The sorceresses returned, and so did my sanity; however, from the expressions on their faces, something was very wrong.

"What's wrong?" I asked calmly, and Val looked at me in a daze.

"We achieved the objective; however, one of the men we enchanted decided to attack us just at that instant, and seeing how the spell acts was somewhat shocking," she said, and I nodded.

"How did the humans take the situation?" I asked carefully.

"For what it is: a threat," the matriarch replied firmly. "If they hated us before, now they detest us to a pathological degree, so we have to be much more careful. They're going to hesitate about how to attack us, but when they find the perfect way to do it, they won't hesitate to come back. They are primal, stubborn beings who believe in themselves very much."

"This isn't over," I said earnestly, and they nodded.

"It's just the beginning; the reality is that this is going for more, so we must strengthen everything."
