Chapter 6
SierraI walked as quickly as I could down the hall as to not seem suspicious. I walked across the main living area quickly glancing at my dad engrossed in conversation with Alpha Leo, mom, and Dave. I slip past them unnoticed and make my way to my room on the other side of the house. I quickly shut the door to my bedroom and put my back up against the door. I was breathing heavy and felt slightly light headed. What the hell was that?!?Was he trying to flirt with me? Seriously? I mean the boy is absolutely gorgeous. Alyssa wasn’t joking. He had to be at least as tall as his dad if not taller. He had on a simple Van Halen t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but even through his clothing I could tell he was pure muscle. I wonder what he looked like under all those clothes.I scolded myself, what the hell is wrong with me? I’ve never thought about a guy like this before I’ve always just been so focused on school, and the guys in my town are so immature and annoying. There was just something about Alex though, something different. Maybe it was that alpha aura I’ve read and heard all about. Yea, that had to be it! It was just playing tricks with my mind.My phone buzzed in my back pocket and it was a text from my mom letting me know that dinner was ready. I took a few deep breaths and convinced myself I wouldn’t let him get to me. Before I walked out of my bedroom I ran over to my bathroom and threw on a little eyeliner and some mascara and I changed my t shirt to something a little low cut that showed off my cleavage. I mean hey, at least I could flaunt what I did have. If he wanted to flirt, then I could too. I changed out of my jeans and chose some tight black leggings that went perfectly with my t shirt. Honestly, even if he wasn’t here I would’ve changed out of my work clothes anyway, but I definitely put a little more effort in than usual.I made my way down the hallway into the main living area and everyone was already seated at our large dining table waiting for me. “Sorry about that”, I announce as I took my usual seat next to my dad. As I sat down I saw Alex’s eyes dart from mine to my chest back to my eyes. He obviously noticed my change in wardrobe. I felt smugly satisfied, and better now that I know I’m having the same effect on him as he is on me.As we all started to settle in to eat mom started asking what beverages everyone would like when I heard a sudden gasp from across the table. I look at Alex who looks like he’s in total and utter shock. I look over to the floating tray of lasagna, landing itself into the middle of the table.“Sorry” my mother announced. “Have I frightened you? It’s so normal for us to use magic around our household for everyday things I didn’t even think” she says.Alex clears his throat “No ma’am you didn’t scare me I’ve just never seen anything like that in person that’s all”.Dave and I exchange glances across the table and start giggling when my mom starts staring, shooting daggers in our direction to make us quiet. Alex does not seem amused and is definitely embarrassed by his surprise.“Look, I’m sure there’s a lot we can learn from each other. I’ve never even seen a wolf in person so if you were to shift right now I’m sure we’d all be in shock” I say nonchalantly trying to break the tension. I looked up at him and saw his eyes shimmering gold and it took me completely by surprise.“By the way what’s with the freaky eyes” I attempted to say calmly. My mom clears her throat. “Sierra..” She begins. I cut her off “I’m sorry I didn’t mean it like that I’m just saying there’s so many differences between us and a lot we can learn from each other” I say sweetly and put my head down looking at my empty plate, completely embarrassed by my outburst.Dave laughs and says “Yea like how do you guys deal with the ticks and fleas they must be murder”. Just as the words leave his mouth my dad slaps him in the back of his head. I fight so hard to stifle a giggle.“I apologize for my son’s rude behavior he will be excusing himself from the table now” dad announces.“Aw, dad c’mon I didn’t mean it I was just joking”Dad just stares at him until he gets up and removes himself from the table“Sierra is right there is a lot we can learn from each other. There’s a lot of misconceptions and myths from both sides maybe this can be a great start to integrating more” Alpha Leo says nonchalantly.“Perhaps..” my mom says “either way please dig in this lasagna isn’t going to finish itself” she smiles sweetly.I stood up and leaned over the table to put some lasagna on my plate as I could feel Alex’s eyes on me.