Chapter 8

Kyrie helped me into one of the police cruisers. Through the window, I could see Jonathan and his men being pushed into another cruiser.

The car that I sat in took a U-turn so that it could start speeding toward the hospital.

At first, I'd needed to have my statement taken. But Kyrie insisted on taking me to the hospital first. The policeman, who was in the cruiser with us, shot me a few odd looks. Then, he told the driver to take us to the hospital.

But how had Kyrie found out about my kidnapping?

I asked her that question when I was lying on the hospital bed.

"I realized that you never returned to the office after leaving for quite some time. Lily, the receptionist at the front desk, told me that she saw you heading toward the café across from the company.

"But when I arrived there, all I saw were broken shards of a coffee cup. After that, a barista in the café mentioned that she witnessed someone dragging you into a vehicle."
