“How long can I wade through the tide?”

Daisy’s POV

“Get up,”

The sun had risen, I looked outside, my eyes taking in the last sunrise before I took my last breath.

My heart beat matched the tempo of the drums as I walked down to the arena, where they had prepared my gallows.

The air was somber, children stood with pitiful gazes watching as I was to be brought to my final end.

My father stood on the make shift stage, his eyes shining brighter than the sun. Astrid stood beside him, dressed in black from head to toe. It was almost like she was mourning my demise.

“We are gathered here today, by the ruling of the old law,” Lucien started, his eyes fixed on mine.

“today, Daisy Smith had been found guilty of theft,” he said, his voice cracking at the pronouncement.

My hands were tied around the pole, my shirt had been ripped out.

The drumming had stopped, the silence was palpable, and I closed my eyes tight, begging myself to not fall apart.