“I plan to learn much this weekend thank you for taking me into your home” Alex said, clearly directing his complements towards my parents. With all of our plates full, we dug into our lasagna.“Mmmmm” he said practically moaning. “This lasagna is amazing” he said licking his lips. At that moment I wondered what his lips felt like if they were soft and tasted sweet. All of a sudden I hear my dad clear his throat. “Uh sorry what was that dad” crap I was caught daydreaming about Alex of all things. I gave myself a mental scolding what the hell is wrong with me!“She’s always been quite a dreamer, my Sierra” Dad said. Everyone at the table chuckled. “I was just saying how you’re looking forward to graduation” Dad announced to the table.“Oh, yea what do you plan to do after graduation?” Alpha Leo asked.“Get the hell out of this small town” I said way too quickly. Alex almost choked on his water across the table from me.Mom started in “Sierra don’t even…” Alpha Leo cut her off “That’s ok Alex says the same thing all the time. I guess our little piece of the world isn’t big enough for them.”I looked at Alex as he looked at me. We were the same I guess, in at least one way.Chapter 7Alex Needless when I saw the tray of lasagna aimlessly floating through the air it took me by surprise. Obviously I’m in a witch’s house why would something like that surprise me. I felt so embarrassed by my sudden outburst. I felt dad chuckle softly next to me. Everything up until this point had seemed so normal I almost forgot where I was. Normally Ajax and I are so in sync, attuned and aware of everything going on around us, but since Sierra walked into the dining room and sat down across from us wearing that little low cut shirt he has done nothing but pace back and forth in my head. ‘Dude, seriously what’s going on with you?’ I questioned him ‘I don’t know something about this girl has got me going nuts. The desire to claim her is overwhelming’ Ajax replied Suddenly I look over to her and she’s staring at me with so many questions burning in her eyes. It was an interesting dinner to say the least. I know they’re just as curious about my kind as I am about theirs.
Chapter 8Sierra Well dinner was a total shit show. As soon as Alex leaves the table I instantly feel bad. I help mom clean up the table and do the dishes. She scolds me for being less than a gracious host and tells me to go an apologize to Alex before I head to bed for the night. As soon as the door swings open I see him standing there shirtless. His pants hanging off his hips in the most seductive way. My mouth goes dry as I take him in. Suddenly he clears his throat and I’m embarrassed that I was caught ogling him. “See something you like” he says I don’t know what I was thinking inviting him to the bonfire, but I felt bad and its going to be a fun time. He seemed wary about going, but hopefully he says yes. I head back towards my room when I see Dave rummaging through the fridge for the leftover lasagna. After his comment Dad made him leave without ever getting a plate of food. “Man, those werewolves are weird as hell aren’t they?” He practically whispers “Oh they’re not so
Chapter 9Sierra It was finally time to leave the house for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. Alyssa and I made our way to the main living room where everyone was waiting. “Aw you look beautiful darling”, my mom says I look down at my feet, embarrassed. “Uh thanks mom.” I look up and see Alex staring at me and I feel heat pool between my legs. What the hell is wrong with me. This guy is unwinding me with just a look. I need to get it together. Just then the image of him shirtless from last night flashes through my mind and I flush a deep shade of pink. I can see the flash in his eyes as he brings his tongue to lick his lower lip as if he wants to devour me. Dad speaks up breaking us from our little trance. “Feel free to follow us in your car. I know you’re not entirely familiar to our town just yet” he says warmly We head out to the east side of town that has been set up with a stage and outdoor tents. When an elder retires the town goes all out. When we arrive there are platters of food f
