Chapter 8
SierraWell dinner was a total shit show. As soon as Alex leaves the table I instantly feel bad. I help mom clean up the table and do the dishes. She scolds me for being less than a gracious host and tells me to go an apologize to Alex before I head to bed for the night. As soon as the door swings open I see him standing there shirtless. His pants hanging off his hips in the most seductive way. My mouth goes dry as I take him in. Suddenly he clears his throat and I’m embarrassed that I was caught ogling him.“See something you like” he saysI don’t know what I was thinking inviting him to the bonfire, but I felt bad and its going to be a fun time. He seemed wary about going, but hopefully he says yes.I head back towards my room when I see Dave rummaging through the fridge for the leftover lasagna. After his comment Dad made him leave without ever getting a plate of food.“Man, those werewolves are weird as hell aren’t they?” He practically whispers“Oh they’re not so bad. If you’re going to position yourself for council tomorrow you better get used to them. Have you thought at all about what you’re going to say in front of the town to get nominations?” I ask him“Nah, just thought I’d wing it. You know me” he smiles shoving a forkful of cold lasagna in his mouth and practically moaning at the first bite. “Man, mom makes a mean lasagna doesn’t she?”~The next morning flew by in a flash. Before I knew it Alyssa was over at my house helping me get ready for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. She insisted I wear this short blue dress that would bring out my eyes. She always dresses to impress and since her and Jace are broken up yet again she’s on the rebound and will be on the hunt at the bonfire tonight. Why I don’t know, it’s not as if we don’t know every single guy in town, but I’ll always be her eternal wing woman, always and forever.“You really don’t think this dress is too short?” I ask her.“Girl you look hot as hell in that dress. Now we just need to do your makeup and hair. Come and sit and let me work my magic” she says excitedlyAlyssa has always had a way with hair and makeup and with the wave her hand my hair pulls itself into a nice up-do with some strands falling to complement my face. The makeup appears on my face, helping to make my blue eyes pop.“Well that was exhausting” she says as she flops onto my bed.I turn around in my chair and look at her. “Imagine if you had to actually do it without magic how much harder it would be” I giggled.Just then I heard someone clearing their throat from my doorway and I look up to see Alex standing there. Alyssa looks over with her jaw practically on the floor.“Uh hi” I said to him shylyI take in his attire. I guess his dad was making him dress up a little for the occasion. He was wearing black slacks hanging off his hips in the way that they do and a nice crisp white tailored shirt with the sleeves rolled up on his forearms. It was a nice, but not too casual outfit that made him look even more attractive than before.“Hi” he replied. “I just wanted to say I thought about the bonfire and I thought it might be fun so if the invitation still stands…”Before I could even answer Alyssa jumps up from my bed. “You must be Alex, Alpha Leo’s son. I’m Alyssa nice to meet you” and she extends her hand.“Of course the offer still stands right Si?” She nods my way“Yea of course. We’ll wait for you by the stage and we can all go together” I say“Perfect see you ladies there” he says and gives the biggest smile. I notice his eyes and Ajax must be saying something to him. He quickly notices and turns to leave. I stare at the doorway after he’s long gone.Alyssa breaks me from my daydream, “Uh earth to Sierra! You are totally into him!”“Am not!”“Are too!” I throw one of the pillows at her“Whatever” I say as I roll my eyes at her.“Just be safe and get it girl!!” She laughs at me“No one is getting anything I was just being a good hostess” I said smiling sweetly, but with a hint of sarcasm.“Oh good hostess my ass you want to tap that. I don’t blame ya the boy is fine” she said, making me feel a bit possessive. Jeeze what has gotten into me! I don’t even know him!Tonight should definitely be interesting to say the least. Hopefully no one minds that he comes and crashes our bonfire. Not all witches and wizards are ok with the werewolves so we will just have to tread lightly.Chapter 9Sierra It was finally time to leave the house for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. Alyssa and I made our way to the main living room where everyone was waiting. “Aw you look beautiful darling”, my mom says I look down at my feet, embarrassed. “Uh thanks mom.” I look up and see Alex staring at me and I feel heat pool between my legs. What the hell is wrong with me. This guy is unwinding me with just a look. I need to get it together. Just then the image of him shirtless from last night flashes through my mind and I flush a deep shade of pink. I can see the flash in his eyes as he brings his tongue to lick his lower lip as if he wants to devour me. Dad speaks up breaking us from our little trance. “Feel free to follow us in your car. I know you’re not entirely familiar to our town just yet” he says warmly We head out to the east side of town that has been set up with a stage and outdoor tents. When an elder retires the town goes all out. When we arrive there are platters of food f
Chapter 10 SierraSeriously he was going to scoff at witches? I know we weren’t all friendly but now I know how he truly feels about us. He thinks he’s above us because he’s a werewolf and the future alpha. You have to be shitting me. “Do you smell that” he says grabbing my arm as I try to yank it away. “Smell what? All I smell is fire” I say and finally look him in the eyes. Ajax is shining through and he looks as if he is on full alert “We need to get out of here now! We all do” he yells. Suddenly I see his eyes go white and I have no idea what’s going on. Alex places himself in front of me and I hear a rumble and growl coming from his chest as he crouches down facing the forest. As I look into the woods I see a pair of eyes shining back at me. “Everyone run!” Alex shouts with a powerful aura coming off of him in waves. The wolf comes through to the clearing looking at Alex and I. All at once everyone starts screaming and running back towards the town. I turn back around and
