Alice

Jackson and I slept happily—so happily that we didn't notice the commotion outside. It wasn't until Bianca knocked on the door to the point of almost kicking it down that we emerged from our love nest.

"What's wrong?" I asked a little dizzily.

Jackson opened the door, and my friend looked at me with surprise.

"They've attacked the last truck with the supplies Enya ordered," Bianca said, and my face went pale. "They have kidnapped one of the sorceresses they saw in it and killed the other one. That one they impaled and hung outside the entrance."

My mouth fell open in disbelief, and fury surged through my veins.

I ran out of the cabin with Jackson behind me.

Both he and Bianca kept asking me to calm down, but it was impossible to do so. As I approached, I heard the collective cry of everyone and saw how they were gathered around looking at Mica, the girl who had been tortured. There were marks on her hands, and the matriarch was caressing them with tears in her eyes.
