“No, Ophelia. You can’t go,” Demitri told me with firm voice when I insisted that I should go fight with them.
“But—”
He shut me up by putting his index finger on my lips.
“No buts. Please, you are pregnant with our child for Pete’s sake. I don’t want to put you in danger. Stay here and wait for my return. We will be back shortly after we are done with that bastard Ren Lancaster,” he promised and muttered a curse. Utmost lividity was evident in his dark sea-green eyes at the mention of the man’s name.
Ren Lancaster is now the one who holds Frostville, a kingdom at the south near the werewolves’ kingdom. After raising rebellion and killing the king, he proclaimed himself as the new king. At that time, David was there and he protected the princess he was fond of. But with Ren’s dark magic, the people in Frostville were no match to him.
Ren has also mastered the power of manipulation and manipulated the princess to fight David. With the princess under evil influence, David couldn’t bring himself to fight back and hurt her. Ren had the opportunity to seal David’s soul with his soul sealing sword—the sword that could put even the most powerful person into endless sleep. Though his body will remain unscathed as if he’s alive, he will never be awakened. Ren purposely did that because he wanted it to remain a proof of his dominance, a reminder of what he’s capable of. That’s why he put David’s coffin in the heart of sacred mountain where no one could enter.
We were so mad when we found it, especially King Arthur, Demitri and Martin. The Queen fell ill and has been locking herself for days. Demitri planned to slaughter Ren and wipe out all his followers and traces, but the day before their supposed attack, we were caught off guard when Ren suddenly ambushed Solterra’s village and killed many innocent people. I was so enraged I thought about killing him myself, but then Demitri is right. I can’t fight with my situation right now. I can’t put our child in danger just because of my anger. After all, I’m sure they will be able to successfully avenge David and the people who died.
“I heard Ren has mastered power of manipulation, and who knows what other evil antics he has under his sleeves. Promise me, Demitri. Promise me that you will return,” I said, my chest tightening. As much as I want to fight with him, I don’t want to risk the life of our unborn child.
He held my hand tight and kissed my forehead. “I promise, my love. I will return. I will come back for you and our child. I won’t fail.”
“It’s about time, brother.”
We both looked at Martin. Gone the smiles and playful smirks in his face. He looked morbid, so dark and so ready to shed blood. Like Demitri, he must have felt so bad about what happened to David. The three of them were so close, I could imagine the pain they are going through.
Demitri nodded and looked at me.
“We need to go.”
“I want Raja to go with you,” I said.
‘Whatever you please, my lady,’ Raja spoke in my mind.
“No. He should stay here with you. Like you said, we don’t know what other evil antics Ren has under his sleeves. You can’t lower your guard while we are away. With Raja with you, I will be assured that you’d be alright.”
I wanted to insist but with the finality in Demitri’s tone, I knew there was nothing that could change his mind about it.
With the darkness looming in the sky, I watched them as they left with Solterra’s best troops.
When I married Demitri four months ago, I thought everything would be alright and we would have our happy ever after from that day onwards. We would have our own family and live peacefully. I didn’t think that it would not last long. But despite with all that’s happening, I still hope that at the end of the day, Demitri will come back to my arms and assure me of a forever with him.
But I guess hoping for that was too much. Fate is cruel as well as this world we live in. Happiness isn’t a given. It comes with a great price.
And this is the price I need to pay.
“Crown Princess! The palace barrier is broken!”
I stood from my seat abruptly when a palace guard hurried to the hall.
What? Broken? But it was built by the king himself! It’s an invisible protective barrier that surrounds the whole palace, forbidding the outsiders to go inside without permission.
“What do you mean? Who broke—”
My jaw dropped when the next moment, the palace guard I was talking to fell in the floor with a sharp blade pierced through his chest.
I heard Raja’s angry growl and my gaze immediately drifted to the entrance of the royal hall.
I’ve never seen Ren Lancaster in person because I didn’t have the chance to. I just heard things about him. Even so, right that moment, I was so sure that the person walking towards me was him.
His hair was red and ponytailed. He has three piercings in the right ear and has a tattooed symbol at his left temple down to his cheek. He was wearing a black cloak tainted with a lot if red stains, which I’m sure is blood. The thought of whose blood is it terrifies me. By the way he looks, he obviously just came from a war. But why did he make it here? Does that mean…
No. It can’t be.
Red smoke went out from my necklace. The next second, Raja’s growl echoed in the whole palace. His tail surrounded me in a protective stance.
“So it’s you,” Ren spoke with a sly smile on his face. “The famous Crown Princess of Solterra, the only one alive who can summon a fire dragon. The mistress of fire. Now I see where those rumors came from. You have an incomparable beauty indeed.”
“Ren Lancaster,” I uttered his name with disgust.
