Chapter 6

Sierra

I walked as quickly as I could down the hall as to not seem suspicious. I walked across the main living area quickly glancing at my dad engrossed in conversation with Alpha Leo, mom, and Dave. I slip past them unnoticed and make my way to my room on the other side of the house. I quickly shut the door to my bedroom and put my back up against the door. I was breathing heavy and felt slightly light headed.

What the hell was that?!?

Was he trying to flirt with me? Seriously? I mean the boy is absolutely gorgeous. Alyssa wasn’t joking. He had to be at least as tall as his dad if not taller. He had on a simple Van Halen t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but even through his clothing I could tell he was pure muscle. I wonder what he looked like under all those clothes.

I scolded myself, what the hell is wrong with me? I’ve never thought about a guy like this before I’ve always just been so focused on school, and the guys in my town are so immature and annoying. There was just something about Alex though, something different. Maybe it was that alpha aura I’ve read and heard all about. Yea, that had to be it! It was just playing tricks with my mind.

My phone buzzed in my back pocket and it was a text from my mom letting me know that dinner was ready. I took a few deep breaths and convinced myself I wouldn’t let him get to me. Before I walked out of my bedroom I ran over to my bathroom and threw on a little eyeliner and some mascara and I changed my t shirt to something a little low cut that showed off my cleavage. I mean hey, at least I could flaunt what I did have. If he wanted to flirt, then I could too. I changed out of my jeans and chose some tight black leggings that went perfectly with my t shirt. Honestly, even if he wasn’t here I would’ve changed out of my work clothes anyway, but I definitely put a little more effort in than usual.

I made my way down the hallway into the main living area and everyone was already seated at our large dining table waiting for me. “Sorry about that”, I announce as I took my usual seat next to my dad. As I sat down I saw Alex’s eyes dart from mine to my chest back to my eyes. He obviously noticed my change in wardrobe. I felt smugly satisfied, and better now that I know I’m having the same effect on him as he is on me.

As we all started to settle in to eat mom started asking what beverages everyone would like when I heard a sudden gasp from across the table. I look at Alex who looks like he’s in total and utter shock. I look over to the floating tray of lasagna, landing itself into the middle of the table.

“Sorry” my mother announced. “Have I frightened you? It’s so normal for us to use magic around our household for everyday things I didn’t even think” she says.

Alex clears his throat “No ma’am you didn’t scare me I’ve just never seen anything like that in person that’s all”.

Dave and I exchange glances across the table and start giggling when my mom starts staring, shooting daggers in our direction to make us quiet. Alex does not seem amused and is definitely embarrassed by his surprise.

“Look, I’m sure there’s a lot we can learn from each other. I’ve never even seen a wolf in person so if you were to shift right now I’m sure we’d all be in shock” I say nonchalantly trying to break the tension. I looked up at him and saw his eyes shimmering gold and it took me completely by surprise.

“By the way what’s with the freaky eyes” I attempted to say calmly.

My mom clears her throat. “Sierra..” She begins. I cut her off “I’m sorry I didn’t mean it like that I’m just saying there’s so many differences between us and a lot we can learn from each other” I say sweetly and put my head down looking at my empty plate, completely embarrassed by my outburst.

Dave laughs and says “Yea like how do you guys deal with the ticks and fleas they must be murder”. Just as the words leave his mouth my dad slaps him in the back of his head. I fight so hard to stifle a giggle.

“I apologize for my son’s rude behavior he will be excusing himself from the table now” dad announces.

“Aw, dad c’mon I didn’t mean it I was just joking”

Dad just stares at him until he gets up and removes himself from the table

“Sierra is right there is a lot we can learn from each other. There’s a lot of misconceptions and myths from both sides maybe this can be a great start to integrating more” Alpha Leo says nonchalantly.

“Perhaps..” my mom says “either way please dig in this lasagna isn’t going to finish itself” she smiles sweetly.

I stood up and leaned over the table to put some lasagna on my plate as I could feel Alex’s eyes on me.

“I plan to learn much this weekend thank you for taking me into your home” Alex said, clearly directing his complements towards my parents. With all of our plates full, we dug into our lasagna.

“Mmmmm” he said practically moaning. “This lasagna is amazing” he said licking his lips. At that moment I wondered what his lips felt like if they were soft and tasted sweet. All of a sudden I hear my dad clear his throat. “Uh sorry what was that dad” crap I was caught daydreaming about Alex of all things. I gave myself a mental scolding what the hell is wrong with me!

“She’s always been quite a dreamer, my Sierra” Dad said. Everyone at the table chuckled. “I was just saying how you’re looking forward to graduation” Dad announced to the table.

“Oh, yea what do you plan to do after graduation?” Alpha Leo asked.

“Get the hell out of this small town” I said way too quickly. Alex almost choked on his water across the table from me.

Mom started in “Sierra don’t even…” Alpha Leo cut her off “That’s ok Alex says the same thing all the time. I guess our little piece of the world isn’t big enough for them.”

I looked at Alex as he looked at me. We were the same I guess, in at least one way.
