I pick at my food, refusing to say a word to Roman nor have a taste of the food in front of me.“Do you want me to force-feed you, Princess?” Roman asks with a frown. I glare at him in anger as I stab my fork into the meatball, imagining it was his eyes. I must say, the thought of killing him with the fork has crossed my mind an unhealthy number of times. Roman pushes his chair back and stalks towards me as I force the meatball into my mouth. I'm not taking any chances with him because he just might do as he has said. I gulp the orange juice in front of me, hoping to divert his attention from my far from empty plate. “We are leaving tomorrow, Princess. Don't forget to pack your bags.” Roman says quietly, ignoring my attitude. I roll my eyes when he's not looking and plan to do the exact opposite of his orders. I relax a little when he leaves for his office. He places a kiss on my forehead on his way out. “Make sure you empty your plate, princess.” I manage to take a few more bi
“I'm sorry, the reservation cannot be changed.” The lady says with a polite smile on her face. “Let's go, princess. Nothing can be done about it.” Roman says with a smirk that grates on my nerves. “I don't want to share a room with you, Roman.” I say angrily, refusing to back down. “Too bad you have no other option.” Roman says in a mocking tone. “I would like to have another room.” I say, turning my back on him and facing the attendant. The lady looks hesitantly at Roman before turning back to me with the same polite smile on her face. “I'm sorry, we are fully booked for the remainder of the year.” “You really need to reevaluate your work ethics.” I say in a cold tone to the lady who looks away from me in what I presume is shame. “Let's go, princess.” Roman says, pulling me away from the lady. I allow him to lead me away because I know full well there was really nothing I could do to get myself out of this. Lily glares at me before turning her back on us and heading in the o
I struggle to keep afloat, fighting against the invisible hands of the water pulling me back down farther and farther into the pool. I try to hold my breath for a second longer but I find myself losing the battle as my lungs struggle for just one breath of air. I feel myself sink lower and lower into the pool. as I gulp in mouthfuls of water till I feel my lungs start to constrict. Just when I'm on the brink of losing consciousness, I feel a hand around my waist and I'm brought up to the surface. I cough and sputter water out of my nose and mouth. I couldn't get in enough air. The lady who brought me out of the water stays silent by my side, probably not knowing what to do. “Thank you for saving me.” I say the moment I get myself under control. “Why were you by the pool if you didn't know how to swim?” The lady asks in an annoyed tone. I look around me, searching for the phone that had brought me closer to the water but I don't find it anywhere. Could it have fallen into the wa
I lay very still on the bed, pretending to be asleep, but I almost falter when Roman gets into the bed and pulls me into him. He wraps his huge arms across my torso, practically chaining me to him. I breathe in deeply softening my body against his, so as not to alert him of my consciousness. “I'm sorry, princess.” Roman whispers into my hair before settling down beside me. What exactly was he sorry for? The past? Why won't anyone tell me anything? It was getting very exhausting. I don't have to wait too long though as the sound of Romans even breathing permeates the room, breaking the quiet peace. I remain still for some time before carefully rolling myself out from under his arms. I put a pillow in his arms to replace my figure just to be on the safe side. I get down from the bed and tiptoe to the door, almost groaning in pain when I find that the door is locked. I look around the room, wondering where Roman could have kept the key card. I eventually find it sitting prettily on
“Do you know him?” Ethan asks in a puzzled tone. “Apart from the fact that he was present in the meeting, I know nothing else about him.” I respond with a grimace. Ethan does not respond but rather goes about typing on the computer. “What are you doing?” I ask in confusion. “Copying the footage, of course.” Ethan responds with a scoff as though he could not believe that I was asking such a stupid question. “You want to show it to Roman.” I say to him as my blood runs cold at the thought. “The person behind this is very powerful, whoever he is. Do you think just a black and white camera footage stolen from the hotel room can indict him or bring him down?” Ethan asks, giving me a flat look. “So what are planning on doing with it?” I ask in a more confused tone. “Gathering evidence of course.” Ethan responds as he plugs in a flash into the computers USB port. “You are going to help me track this person down?” I ask in a hope filled voice. “I can't exactly let my newest partner
I hide the pictures under my bag as Roman ends his call and stalks back to me. I knew it wasn't safe there and if there was any way I could keep it away from Roman, I had to discard it. Immediately. I look at Ethan, and an idea pops into my head immediately. I know I can trust him to properly discard the pictures. I try to catch Ethan's eye for a few minutes but I'm unsuccessful as Ethan's focus is entirely on his laptop. I yawn widely and loudly in a last-ditch effort to get his attention and this time I'm successful only I also draw the attention of Roman. “Are you sleepy, princess?” Roman asks as he shuts down his laptop and tilts his body towards me. “Ummmmm, yeah a little.” I respond as my eyes flicker from his to Ethan who is staring quite intently at me now. “Let's head to the room then.” Roman says as he nods towards the back of the plane. “This plane has a room?” I ask in barely concealed awe. “Of course it does. Only the best for the Montgomery enterprise.” Roman say
“How soon can you find out about my past?” I ask Ethan angrily, as I fold my arms across my chest. “Why the urgency? Are you trying to decipher something or what?” Ethan asks with a teasing tilt of his brows. “No. I want to protect myself from making a terrible mistake.” I respond even when I know he wasn't truly asking for a response. “Those pictures were quite the test.” Ethan says humming appreciatively, interrupting my line of thoughts and drawing my attention to him. “Did you get rid of them?” I ask in a hopeful tone, happy that he had gotten the drift earlier on. I look discreetly behind me, careful to ensure that Roman does not listen in on our conversation. “No, Aella, I didn't. I kept them.” Ethan says giving me a look that I don't quite understand. “If anyone finds those pictures, Roman will strangle me and probably kill you!” I whisper yell at him. Why wouldn't he just get rid of them? “I'm keeping them, Aella. I have my reasons, and even though I can't tell you now
I need to see Ethan, but I don't know how much time I have left. Surely Roman must now be aware that I hadn't gone home like he said I should. If I were to call Ethan with my phone, Roman would surely find out I did so. “Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?” A menacing voice says from above my spot on the seat. “Lily???” I croak out when I get a good look at the person who was standing directly in front of my table. “Who else would it be? And why do you look like you would rather it be someone else?” Lily asks with a mocking expression as she lowers herself to the seat opposite mine. I take in huge breaths as I try to calm down my fast-beating heart. I must not let her know I suspected her of having a hand in my accident. I need to put up an act. And by God, it had to be Oscar-worthy. “What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be on leave or something?” I ask with an uninterested glare on my face. “Am I not allowed in the company I work for? And besides, it's only na
