before echoing.

I ran to my painting room as fast as my legs could carry me. Panting as I locked the door and slid to the ground, taking quick deep breaths.

“That was close, what would he have done if he saw it was me”, I said to myself as I regained my composure.

I stood up to check on my painting I left behind to dry, when a loud knock stopped me in my tracks.

My heart beating loudly, I prayed it wouldn't be Alexandria. The knocking was heard again, this time louder than the previous one.

“Please God, don't let it be him, I don't want to face him now”.

I held my breath, hoping he would turn away.

“Kiana, kiana, i know you're in there”, his voice called out loudly.

Open this door, I just want to talk to you. Slowly walking towards the door, I was almost at the door when I hesitated.

“You don't want to ruin your good mood, do you?”, I asked myself.

‘You know he is only here to ask you about the conversation you heard in the garden, what if it goes wrong like the last conversation you two had.

Not wanting to waste my time and breath on him, I decided to ignore his calls for me to open the door.

“I know you're ignoring me, don't make me break this door to get you to talk to me”, he continued.

“For the love of God, just open this door”, he said pleading.

“Okay since you've made up your mind to not open the door” he said a few minutes later. “Could you at least tell me what part of the conversation you heard”.

In a loud stern voice that sent shivers down my spine and also shook my core, he shouted, “Open this door now”.

We walked to his study, silence filling the air around us, as he opened the door to the study, flipping the light switch, and light entirely lit filled the room. “Sit down” he said, patt

I was meeting my boyfriend Calvin and my friends, Zoe and Asher later in the evening. I kept rummaging my head thinking of a way to tell them this news. I sat in front of my dresser putting on my version of minimal makeup, which was basically a mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss. I dreaded meeting up with them, and so i tried coming up with various excuses just to cancel this meeting. But I knew that if I butt out they would automatically know something was wrong. So reluctantly, I just settled on meeting up that day. We met up at our favorite corner cafe in town. We were four in our friend group, me, my friend turned boyfriend Calvin, my childhood friends, Zoe and asher. “Hey, hey, hey”, Asher said walking in with Zoe. “How’s everybody doing”. “I’m good”, I said standing up to hug them. “Where’s Calvin” Zoe asked. “Oh, he’ll soon be here, he’s just looking for where to park his car, you know he’s crazy about his car”. I said calmly while sitting down. Zoe noticed my mood a

Today is my wedding day. Finally, the long awaited day has finally come. I’ve been dreading this day all week and at the same time also praying for it to come sooner so I could get it over with and put it behind me. I sat in the bridal chair in my hotel room as the hairstylist my mother had booked for today worked on my hair, and my makeup was already done. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t hear my mother call out my name until the hair stylist tapped me softly, snapping me back to the present while walking away. I was already in a bad mood as I woke up earlier than usual today, which was something I never liked doing. I just needed my best friends to make me feel better. Only them knew how to lift my spirits up. “Ohh, yes mum, you called me, is there any problem?”I said, looking at her, realizing that I had kept her standing at the door as I was lost in my thoughts. “Nothing, I just wanted to know if you were done with dressing up," she said while coming closer to take a

An hour after we left the wedding venue we reached a mansion which was located towards the outskirts of the city. A silent gasp left my throat as it came into view, making alexandria turn his head towards me with a smirk on his face. It was a beautiful mansion, surrounded by very big trees forming a type of fence around it. The path to the entrance was a classic style stone path. The house was a very large mansion with four big pillars, two on each end. The exterior was painted a milky white color. Impressed by what I saw, I gave a slight nod of approval, happy that at least i wouldn’t have to deal with him seeing how big the house was. We could sleep on opposite ends of the house and not disturb each other. “Welcome to your new home”, said Alexandria. “Yeah, home sweet home”, I said with a tight smile not wanting to seem too ecstatic about my new home and my living arrangements. Just outside the door stood a middle aged Latina woman, who was sizing me up with her eyes. She bow

(Kiana’s p.o.v) After the altercation with Alexandria downstairs, i was still in shock and rattled from what he said. I sat down on the couch for about ten minutes to regain my composure and to think about my new life with him. "Is this how life is going to be with him?", i asked myself. "Does this mean that anytime I meet someone, either a friend or colleague?, If he dislikes and doesn't approve of that person, does this mean he would threaten me with their life like he did just now". I think in my almost three decades of life on this earth, no one has ever scared the living daylight out of me the way Alexandria just did. It dawned on me that the rumours about the man I married were likely true. Scared shitless for Calvin, I made up my mind to do everything in my power to avoid any meeting with him. I picked up my phone, texting the group chat, saying, " Guys from now henceforth, I will no longer be meeting you guys in public". "Why? What's with the dramatics this early morn

"Those were the names of my estranged twin siblings, whom I hadn't spoken to for over 2 decades or almost three decades," I said out loud to myself Racking my brain on why they would even think of doing this to me when we haven't spoken to each other for a very long time. They were older than me by three years. "What could I have done to them to deserve this?" "Is it because I abandoned the whole family years ago or what?" I asked myself all these questions, but I'm not sure about the right answer. I knew it was time to visit my family and confront them. Because of jealousy, they basically made me sell my daughter to Alexandria. I wonder how he is treating my Kiana. Overwhelmed with so much emotion, tears began to pool in my eyes. I tried to suppress this big emotion that was eating me away, most especially the feeling of extreme guilt towards my family, mostly my daughter. I decided to keep this information to myself because I knew if I told my wife, knowing the p
