Chapter 20

"Oh, you don't know your father?" I heard him laugh.

"Well, he's Thomas William." That's when my whole world stopped, and an image of the person I met at the grocery store flashed in my mind.

"He left you and your Mother alone, that's why I kept your Mom for a long time," he laughed loudly. "He dumped you because you're trash."

That's when bullets pierced my chest, and the pain was unbearable. I couldn't bring myself to look at him because what he said might be true.

"Your Mom knows everything. They keep in touch, but she didn't mention you to your own real Father," he laughed like a maniac. "Is it because you're trash, and your Mom doesn't really want you?" he added, but I felt frozen in place.

"Don't listen. Get out of there, Savannah."

Those words were painful enough to make me breathless. I forced myself to walk out of the building and saw Mom still crying there.

"Mom." I called her without any enthusiasm, which lifted her gaze.

"Is it true that you know my real Dad?" I asked firm
