CHAPTER 4

Mila's mind was determined to find out the truth and clear her father's name.

“No. I won't accept the accusations made against him.” I will make sure the truth finds its way to the surface, no matter how hard it's buried. In the end, the truth will be revealed , no matter how long it takes me.

I have to be strong to uncover the truth behind my father's tarnished reputation. Mila resolved within herself after crying throughout the night.

The days following after her father's execution, and Arnold’s betrayal and rejection were worse for Mila. The work became so tasking and busy for her. She was ordered to do all sorts of odd jobs like; cleaning, mopping the floor, washing clothes, and other demeaning work in the pack as an Omega.

The pack enforcer told her it was part of her punishment for her father's betrayal of the pack, and strictly warned her not to go anywhere beyond the pack house and the cottage where she lives.

Mila was cleaning near the pack office when one of the guards came and dragged her out forcefully. Her skin injured at the manner in which he dragged her out.

“I warned you that the Alpha forbade you to see him and his Luna, what are you doing cleaning close to his office?” He shouted at Mila with an angry tone.

“I was asked by the other guard to clean the back of the office. He said Alpha Albert hardly comes around at this time.”

“Make sure they never get to see you whenever you are doing your task here because if you are caught, I will deny knowing your presence,” he warned her before leaving.

Mila breathed out in relief. Her new fate as the lowest member of the pack is very frustrating. She is practically a slave to every member of the pack with the chores she is asked to do daily.

The most painful aspect of these all is the constant taunting from Amanda whenever she is on her daily walk around the pack with Arnold.

Mila frowned in anger when she remembered how Amanda poured dirty mopping water on her, for refusing to bow to her, as the future Luna of the pack and Arnold's mate.

What infuriates Mila the most is Arnold's silence in the face of all these. He watches Amanda make a mockery of her daily for her pleasure, without batting an eyelid.

“Well, she has accepted her new fate of not having friends anymore. She is all alone. Her plan now is on how to get evidence needed to clear her father's name and prove his innocence.”

*****************

The next morning, while cleaning the back of the pack house, Mila noticed the guards were not paying much attention to her as they normally do, so she secretly hid and ran to her father's house in search of some clues or evidence in his bedroom and study room.

Unknown to her, Amanda saw her as she was sneaking into the house.

Mila hurriedly searched around and found some documents which she hid inside her clothes and sneaked out back to the pack house to continue her cleaning chores.

She breathed out in relief. A wave of happiness swept through her at the successful outcome of her heist.

When she got back to her cottage at night, she read through the words in the document she found. Mila was shocked by the information therein and needed to read more to have concrete evidence of who was against her father and who had to set him up. She needed more evidence to prove her father's innocence.

The next morning, while cleaning the back of the pack house, she noticed the guard's inattentiveness to her and sneaked out again to her old house.

Mila was busy looking for more evidence when she heard the sound of footsteps in the house. She hid herself in a hidden cubicle in her father's study room, her body shaking uncontrollably from fear.

"I think we should check everywhere, I know she is hiding somewhere." Amanda's voice rang out.

The guards immediately responded to Amanda's words as they moved around searching everywhere.

After a while, Mila heard the footsteps of the guards leaving one after another, her heart began to beat wildly and uncontrollably. After everyone had gone, the surroundings fell silent all of a sudden.

She hastily opened the door and crawled out of the cubicle, and saw three pairs of feet.Mila raised her head and saw three angry faces glaring at her furiously.

Amanda giggled playfully, "Finally you are caught, Mila."

A chill ran down her spine, Mila was shivering in fear and trembling visibly that she had been caught red-handed by Alpha Albert, as he glared at her angrily.

“You ingrate, after all I have done for you despite your father's betrayal by keeping you alive, you still have the guts to disobey my orders!” Alpha Albert yelled at her.

Mila trembled more at the sound of his voice and bowed her head in shame, apologizing to him.

“I am sorry, My Alpha. I was only looking for evidence to prove my father's innocence,” Mila pleaded with all sincerity in her voice and countenance.

“I wouldn't have believed it if not for Amanda who saw you sneaking here yesterday and informed me. “How dare you, Mila?” You are a disgrace to all werewolves, a disgrace to our pack, and destined to be a failure.”

“Please forgive me, Alpha, I meant no harm to you and the pack members,” Mila knelt with tears streaming down her eyes, pleading for him to spare her life.

“You forget I control every aspect of your existence. You are a pathetic being for a wolf. For disobeying my commands and being caught in the act of stealing vital and sensitive materials from the pack, I, Alpha Albert Colt, hereby denounce you, Mila Shaw. You cease to be a member of Dusk

fire Pack from today.” He pronounced with his Alpha’s authority.