Chapter 11“You did WHAT?!?” My dad yells at me in the hall right outside the hospital room that Alex and Alpha Leo are currently in. “His leg was broken in several places and it looked like he severed an artery what did you want me to do dad just let him bleed to death before we got him to the hospital”“Look you did a great and brave thing tonight but you could’ve killed yourself using that much magic. I’m honestly surprised you’re even standing here and not unconscious out in the woods” “Surprisingly, Dad, I feel ok. A little weak, but I am craving some chocolate, you wouldn’t happen to have any in your office” “What? Chocolate, maybe we should take you into an exam room and get you checked out just to be sure”“Really Dad, I’m fine go check on Alex. I think I’ll head home” “Not so fast young lady you’re going to come in there with me. Let’s go, NOW” Dad knocks lightly on the door and enters the room where it looks like Alpha Leo and Alex are in deep conversation. “Well your
Chapter 12 Sierra All night I couldn’t sleep, and found myself tossing and turning in bed. Using that much magic should have completely drained me to the point where I should be unconscious right now, but for some reason I’m more awake then ever. I kept playing over and over in my head what happened. Why were there even rogues in the woods? How did they get past the protection spell? Alex obviously was protecting me, but why? I guess part of the treaty is to protect the town. Is that the only reason he jumped in front of me? My mind continues racing and reliving everything that happened and all the possible alternative outcomes had Alex and Alpha Leo not been there. I obviously couldn’t just let him die. Would we have made it back to the town hospital in time? Maybe. Even now thinking about losing him is making my chest ache. I seriously can’t be feeling this way I barely even know him! For some reason I feel this strong magnetic pull towards him. I’ve never felt this way about anyo
Chapter 13 Alex “So you and my baby sister huh?” Dave looks at me. “Look it’s not like…” He stops me mid-sentence and puts his hand up. “You know I have to give you the big brother ‘don’t you dare break her heart speech’ don’t you? Although I’m pretty sure she can handle herself, I wouldn’t be her big brother without at least mildly threatening you” Dave says, smiling at me. “Well I give you credit for threatening a werewolf especially an Alpha at that” I laugh his way. “You really don’t give us enough credit do you? From what I hear you needed her more last night than she needed you, but don’t worry I won’t go blabbing to your pack about how a witch just happened to save your life” Dave smiles warmly, clearly teasing me. “Believe me I am very grateful for what your sister did for me last night, I just wish I could repay the favor.” “I’m sure you’ll think of something” Dave says as he makes his way back towards his bedroom. “Hey Dave, wait a second, do you think the elders w
Sierra Once Alex left on Sunday I finally felt like I could breathe again. I definitely needed the clarity and the distance from him. I find myself replaying every word, and every look and realize how ridiculous I was being. He was a stranger and I was probably never going to see him again. I threw myself into my school work for the entire day on Sunday, welcoming the distraction so that I would not think of him. I was typing up my English essay listening to music in my headphones when I noticed my mom standing in the doorway to my room. I pulled my earbuds out queuing her to talk, but she just stood there looking at me. “Mom…. You ok?” I asked her with a quizzical look on my face. “Sierra” she said sighing and moving to sit on the edge of my bed. “I am so very proud of you for what you did yesterday, but I am also so very mad at you” she said. “Look, mom you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine, and I certainly couldn’t stand by and do nothing” I said shrugging it off. “I k
Chapter 15 AlexIt wasn’t until Friday morning that Elder Scott made his way over to pack lands. If I was going to have him check the border I wanted to make sure it was done before the start of our fall festival, especially with Sierra and Alyssa visiting. I met him at a local park on the very edge of the pack lands and we would work our way all the way along the border. “Good morning Alex”, Elder Scott said. He was dressed very differently than the last time I saw him. He looked so much younger and carefree dressed in basketball shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers. He must’ve noticed me taking in his attire because he said, “Well I wasn’t going to go walking through the woods with slacks on now was I?” I chuckled. “I guess not” I replied.“Well we might as well get started, lead the way Alex” “You know, I didn’t realize that magic spells just fade away or become weaker” I questioned him. “Well the original spell was put on these lands over ten years ago by Elder Wynn himself. I do
Chapter 1Sierra Monday Another wonderful Monday morning getting ready for the first day of my senior year. It seems bittersweet to be starting my last year of high school. I hadn’t put much thought into what I was going to do after graduation, but one thing was for certain, I was getting the hell out of this small town. I want to see the world, experience what life could be like outside the walls and boundaries of this town and my family. I want to experience culture, and music, and food, and everything that comes with it. The places on my bucket list are endless. Unfortunately it is crazy expensive to travel, but I have been working since junior high to save up enough money to do some traveling after graduation. My family has always isolated themselves in this small town. They wanted to live some place that they could feel free to practice their magic. I should mention that we are definitely not your typical family, but growing up in a magical family has its pros and cons. Mom alw
