CHAPTER 3

Mila stumbled back to the cottage, her heart torn with pain as she curled up on the floor crying loudly, unable to comprehend why her life had taken a sad turn overnight.

She cried all night at the false accusations of her dad and Arnold's betrayal. The words of Arnold's rejection kept echoing in her ears.

"Moon goddess, why me?” she sobbed loudly, knowing that her father would be executed in the morning and she couldn't do anything about it.

She cried throughout the night before she became exhausted and fell asleep on the cold ground.

**************

The next morning Mila stood watching with the crowd as her father was being beaten and dragged out in the open to be executed.

It was unbelievable to her how her life changed drastically in a day. She was the most admired wolf because of her beauty and status in the pack, especially after the mating ball ceremony when she discovers the Alpha’s son and her childhood friend is her mate. Now she has nothing to be admired for. Her father is on the verge of being executed, and her mate rejected and cheated on her. The moon goddess has abandoned her to her evil fate.

“Get the stone!” The voice of a man cut her thought short.“His time has come and he must be dead.” Alpha Albert said to the enforcers.

What could she do? She couldn't even confront these men, Not in this world or the next to come. She is weak and powerless.Tears rolled down her face, dropping down to the ground.

The man who birthed her and made her his favorite person was hung on the execution stick, and everyone in the pack was there and waiting for the guards to set him ablaze.

“I didn't do it!” Her father suddenly screamed. “Let me come down from this place and I will be gone from the pack and your lives, forever.” His anguished cry for help was heard.

Mila moved from where she was standing and rushed to the front of her father. She held onto him crying at the top of her voice seeing him tied up and beaten.

“Did you do it?”

“No!” He shouted in a bid to make her hear his voice.

“I don't know what I did. The Alpha accused me of something I didn't do and here I am.” He cried, struggling to set himself free from the grip of the stick.

“Ask them to let me go, Mila. We will be gone from the pack as soon as that is done.”

With teary eyes, Mila looked around and jumped to her feet. “I shall be back, Father!” She yelled, rushing to the Alpha's chamber ignoring the guards warning.

Who knows?

The older man could do something about the situation, even though it was he who put her father in that spot.

“My lord!” She pushed her way into his chamber. “Father is innocent, please. Let him go and we will be gone from this pack.” She knelt and pleaded, wishing he would do something about it.

“I gave an order to the guard that I don't want to see your face again. Alpha Albert said and got on his feet. “Why are these men yet to do what they were asked to do?” He walked in the direction of the door and out of the room, stopping at the entrance of the door.

“Why are you yet to do as I commanded?” Alpha Albert yelled at the men. “Burn him already!”

“You cannot cut short my life because I refuse to do your bidding, Albert!” Mila's father yelled back at him.

The attention of all the wolves rested on him, and  Alpha  Albert stopped in his tracks, acting dumb. “I have done nothing to you, and yet you betrayed me and the pack you swore to protect”

“You know I am speaking the truth, you set me up because I refuse to support your evil plan?”  Mila's father yelled back at Alpha Albert in anger.

Alpha Albert walked closer to the stick, throwing spittle from his mouth at him.

“How dare you talk to me in that manner? I should have known you would bite the hand that once fed you.”

Even in pain, her Father laughed. His gaze went to Mila who was on the floor, wailing and the sight of this caused him pain.

“Go ahead!”

“No!” Mila shouted and got on her feet.

“My lord, you can't do this to us.” She shouted at the top of her voice, rushing to the spot where Alpha Albert was standing, holding him by the edge of the garment he was wearing. “Let my Father go, please. I am pleading with you!”

Alpha Albert kicked her away from him and looked at the men who waited for his instruction. “Do what you must do.”

Immediately, flames were set up and thrown at her father who screamed and said words that could not be heard.

Some women wailed and children cried, rushing out of the scene. Mila yelled at the top of her voice, screaming out her lungs with a wish that she could do something to stop the fire.

“But what could she do?” The men who set her dad ablaze walked away, causing Mila to look at them in pain.

“What have you done?” She asked no one in particular, seeing the burnt remnant of her father, a man she loved so dearly.

“How could you do this to him?”

The place was empty, save her and the burnt body of her father. “What did he do to deserve this?”As far as she knows, he had done nothing but serve the Alpha diligently.

Why did he have to be treated in this manner? She looked around her, hoping everything was a dream that she would wake up from the next day.

This was no dream, she got on her feet and fell to the floor again, wishing she was burnt alongside her father.