Chapter 10 SierraSeriously he was going to scoff at witches? I know we weren’t all friendly but now I know how he truly feels about us. He thinks he’s above us because he’s a werewolf and the future alpha. You have to be shitting me. “Do you smell that” he says grabbing my arm as I try to yank it away. “Smell what? All I smell is fire” I say and finally look him in the eyes. Ajax is shining through and he looks as if he is on full alert “We need to get out of here now! We all do” he yells. Suddenly I see his eyes go white and I have no idea what’s going on. Alex places himself in front of me and I hear a rumble and growl coming from his chest as he crouches down facing the forest. As I look into the woods I see a pair of eyes shining back at me. “Everyone run!” Alex shouts with a powerful aura coming off of him in waves. The wolf comes through to the clearing looking at Alex and I. All at once everyone starts screaming and running back towards the town. I turn back around and
Chapter 11“You did WHAT?!?” My dad yells at me in the hall right outside the hospital room that Alex and Alpha Leo are currently in. “His leg was broken in several places and it looked like he severed an artery what did you want me to do dad just let him bleed to death before we got him to the hospital”“Look you did a great and brave thing tonight but you could’ve killed yourself using that much magic. I’m honestly surprised you’re even standing here and not unconscious out in the woods” “Surprisingly, Dad, I feel ok. A little weak, but I am craving some chocolate, you wouldn’t happen to have any in your office” “What? Chocolate, maybe we should take you into an exam room and get you checked out just to be sure”“Really Dad, I’m fine go check on Alex. I think I’ll head home” “Not so fast young lady you’re going to come in there with me. Let’s go, NOW” Dad knocks lightly on the door and enters the room where it looks like Alpha Leo and Alex are in deep conversation. “Well your
Chapter 12 Sierra All night I couldn’t sleep, and found myself tossing and turning in bed. Using that much magic should have completely drained me to the point where I should be unconscious right now, but for some reason I’m more awake then ever. I kept playing over and over in my head what happened. Why were there even rogues in the woods? How did they get past the protection spell? Alex obviously was protecting me, but why? I guess part of the treaty is to protect the town. Is that the only reason he jumped in front of me? My mind continues racing and reliving everything that happened and all the possible alternative outcomes had Alex and Alpha Leo not been there. I obviously couldn’t just let him die. Would we have made it back to the town hospital in time? Maybe. Even now thinking about losing him is making my chest ache. I seriously can’t be feeling this way I barely even know him! For some reason I feel this strong magnetic pull towards him. I’ve never felt this way about anyo
Chapter 13 Alex “So you and my baby sister huh?” Dave looks at me. “Look it’s not like…” He stops me mid-sentence and puts his hand up. “You know I have to give you the big brother ‘don’t you dare break her heart speech’ don’t you? Although I’m pretty sure she can handle herself, I wouldn’t be her big brother without at least mildly threatening you” Dave says, smiling at me. “Well I give you credit for threatening a werewolf especially an Alpha at that” I laugh his way. “You really don’t give us enough credit do you? From what I hear you needed her more last night than she needed you, but don’t worry I won’t go blabbing to your pack about how a witch just happened to save your life” Dave smiles warmly, clearly teasing me. “Believe me I am very grateful for what your sister did for me last night, I just wish I could repay the favor.” “I’m sure you’ll think of something” Dave says as he makes his way back towards his bedroom. “Hey Dave, wait a second, do you think the elders w
Sierra Once Alex left on Sunday I finally felt like I could breathe again. I definitely needed the clarity and the distance from him. I find myself replaying every word, and every look and realize how ridiculous I was being. He was a stranger and I was probably never going to see him again. I threw myself into my school work for the entire day on Sunday, welcoming the distraction so that I would not think of him. I was typing up my English essay listening to music in my headphones when I noticed my mom standing in the doorway to my room. I pulled my earbuds out queuing her to talk, but she just stood there looking at me. “Mom…. You ok?” I asked her with a quizzical look on my face. “Sierra” she said sighing and moving to sit on the edge of my bed. “I am so very proud of you for what you did yesterday, but I am also so very mad at you” she said. “Look, mom you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine, and I certainly couldn’t stand by and do nothing” I said shrugging it off. “I k