“Right.” He nodded. “I am Ren Lancaster, the king of Frostville and will soon be the king of all kingdoms. And you…” He smirked and advanced a step. “Shall be mine.”
The poison of anger was quickly spreading throughout my nerves I felt like I was going to explode.
“I am a married woman. I can’t be yours,” I said, gritting my teeth. “And you are not a king. You are nothing but a despicable creature who’s thirsty for power.”
“Of course, you can be mine. Your husband is dead. You are not married now.”
I felt shock at first… then I felt hollow and cold, it was followed by so much heat that I almost couldn’t breathe, and the next thing I knew, my whole body was on fire.
I leaped and attacked Ren aggressively. Raja followed my move, probably thinking that he should finish Ren off before I lay my hands on him. But to my surprise, the hall’s floor turned to ice and I heard another growl, from an unfamiliar dragon this time. An ice dragon went in and attacked Raja. I saw how Ren smirked with satisfaction etched in his eyes, so I figured that the dragon must be his.“Surprised, sweetheart? You see, I am also a dragon summoner. The two of us are the same. We fit for each other. I guess it’s what they call destiny?”“Destiny, you fool! What did you do to them?! Where is Demitri?!” I yelled and lifted my hand in the air. My blazing sword appeared and I held onto it tightly as I sauntered forward.I lashed my sword in the air, creating waves of fire, but he blocked it so fast with his wind blades.“I heard you are pregnant? One month? Two? It’s not visible yet so I wonder. I suggest
The ground shook and I saw how large vines crawled inside the hall. I looked at Queen Romina and saw her eyes turned to fiery green. I didn’t waste time and made my own move. I formed the dragon’s bow—a blazing bow that could make a fire arrow that could burn anything. I aimed Ren who’s now cutting the large vines attacking him. I thought it would hit him, but just when it was about to hit the part of his chest where his heart lies, he moved as fast as lightning. He threw a ball of dark energy towards Queen Romina that slammed her to the wall. It all happened too fast, I wasn’t able to move. The queen coughed blood and my lips parted. I quickly ran towards her side. That was a big blow, it must have badly injured her.“Mother, are you alright?”She struggled to give me a nod but I know she can no longer fight with her condition. Her body is weak. During those days she locked herself, she hadn’t eaten anythin
Raja slowly vanished and returned to a red smoke. It then went back to my necklace, and all I was able to do was watch the last trace of him vanish in thin air.‘Raja, are you there?’ I asked through our mind link, hoping that he’s just in the necklace and still could talk to me.But his response didn’t come. Not even his usual growl when he doesn’t feel like answering my question or when I’m doing something stupid. All I hear was silence. Empty silence that made me feel so cold inside.“Your annoying pet is now sealed, dear Ophelia. He can’t interfere my business anymore,” Ren said evilly. With tears in my eyes, I tried to talk to Raja again, but there was no answer. He was really sealed into endless sleep and I don’t have the least bit idea how to awaken him. Even King Arthur and Queen Romina thought that there was no way to awaken David. They said that the seal can only be broken by the one wh
“The big bad wolf stood in front of the third little pig’s house. He tried to hit and blow it down, but he simply couldn’t do it as the house was made of bricks, indestructible and couldn’t be blown down. Furious of his fail, he sought for another way and saw the chimney. He climbed his way up to the roof and slipped down the chimney, only to fall right into the fireplace and burn his whole tail. He hurriedly ran out of the house and never dared to bully the three little pigs again.”Reading the story, twenty-year-old Luke, made sure his words were clear and loud enough to be heard. His lowered his tone eventually at the end of the story, trying to lure his listener to sleep. However, he could not tame the energy of the five-year-old kid.Luke had spent an hour and half reading twenty stories in the storybook, with “The Three Little Pigs” as the last one, leaving his mouth dry and drowsy after so much talking. But the child lying to him remained wide awake, not even showing the slight
"What is this?" I asked Landon when he brought me to an old manor somewhere in north Manchester.Right after he had killed Maximilian, he killed his two wives and Maximilian's people were killed by Henry and Landon's other men. We left the place shortly. Then the day after, Landon brought me in this place with me having no idea what business are we going to do in this place."Your ancestor's manor. This is owned by Elena Ross, the mother of Elizabeth," Landon replied."Elena Ross? The name doesn't ring a bell. As far as I know, Grandma Elizabeth's mother named Celestine, not Elena.""Celestine…" He nodded. "Must be the name she used when she started a new life with her husband.""You mean she changed her name? But what for?" If it was Landon the one who said it, I'm sure it is not a fallacy or something. I don't know why it come to him, I trust easily. Why would he lie about this matter anyway?"Follow me," Landon said and walked inside the manor.I followed him and saw that the insid
