“Heyy Scarlett come on, stop being such a kill joy and get your ass ready!” My friend, Elora cooed playfully from the doorframe. I smiled, ignoring the tapping noises she made with her shoes against the wooden door frame.
“I’ve not applied mascara yet!” I cried, hurriedly applying a strawberry lip gloss on my dry full lips.
“You know you don’t need them right?” She said eying me up and down, “Your lashes are unnaturally long, they’ll still look pretty without mascara.” Shaking my head at her failed attempt at flattery, I applied the almost dried out mascara on my eyelashes and tied my wild ginger red hair into a messy bun.
“Let’s go now,” She drawled pulling at my arm. “I don’t want to have to stand at the furthest corner of the hall. The prince could be my mate!” She said chuckling. Her silly statement made me burst out in fits of laughter because we both knew it was something that wouldn’t happen.
Allowing her drag me along the almost deserted corridor, I quickly tagged along behind her as we made our way to the auditorium to welcome her imaginary mate… Our new Alpha.
***
The auditorium was filled to the brim by pack members scurrying around to get a glimpse of our new Alpha. I shook my head at teenage girls with heavy make up, giggling in circles they had formed with their respective cliques- they seemed mechanical.
“He isn’t here yet so we’re early enough,” I heard Elora whisper beside me; I nodded my head affirmatively and glanced through the crowd frantically. I was fast becoming lightheaded from the excessive screams, giggles, movement of people in and out of the auditorium and the hotness in the room.
Just as I was about to leave, a sweet intoxicating smell attacked my nostrils making me halt in my tracks. It smelled divine like pines and hand picked grapes in a dewy garden.
“Do you smell that?” I asked Elora who stood closely beside me. She turned to stare at me with a confused grin gracing her porcelain face.
“You mean the stench of bodily fluids?” She asked with a laugh, making me chuckle lightly.
“No something else, something swe—” My sentence was abruptly cut short when a loud cheering erupted in the auditorium.
“What’s happening?!” I yelled at Elora, over the deafening noise in the large space.
“He’s here!” She shouted back; “the prince is here!” Due to my height, it proved quite difficult for me to see him as I was short. In near desperation, I tiptoed, resting against the young boy standing in front of me but was immediately shoved off.
“Arrgh I can’t see him!” I cried out in frustration but Elora only chuckled.
“He’s so handsome.” She cried, her face taking on a dreamy look, “I wish he was my mate!” At the mention of the word ‘mate’, the sweet smell attacked my senses with a ferocious force, it made my mind fuzzy.
“Scarlett! Scarlett I can carry you briefly so that you can catch a glimpse of him!” Elora offered almost pitifully when she took in the frustrated look on my face.
“No thank you!” I answered loudly, my mind was everywhere. I needed to find out where this smell came from.
“What’s it?! You seem bothered!” She yelled, her face contorting with unbridled concern. She stopped cheering and turned to look at me with her hands placed firmly on her waist.
“My mate’s here! I can sense him!” I cried out, desperately looking around me.
“What if your mate is the Alpha?” She asked, chuckling. I joined in her laugh too because I was sure it wasn’t possible. A noble blood like myself usually do not get paired with royalty…
***
I waited until the initial excitement had worn off and the new Alpha whom I still didn’t see had given his speech until I went about looking for the source of my unease.
“Are you really going to do this right now?” Elora complained from beside me as I practically dragged her along the length of the wide auditorium.
“Yes, I know he’s here, it won’t be long before I sniff him out.” I answered stubbornly.
We continued marching down the large room until the smell became concentrated at a particular spot, I stopped.
“What’s it again?” Elora grumbled.
“He’s here. Right here!” I nearly screamed out in excitement; I gasped as soon as I saw the handsome demon sitting opposite where I stood with an intense look on his face. The smell drifted slowly but surely from exactly where he sat; and I was sure he was the one;
“What’s it Scarlett, say something!” Elora nearly shrieked from besides me. I noticed how she moved, bouncing from one foot to the other. It seemed like she also experienced the uncomfortable unease I felt under his scrutiny.
“That’s him Elora, that’s my mate,” I whispered fiercely, in a voice that only her could hear.
“Are you sure?” She asked, looking at me like I had suddenly gone crazy; “Are you sure? Because that’s Alpha Michael, our new Alpha.” She said steely, her voice suddenly cold. My eyes went as round as a saucer, in shock when realization hit.
Just as I was about to walk towards him, to probably introduce myself to him, a loud bang resonated around the auditorium. It was so loud that it made a lot of people scurry about in a bid to protect themselves from whatever it was that had made that sound.
