I get out of the car hastily, slamming the door shut angrily the moment it rolls to a stop in front of the house, which was strangely lit considering it wasn't even night time. I mumble a response to the housekeeper's greetings, barely holding in my anger. I stomp into my room and throw myself down on my bed face first. Roman had refused to listen to anything I had to say. Instead, he had ordered the driver to take me home and when I physically refused to, he had lifted me like a sack of potatoes throwing me over his shoulders, and proceeding to deposit me in the back of the car. He didn't come home with me like we've been doing for the past week. Home. This place was definitely beginning to grow on me. When it's time for dinner, I expect to see Roman in the dining room, but he is strangely absent. Due to the emptiness, I end up telling one of the maids to take the food up to my room for me. I eat on the bed, in a totally sour and sullen mood. I contemplate calling him a good nu
I kick my chair back angrily, standing up so suddenly I feel my gaze go hazy for some minutes. “Calm down, son. Let's sit and talk for some minutes.” My Father says in a patronising tone. “You already made me employ her. I would have nothing to do with her unless it is work-related.” I say with a clenched jaw. “Is this how you welcome me, Mr Montgomery?” The man who appears to be Lily's father asks with a scoff. I feel an eerie calmness wash all over me as I stalk towards him. I see the uncertainty and fear in his eyes as he takes a step backwards. “I'm sorry— we will just———” Lily starts to say, stepping in between me and her father. I push her away harshly, not caring that she might bump into the strong wooden table. I take the two long steps that bring me closer to him, and with a hand on his neck, I slam him into the wall, lifting him up. “What the fuck did you just say?” I ask in a deceptively calm tone. In his defence he didn't really say anything insulting to me but fu
“Are you sure you're good?” Ashley asks, stopping in between her speech to ensure I'm good. I force a smile to my lips as I respond. “Why won't I be?” It was in no way Ashley's fault that I was in danger, so I refuse to take it out on her even if it means faking a smile or faking my interest in her discussions. “Huh. I can swear you look pale.” Ashley says, giving me a look that clearly shows she probably does not believe me. “Wait…… are these the early signs of your pregnancy? Dang it! You should have taken that pill when I offered it to you.” Ashley says, slamming her fist into her palms. “What the hell are you talking about?” I ask with a heavy frown of annoyance on my face. “Wait…. Are your breasts tender? Do you now have the morning sickness? When was your last flow?” Ashley asks a series of questions, not leaving any room for me to respond. “I'm not pregnant!” I say a little too loudly, trying to burst through her iron shield bubble of delusion. “Oh my God! There's going
“But… But I didn't do anything wrong.” I say with my heart in my throat. “Don't give me that, princess. You know exactly what you did. Do you want me to list them out for you.” Roman says with a deceptively calm look on his face. I shake my head and gulp loudly. Subconsciously, I knew there would be repercussions for what I did, I just refused to accept it. There was no use stalling now. I move the duvet away from my body and step down gingerly from the bed. When the cold air hits my bare thighs, I regret taking off my hose, skirt, and shirt, exchanging them for a mid thigh simple nightwear. I stop about two feet away from him, with my eyes trained hardly on the ground. I hear Roman sigh heavily, the only sign of his exasperation. “Come closer, princess.” I take one more step towards him, not being physically capable of taking the last step. I let out a startled cry when Roman pulls me closer with a hand on my waist. I'm breathing heavily by the time he lets me stand on my own
“Why would he want to hurt me?” I ask as I scurry closer to Roman. Roman pulls me into him, placing my head on his chest. “I don't know, princess. Don't worry your pretty little head over all this, I promise to keep you safe, but you have to let me.” I heave a huge sigh of relief at his promise. I can at least accept that Roman makes me feel safe. But— could it be that his father is also the one behind the notes? ———————————ROMAN'S POV “Oh my gosh, we are late!” Aella says scrambling off the bed. I look at the little bedside clock and sigh heavily. “We are not late, princess. You are not going to work today.” I say, drinking in the marvellous sight that is her beautiful face. She looks like she is about to argue but a look flashes across her face and she chooses to remain silent. I'm pretty sure her near death experience of yesterday has a huge hand in her compliance. At that thought, I feel my hands clench tightly into a fist. I really do hope my father is not responsible f
Roman crashes his lips against mine, kissing me so ferociously, that I think I might faint from lack of air.“Ro—man?” I croak out when he finally lets me come up for air. “I told you to stay away from the east wing of the house, princess.” Roman says in an accusatory tone while laying his head on my shoulders. I inhale sharply, finally remembering the three rules he had listed to me the day he brought me here. “But— why?” I ask cautiously, not totally sure if asking about his reasons is acceptable. “Who owned these things?” I ask again, referring to the furniture that was covered with cloths. Roman sighs heavily and raises his eyes to mine. He looks like he's having a war within himself on whether to tell me or not, but when he finally looks at me with eyes shining with emotions, I know his desire to tell me the truth has outweighed his need not to. “It belonged to my mother.” Roman says, taking his hands off me and taking a step backwards and away from me. I don't know what pr
“You— you destroyed my work!” I say angrily. My voice only coming back to me after Roman steps into his office and closes the door. “Are you sure you know what you are saying, Aella?” Lily asks in a concerned tone. “How else did you know to make your own proposals? And don't give me that bullshit story you fed, Roman.” I say through gritted teeth. “Look, Aella, I do not want us to be enemies. How about we hang out later in the week? We could get to know each other and who knows, we might become best of friends.” Lily says with a tentative smile on her face. I stare at her for some time trying to see what her endgame was but I find nothing but sincerity in her expression. I almost feel bad for blaming her with no concrete evidence but then I remember that she is the only one aside from me who had access to this floor, so it had to be her who destroyed my files. “I'm not interested in being friends with you. Stop ruining my work and I might consider being civil with you.” I say in
“Why would you want to go with me?” I ask with a heavy frown on my face. “What part of I never want you out of my sight do you not understand?” Roman asks in an exasperated tone like he was shocked I didn't get his point even after stating it over and over again. I avert my eyes from his, refusing to admit that I actually feel warm all over at his insistence on keeping me within sight. I sigh heavily as I put a hand on my forehead. I was really out of touch with the feminist in me. “What if I said I didn't want to go? That I wanted to stay back on my own?” I ask just for the thrill of it, not because I believe the statements to be true. “I would drag you kicking and screaming into the plane.” Roman answers simply. I turn away from him to hide my smile. He hasn't changed after all and I can't just help but feel giddy at the thought. My phone rings from the desk and when I pick it up, I find it's Kate calling. I sigh heavily as I answer the call. Since Roman demanded I start liv