“Henry? Why Henry when you can train me yourself?” I asked Landon because I really want him to train me himself. I know he is skilled enough to do that. He is powerful and very strong so I don’t understand now why he wants Henry to train me in heavier training when he already trained me in some basics before. I mean what is wrong with that? I am sure he is capable enough to teach me everything I need to learn. Not that it can guarantee that I will learn everything within three days because that is really impossible and I know that, but let's just say I am more comfortable around him than anyone else. Not that Henry makes me uncomfortable. He is a great man and a very loyal one, of course. But can’t I have my husband train me so we can have more time together? I mean who knows what will happen three days from now? No one knows what will happen—well, except those vampire/s who have the ability of precognition—but except them, no one knows.“It’s just, what we did in the past was only th
My head was aching badly when I opened my eyes. I knew at once that I was in a grand unfamiliar room I've never visited before. A golden chandelier was hanging above and the intricate details of the furnitures and every corner reminded me of the Victorian style. But even though it looked classic, it also has a bit of modern touches.Sure, it was a good place to sleep in, but where was this place exactly? As I rose slowly in a sitting position, the double doors of the room opened. A man in an all black attire went in. He was wearing a black turtleneck, black slacks and black overcoat. One look and I knew he was close to my age. A few years older than me at least. He was tall, lean and his chest was broad. He looked strong. My gaze then climbed to his face and found a pair of raven brooding eyes. His features were marked with hardness, especially his angular jaw that brought enough manliness that his face needed. His nose was high-bridged, lips thin and pale red, and skin was pale but s
What did he say? Did I hear him right? As if he was able to read the question in my face, he said, "You heard me right, Eve. Your mother, Doris Walters, and your father, George Delluci, are dead. It was reported as murder and still under investigation, but I'm sure it was Vienna's doings.""No…" I shook my head. "That's not true! That is… impossible!""If you are still not convinced, see it for yourself," he said flatly as he pointed the bedside table with a nod.I turned to the table and saw what he was pointing out. I moved once, very swiftly, that it barely took a fraction of second. It was newspapers. One was from Lynnwood, the other was from Dad's city.I froze when I saw the headlines of both newspapers. I felt something within me, something like scorching. I could feel the venom at the tip of my teeth, and the urge to destroy everything.I stood and the next second, I was already on the door but the man was then beside me, stopping me from going out."Where are you going?" he a
Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks when I read what is written in the invitation delivered to me. Landon, who was carrying our little girl in his arms, went to me with an alarmed face when he saw my expression.“What is wrong?”I shook my head and smiled. “I’m just happy.”“Happy about what?”His eyes drifted to the invitation card I was holding.“Carter is getting married?” His gaze went back to me and I saw his worried face as if something is wrong with me, or that I feel bad about it and he wants to comfort me or something.“Yes.” Whoever this Lea Da Vinci is, I am happy that she filled the hollow part in Carter’s heart. He is such a good man and I have been waiting for this day to come. For him to be finally happy again. For him to be loved again the way he deserves to be. And I feel so glad that I couldn’t help but burst to tears.“You are upset because he’s getting married,” Landon stated in a calm voice as if he understood clearly that I love another man aside from him.“No! I
Everleigh's POVOne would really doubt if he would know my history and how I ended up lying on the sacrificial table voluntarily as an offering for whatever ritual this is. The night after I came to see Alec is the month's full moon—the day of the ritual. Alec must be so happy that I am finally making his dream come true. I could see it in his eyes. Though, I could also see that he felt not the least bit of remorse for what is about to happen. All I could see in his eyes is pure excitement, joy and nothing else. He will never regret this for sure. He has no conscience. On the other hand, I know how Elizabeth would feel if she would wake up in another person's body who looks exactly like her and know that for her to come back, she needed to kick out the poor girl's soul out of her own body so she can replace it. She would feel real bad for sure. She would despise Alec more than what she did before. She would also despise herself for being the cause of it all. She would hurt and I doubt
After one month…As soon as I got out of bed I immediately felt nauseous. I quickly run towards the bathroom. I grabbed my hair and vomited on the sink.Early in the morning this is what happened. So I couldn't help but doubt that Lili's suspicion was true. From what I've heard, pregnant women sometimes have morning sickness.I heard the bathroom door open, I no longer bothered to look back because I was busy vomiting. No one enters my room without asking for permission first except Carter."Baby," his voice was soft.I thought he already left last night but here he is, fueling my irritation again."Why are you here? Get out! I don't need you here! You should leave me!"I tried to get out but he just blocked me. With our body's closeness, I can smell his manly perfume. I inhaled his scent. It's so fragrant I feel like I want to smell you all night. But I tried to ignore the feeling of wanting to hug and smell him all day."Don't block my way, Carter!"He sighed. A ghost of smile plast