We had been attacked…
The once excited atmosphere suddenly turned chaotic as people began running for their dear lives. Most people from my clan immediately shape shifted to turn into their wolves; but I couldn’t. I couldn’t even force myself to for I was phobo phobic. Anguished screams filled the air as a few members of my pack were attacked and slain, and vice versa. What the hell was happening?I suddenly couldn’t find Elora anymore and I needed to get to safety quickly; going down on my knees, I quickly crawled in all fours until I got into a quiet dark corner which I laid in until most of the noise had subsided a few hours later.“Scarlett! Scarlett!” I heard Elora’s fearful screams from a distance. With my body shaking in fear, I got up from my corner and ran towards her to engulf her in a warm hug.“I was so worried about you,” she said quietly; wrapping her arms around me. I snuggled into her warm embrace, sniffed and whispered,“What happened?” I listened quietly as she tried to quickly explain t
The tears kept falling even as I ran to the little bunker I called my home. I couldn’t believe Elora could betray me like this. I wouldn’t even have thought of her ever betraying me. Just yesterday she was the sweetest, nicest person I knew; and today she acted almost as if I was somebody she had never known.Discarding the lunchbox I had on with me earlier, on my tabletop, I slumped on my bed, my heart lurching in my chest. Even my wolf was too hurt, she couldn’t even speak.“Why?!” I screamed to no one in particular. I couldn’t bear this pain. It felt like a thousand shards of silver were jutting out of several angles in my heart; reveling on and on in the pain of rejection, I cried myself to sleep, I had no one else to turn to…***I begrudgingly peeled my swollen eyes open a few hours later when a muffled noise at my doorstep woke me up. Splashing cold water against my sore eyes, I got up and walked to the door.“Hi wh—” but my words sucked up in my throat when I noticed an army o
“She’s still alive!” A voice yelled snapping me out of my reverie.“Let’s leave her there, she could be an enemy!” Another, more cautious one replied.“I do not think she works for anyone! Can’t you smell her? She smells like a rogue!” The first one snapped almost indignantly at the second but that didn’t stop the second from voicing out his fears.“You don’t know the extent these people take to disguise themselves,” He grumbled. “I won’t be shocked if her people intentionally made her rogue just to make her seem alone.”“Okay fine let’s just save her first. When she becomes stable, we’ll take her to our Alpha. If she’s a spy, he would find out himself.” The first one answered.“Yeah, he’d torture answers out of her like he did to his mate until she died,” the second replied with a laugh. I knew the person they talked about was me; but I felt too weak to voice out my opinion.I simply let them pull me up from the cold wet grass I had laid in like for forever and dump me in an old rust
I shook with fear as a large scissor was tossed into the Alpha’s rough palm by a bulky bodyguard who stood behind him.“Alpha, she might die if tortured; she’s still too unstable to be interrogated!” The doctor said stubbornly, trying to stand in between the arrogant Alpha and myself. “If you want your tiny tongue in my dinner tonight, stand in my way!” The Alpha yelled. I quietly watched how the doctor suddenly looked deflated in an instant; like the fight had been drained out of him. “Everyone, leave us alone!” He yelled at the doctor and the guard behind him. At his command, they both scurried away, throwing pitiful looks my way. After they had left and shut the door behind us, the Alpha immediately pulled out the IV set from my arm with a force that shook my veins a little.“I swear, I am Scarlett. Scarlett Paige!” I screamed even before he would lay a finger on me. He turned to look me dead in the eye and proceeded to pressing down hard on my thigh, on an injury that was takin
**Scarlett’s POV**I stood there, rooted to the spot with my stomach pressed against the hospital bed as he plunged into me continuously with precise thrusts. My head reeled, my vision blurred and my legs were fast turning into jelly, but he didn’t stop. To worsen matters, he forbade me from making any sounds in order to prevent the people outside the door from knowing what was happening inside the room. A few minutes into the sex, an inexplicable burst of orgasm wracked my body which made my eyes well up with tears. I fell limply against the bed.“Kneel.” He said suddenly, making me go down on my wobbly knees slowly. As soon as I had knelt before him, he grabbed my head by my hair and inserted his big erection into my mouth, making me gag slightly.I was still finding it quite difficult to accommodate his manhood in my mouth when he started moving. At first he began slowly, only to pick up pace a few minutes later. Black dots danced in my line of vision when his thrusts became fast
**Scarlett’s POV**“What are you doing there?!” He snarled venomously, his face looked like it was about to burst with rage. And his eyes, his eyes were as dark as two bottomless pits.“I-I w-was lookin-ng f-for t-the library!” I stuttered, shivering under the intense stare He was throwing at me.“And does this look like library to you?” He snapped. Confusedly, I looked around me to take in the large book shelves filled with new books, and the table and chairs placed in a nice pattern in a corner, and shook my head slowly at him.“Yes, this is a library.” I almost whispered. My answer seemed to rile him up more than he already was as he scrunched up his face further- if that was even possible- and took three predatory steps towards me until he was towering over me.“I asked a question Scarlett, does this look like a library to you?” Is this Alpha a lunatic? Of course this is a library!“Yes sir, it is.” I whispered back. I wasn’t sure what it was that happened, but immediately the wor
**Scarlett’s POV** I woke up with a start, I tried to sit up but I discovered I couldn’t do it properly. The events of the past night played in my head and I couldn’t help but feel intense loathing for the man that had inflicted me with so much pain. I looked around me quickly to discover I was still in the Alpha’s bedroom; and in slight fear, I hastily threw on my clothes and scurried out of the room. By the time I arrived in my own little room at the pack house, it was already way past seven and I was already late to work- again! Quickly taking a shower, I wore one of the clothes that had been brought to me the previous day and practically sprinted out of my room, to the Alpha’s office. “Good morning!” I greeted the girl from yesterday exasperatedly as I ran into her by the doorstep. She smiled a soft smile at me while holding me up. “Good morning! Why’re you in such a hurry?” She asked. I wanted to slap her for asking such a thing, but I let it slide. I didn’t want to go aroun
**Scarlett's POV** All I could feel towards the both of them was resentment and bitterness. Coupled with the pain that shot through my veins was my uneven breathing as I couldn't take it anymore. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I bit my lip hard to stop myself from crying out loud. The red haired lady bent over and laughed; she was enjoying the hell I was going through. How I wish I could wipe that smug look off her face; I'd be delighted. “How are you loving that?” She asked, still wearing that smile I desperately want to turn upside down. I raised my head to look into her eyes, but she grabbed my hair instead. “Wow, you have no respect at all. You had the guts to stare into my eyes?” She pressed my body down, giving the shards of ceramic an opportunity to dig deeper into my skin. I winced in pain as hot tears dropped from my eyes. “To be honest, I wonder where he gets incompetent, sluggish and disheveled workers like you from. You're so pathetic!” She exclaimed and stood up. “N
