Chapter 2
Friday had finally come. I was at my locker packing up my books to take home for the weekend when Alyssa came skipping down the hallway.“Uhm hello, did you really think you could keep it a secret?” Alyssa asked.“What on earth are you talking about” I asked her with a quizzical look.“I heard you’re going to have Alpha Leo and his fine as hell son staying at your house”, Alyssa squealed with excitement“Uh, yea the council asked dad if we could host them for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. With dad working a lot with the pack doctor lately I guess they thought it was a good idea. Sorry I didn’t realize it would be such a big deal to you” I said to her, slamming my locker shut.“I’ve heard he’s hot as hell. I wouldn’t mind getting me a piece of that”, Alyssa reiterated as she bit her lower lip.I rolled my eyes at her. I guess her and Jace broke up, yet again.“Well I doubt I’ll see him at all I have a few shifts at the bakery this weekend and a ton of homework so…”Alyssa rolled her eyes. “Girl can you just live a little for once! You’re going to have the hottest bachelor around staying in your house for the weekend. You know he hasn’t found his mate yet so he’s fair game”“Yea yea whatever. Do you even know anything about him?” I asked her.To be honest I didn’t even know Alpha Leo’s son’s name.“Let’s see I hear his name is Alex, he’s 6”3, pure muscle, dark hair, green eyes, and dreamy” She sighed.“Oh c’mon you can’t have learned that much about him already”“Girl, do you even know me?” She smiled.I know at one point the council got together and they thought about combining our schools to make one large high school, but some of the elders shot down the idea, not wanting to risk mixing our kind together with the wolves. It was ok having a treaty with them, but even think of mating with them and the elders would have your head. The council was very strict on pure bred magic. They did not like outsiders and did not like when people mixed blood. Eventually though we’d have to expand right? I mean we can’t be marrying our cousins! It was my hope when the current elders all stepped down and people like my brother took their place that things around here would start to change.I never quite understood what the big deal was. We were all magical beings. It was very hard for us to find someone of our own kind. Some of us after high school travel to other covens around the world in search of someone, but you needed permission from the council to leave town, and it was typically only ever granted to the original founding families of the town. I wish witches could find their mate the way werewolves do. Have someone pre-destined for you that you recognize as your soul mate on your 18th birthday. It sounds so easy, but I guess you have to find the person first. What if you didn’t like them? Then what?Hm. Well I guess that’s something I’ll never have to worry about. Witches don’t get a chosen mate, we get to find the loves of our lives the old fashion way, not that there’s a whole lot to chose from in this town.Chapter 3Alex I don’t know why my dad insists I go to this stupid elder ceremony. I know we have to be nice to them and pretend to get along, but I was really looking forward to a nice run on the equinox. We don’t have to shift except for on the full moon, but any type of celestial holiday or event our wolves tend to get a little pent up. There was no chance I would be able to shift in front of a coven of witches. I doubt half of them have ever even seen an actual werewolf in person. Dad said we’re staying with their doctor and his family. Apparently he has a daughter a little younger than me that’s still in high school. No doubt my dad is trying to force me to make friends with them. “Be nice, courteous, and respectful”, he always says. What am I a Boy Scout? I know as future alpha of one of the largest packs in the northeast that I should be ok with all the pomp and circumstance, but I find these types of things incredibly dull. I’m what you would call an adrenaline junkie. I wo
Chapter 4Sierra I was so glad the weekend was finally here. This school year was going to be so long, being so close to freedom, yet so far. I looked down at my phone buzzing and it was Stella, the owner of the bakery. I rolled my eyes at her text: “hey dear do you think you could come in for a few hours Stephanie called out sick and I could use the extra hand”. I quickly typed back that I could come by, but only for a couple of hours. Alpha Leo and his son were due sometime this evening so I’m sure mom and dad wanted me home for when they arrived.I had been picking up more shifts than usual trying to save every single penny I could. To be honest I didn’t mind making the extra cash. I hoped that if I saved enough for my trip my parents would actually let me go. Since I would be 18 in a few weeks I don’t see how they could stop me, but they’re still my parents so it’s not so easy to just disrespect their wishes. There was also the council’s permission I needed, but honestly would