The weeks I spent with Landon after the wedding felt like the happiest moments of my life. I was afraid though. It was ironic that I felt afraid in the middle of happiness, but I guess it really goes that way. When you are too happy, you would want that moment to never end because of course people always prefer to be happy, right? That’s where the fears start. You would fear that the moment will end. And I wasn’t an exception. In the middle of my so good happiness, I got afraid that our happy moments will soon end.True enough, I realized that everything does have an ending, and that one should brace himself when he feels so much happiness because no one knows what is waiting for you after it.And on my case, I thought I already have my happy ending because that was what I felt with Landon, but I was wrong. It was proven that when you are happy the most, that’s when you could become vulnerable the most. What makes someone vulnerable? Fears. The desire for happiness. Family. Love.“Dri
"Here's your room," Adeline once opened a door. After dinner she immediately volunteered to guide me to my room."Actually, my maids' rooms should be near my chamber. That's why there are no vacancies there. It's not that far from you. Just go straight this way and you'll find a door with a symbol of a sun and tiara.""I'll remember that," I said and nodded."I will send clothes for you. You can ask for anything else you need.""Thank you, Lady Adeline.""You're welcome, Elizabeth. Get some rest."I nodded. He smiled and nodded as well before turning around and walking down the hallway he had pointed to earlier. I sighed and went in.Not small and the room but also not oversized. It's bigger than I expected, actually. In the Deluca mansion, the two of us slept in a smaller room. So this is a lot better. The bedsheets are white, the curtains are gray and simple. The whole room was clean and organized. I sighed and faced the large mirror there.I shook my head disappointedly when I saw
I just quietly obeyed his command so that we could finish there. I got a black dress shirt on his rack of clothes. I handed it to him."Here," I said. His forehead creased. Did not accept."What? You said you want a black–""Help me wear it. Do I have to say that too?"I sighed and swallowed all the irritation and impatience. Remember your goals, Serra. Be patient. Just a little more patience.I helped him put the sleeves on each arm. I held my breath because of the irritation. He noticed it. I know because I saw mockery in his eyes as he watched me buttoning his shirt. He badly wants to torture me and this is his way. My anger and misery satisfies him."I can see that you don't like doing this. Why not give up, instead? Just tell me what I want to know and you'll be freed."I finished the last button before looking up at him. I equaled his dark stare with dauntless eyes filled with grit."Thank you, but no. I don't intend to give up. I'd rather be killed."His eyes grew grimmer by th
Everyone's eyes went to me. I was caught off guard. I could not speak immediately."I told you so, Adelle. You shouldn't trust anyone easily," Lucian said.Adeline looked at me, shocked too. I shook. How did it happen that it was found in my room? I didn't steal anything!"N-No! I didn't do it, Lady Adeline! I don't know how that got to my stuff!""How are you going to explain the evidence, then?" Venice asked.I did a quick thinking."What about CCTVs in the hallways?""It was already checked. The past days, no one entered Adeline's chambers except the four of you. And I also don't know who took it. But who knows you hid it somewhere in your dress? Because it can be seen on CCTV?" Lucian, raised an eyebrow at me.My fist clenched, trembling. The corner of the eye heats up with excessive irritation.“I didn’t steal anything,” I insisted.Lucian smirked. "The evidence is right in front of you, Miss Elizabeth. My sister's necklace was found in your belongings. Isn't that enough to prove
I stared at the torn parts of the diary. It just stopped there and my mind was left with so many questions that I think it could blow my head off. What was that? Why did Elizabeth wrote about her and those people? And take note, there was no special abilities mentioned. Even her didn't describe that there was something supernatural with herself when she was supposed to be a full blooded vampire—someone who was supposed to be very much capable of protecting herself. But on the first part, it was obviously stated that she feared that Mr. Deluca and how fortunate she was that Weston and Lucian arrived that time and saved her from the bastard's hands. And why do I feel like something had developed between her and Lucian? And how she described each detail of the events that took place that time, it was all humanly. I have lot of questions about the happenings, all right. Like the sects and all, but of course it took place probably a century ago, and most likely not in United States. I supp
Slowly, the glittering thing above me became clear. It's a chandelier. I am in my room, in my bed. My sweat was dripping and I didn’t know why I was feeling so nervous."Don't worry, she is just fine," it was a familiar voice. Is it our family doctor?I closed my eyes for several seconds. When I opened it again, I froze when I saw my father's worried face, his sea-green eyes reflecting mine. I gulped, suddenly confused as to why I was feeling scared.I was about to ask what happened when I suddenly remembered something. It was as if I were drenched in cold water when everything I heard in the study came back to me. If there is a stronger feeling than being horrified, then that is what I'm feeling."I'll take my exit now, Lord Alzaro."Dad nodded at the doctor. I was gripped tightly by the blanket when the two of us were left there. My father never showed me violence. He always understands me, that it makes me feel guilty to be scared of him now."What is wrong, Eli?"I slowly climbed
