Nikolai’s POV

I groaned and my eyes fluttered open as I shifted on the mattress I’d laid on the floor the night before when Lilliana insisted that she couldn’t sleep on the same bed with me.

My eyes scanned the room and my heart almost left my chest when I saw how neat the bed was and the fact that Lilliana wasn’t in the room hit me.

Where could she be? What was she thinking when she left the room without letting me know? What if something had—

“Lily!” I called before I could finish thinking about all the terrible things that could have happened to her.

Checking everywhere in the building I now live in with her, Lilliana was nowhere to be found. Fear gripped me as I made my way out to search for her.

“Have you seen Lilliana this morning?” I asked one of the maids but didn’t let her finish talking as I tossed her aside to check everywhere else.