Chapter 5Alex I rolled my eyes when my dad offered this girl a ride home. He’s always such a people pleaser and way too nice to everyone. Dad always says that a good alpha knows how to be a leader without instilling fear in people. Something I have yet to master. I peered through my dads car window trying to get a look at the doctor’s daughter and was struck by a pair piercing blue eyes staring back at me. All at once I felt all the breath leave my body. She was absolutely gorgeous with long brown hair and big blue eyes that could see right through you. Her voice carried through the car window breaking me from my haze. “Sure that would be nice thank you” as she walked over to the door to the back seat and opened it. She struggled slightly to get in and looked up at me somewhat embarrassed.“Short people problems”, she laughed shyly and shrugged her shoulders The moment she got in I got hit with the most intoxicating smell. It smelled like cinnamon and sugar mixed with something f
Chapter 6Sierra I walked as quickly as I could down the hall as to not seem suspicious. I walked across the main living area quickly glancing at my dad engrossed in conversation with Alpha Leo, mom, and Dave. I slip past them unnoticed and make my way to my room on the other side of the house. I quickly shut the door to my bedroom and put my back up against the door. I was breathing heavy and felt slightly light headed. What the hell was that?!? Was he trying to flirt with me? Seriously? I mean the boy is absolutely gorgeous. Alyssa wasn’t joking. He had to be at least as tall as his dad if not taller. He had on a simple Van Halen t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but even through his clothing I could tell he was pure muscle. I wonder what he looked like under all those clothes. I scolded myself, what the hell is wrong with me? I’ve never thought about a guy like this before I’ve always just been so focused on school, and the guys in my town are so immature and annoying. There was jus
Chapter 7Alex Needless when I saw the tray of lasagna aimlessly floating through the air it took me by surprise. Obviously I’m in a witch’s house why would something like that surprise me. I felt so embarrassed by my sudden outburst. I felt dad chuckle softly next to me. Everything up until this point had seemed so normal I almost forgot where I was. Normally Ajax and I are so in sync, attuned and aware of everything going on around us, but since Sierra walked into the dining room and sat down across from us wearing that little low cut shirt he has done nothing but pace back and forth in my head. ‘Dude, seriously what’s going on with you?’ I questioned him ‘I don’t know something about this girl has got me going nuts. The desire to claim her is overwhelming’ Ajax replied Suddenly I look over to her and she’s staring at me with so many questions burning in her eyes. It was an interesting dinner to say the least. I know they’re just as curious about my kind as I am about theirs.
Chapter 8Sierra Well dinner was a total shit show. As soon as Alex leaves the table I instantly feel bad. I help mom clean up the table and do the dishes. She scolds me for being less than a gracious host and tells me to go an apologize to Alex before I head to bed for the night. As soon as the door swings open I see him standing there shirtless. His pants hanging off his hips in the most seductive way. My mouth goes dry as I take him in. Suddenly he clears his throat and I’m embarrassed that I was caught ogling him. “See something you like” he says I don’t know what I was thinking inviting him to the bonfire, but I felt bad and its going to be a fun time. He seemed wary about going, but hopefully he says yes. I head back towards my room when I see Dave rummaging through the fridge for the leftover lasagna. After his comment Dad made him leave without ever getting a plate of food. “Man, those werewolves are weird as hell aren’t they?” He practically whispers “Oh they’re not so
Chapter 9Sierra It was finally time to leave the house for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. Alyssa and I made our way to the main living room where everyone was waiting. “Aw you look beautiful darling”, my mom says I look down at my feet, embarrassed. “Uh thanks mom.” I look up and see Alex staring at me and I feel heat pool between my legs. What the hell is wrong with me. This guy is unwinding me with just a look. I need to get it together. Just then the image of him shirtless from last night flashes through my mind and I flush a deep shade of pink. I can see the flash in his eyes as he brings his tongue to lick his lower lip as if he wants to devour me. Dad speaks up breaking us from our little trance. “Feel free to follow us in your car. I know you’re not entirely familiar to our town just yet” he says warmly We head out to the east side of town that has been set up with a stage and outdoor tents. When an elder retires the town goes all out. When we arrive there are platters of food f
Chapter 10 SierraSeriously he was going to scoff at witches? I know we weren’t all friendly but now I know how he truly feels about us. He thinks he’s above us because he’s a werewolf and the future alpha. You have to be shitting me. “Do you smell that” he says grabbing my arm as I try to yank it away. “Smell what? All I smell is fire” I say and finally look him in the eyes. Ajax is shining through and he looks as if he is on full alert “We need to get out of here now! We all do” he yells. Suddenly I see his eyes go white and I have no idea what’s going on. Alex places himself in front of me and I hear a rumble and growl coming from his chest as he crouches down facing the forest. As I look into the woods I see a pair of eyes shining back at me. “Everyone run!” Alex shouts with a powerful aura coming off of him in waves. The wolf comes through to the clearing looking at Alex and I. All at once everyone starts screaming and running back towards the town. I turn back around and
