"Any news from the hacker that took the job?" Mark asked as he walked into his office the following day, and his assistant, Ted, sighed heavily.
He had stayed up all night trying to get in touch with the hacker named "sinful" whenever they came online, but all through the night, he never heard the notification that the other person was online, which left him disappointed.
"They haven't revisited the firewall; I'm starting to think that they gave up or something; maybe we should find someone else to do it," Ted suggests.
Mark glared at him as he hung his jacket on the rack.
"If it were easy to solve, wouldn't it have been solved a while ago? What nonsense are you spouting?" Mark asked comically.
"I'm thinking we should source help from the foreign hackers; it might be something they are familiar with since they broke it in the first place," Ted explained.
Mark stared blankly at Ted, wondering how he had chosen someone as dumb as Ted to be his assistant.
"We will wait for them to come and solve it. The website won't allow them to take another job without finishing or dropping the current one they are working on," Mark explained, and Ted gave a nod of understanding.
"Then I will keep an eye out for them. They might just be busy with other things for the moment."
"You should. How did the property acquisition go? Did the team get the needed ones?" Mark asked as they started discussing the business for the day.
"It didn't go smoothly; the people from Chairman Nelson's side are also eyeing the property, and once they heard you were the one that specifically chose those places, they offered the sellers more prices," Ted reported, and Mark grinned evilly.
"Don't worry, let them have it. Any amount above the prices I offered is a loss for the buyer and a profit for the seller." He had thrown down the bait waiting for the prey to be hooked and without disappointing him they caught the bait.
Although the properties on the first list were valuable, his aim had been the second list from the beginning. If he had gone for the second list from the beginning he knew they would have had to fight the other people for it and he would end up spending more than he intended to.
"You can get in touch with the owners from the second list with you and do it fast so we can begin the second phase of the new project," Mark instructed while sorting out the file on his table.
"Concerning the new project, Sir, the foreign company refused to sell the materials needed for the chip to us; they claim to have limited quantities at hand, and they already sold them to another company here in Salem." Upon hearing the news, Mark paused, and his expression became as hard as a rock.
It took him three months to convince the company to sell them those materials, and after all the arrangements were made and everything was sorted out, they went back on the agreement.
"Are they willing to pay the agreement bridge fees?" He asked calmly, making sure he didn't allow his anger to cloud his judgement.
"They agreed to pay the compensation alongside our initial deposit. I thought it was suspicious that they suddenly cancelled their initial agreement and readily chose to pay back the compensation fees given the financial state of their company, so I looked into it and found out the materials were all sold to Henry Hamilton's company," Ted reported.
"Henry Hamilton?" Mark asked curiously as he searched his memory for the name.
"Henry Hamilton is the Husband to Mabel Hamilton, the one we had a partnership with over the Nexphone four summers ago." As Ted explained, Mark finally remembered the person, Henry Hamilton.
"You mean the sucker from last year's banquet? The one who wanted to match me with his daughter?"
Ted's face twitched as he heard the nickname given to one of the country's most famous businessmen. He wasn't surprised that his boss didn't remember him by name, as Mark only calls people he finds impressive by their names. He could forget a random person he met a minute ago while still remembering a notable person who was dead by name and face and their work.
"Are they planning on making the chips too?" Mark asked curiously; he was interested in chip making and intrigued that a second-rate company like Hamilton's wanted to make them too. It has taken him and his team one year to learn the basic technology needed to produce the chips, and even then, they aren't sure the production would be successful.
"I'm not entirely sure about what they intend to do, but it's been confirmed that they work closely with the Willows, who are also part of Chairman Nelson's people, so I think they are just a tool to stall you."
Mark massaged his nose bridge as he heard the hateful name for the second time within an hour.
"We don't have to do anything; just keep an eye on them and report back to me. We will look for other companies to buy the materials from. Chairman Nelson is looking to expand his influence. So we will allow him to play a bit more."
"Your father sent a message," Ted reported cautiously, Mark's expression turned blank as he heard his father send a message, "What does he want?"
"He wanted to ask if you had gone to visit your grandfather lately, it was all over the news that Fredrick went to visit him a few days ago. It would appear that the master is still worried that your grandfather would change his mind about who his successor would be," Ted explained.
Mark felt truly exhausted by the number of problems that needed to be solved, he looked at his schedule for free time so he could arrange a meeting with his grandfather.
"I don't have any free time this month and the next, why don't we fix a meeting with him in three months? You can show my father the schedule if he is dissatisfied" Mark instructed and dismissed Ted, who couldn't help but wail in his heart about his boss' attitude.
'Young Master Mark you have three free spaces on your schedule, you just don't want Young Master Fredrick to think you are competing with him for your grandfather's attention.'
Lily stretched as she stood up from the bed, it's been three days since she broke through the firewall of Alpha's company. She had done nothing except read the books provided by the system and eat and sleep all those days. Her family had been so considerate of her condition that they never allowed her to leave her room except to walk around the house and stretch her body. The three days that followed were a whirlwind of new information for Lily. She learned techniques and approaches to programming and hacking that were beyond anything she'd ever seen on Earth. The concepts were strange, otherworldly, and seemingly from the future. Her brain was buzzing with new knowledge and possibilities. On the fourth day, she emerged from her room to find the house empty. A note from her mother on the kitchen counter informed her that she was back at work, and there was money for dinner. Opening the fridge, Lily found a breakfast and lunch prepared for her.Victoria hummed in reply and warmed up
"I need a new computer and a stable network connection if I'm going to study the hacking and coding textbooks you are providing me with, they are too advanced for my shabby ones," Lily noted. {You have enough money to get those things now, but you have to create some time to attend the national fashion competition.}"Do I still have to attend that?" Lily asked with a raised brow. {Of course, you have to! It's Lily's wish to win the competition and start up her fashion business after it,} the system reminded her. "It's already too late to join the school team now, isn't it? My spot on the team would have been given to someone else after my accident" Lily argued. {You can join as a private individual but you need to have a registered company and at least two workers in your company before you can register to join the competition,} the system explained."How do you expect me to join and win the competition now? We don't have a company at hand. Wait, when is the competition, I know no
'Crash' Frederick, Mark's cousin and rival, smashed his wine cup on the wall as he read the reports provided by his spies under Mark. He glared at the beautiful lady who had come to deliver the report to him."Why are you just telling me this?" He gritted out. "Why didn't you include the information of the person who sold him the programme? Didn't you think it would be important to get me such crucial data?" He added feeling his fury burn through his blood. He had once again been bested by his younger cousin."Young master Frederick, we had no way of knowing about the arrangement as it was not discussed with the board of directors. We were only informed about their team's plan of making the chips and we sent it to you as soon as we heard about it," Tina, the beautiful petite lady explained."What do you mean that it was not discussed with the board of directors? How was he able to fund the project without the financial approval of the financial department?" Frederick questioned. "Th
"Mum! Dad! I'm home!" Lily announced upon getting home. She carried the grocery bags into the kitchen where her mother was busy making dinner. "Where did you go? Why didn't you call and have someone escort you when you were going out? What if something had happened on the way? You aren't strong enough to walk about on your own!" Her mother reprimands her worriedly. She moved away from the stove and checked Lily all over, Lily blushed and reassured her that she was fine."See, I'm fine and fit to go out now. I didn't even get scratched while I was outside!" Her mother glared at her playfully and went back to cooking. She turned her attention to the heavy grocery bags Lily had brought in and raised a questioning brow, "What are those and where did you get the money?""I went out to get groceries, I worked for a company online and I got paid," Lily replied, half-telling lies and half-truths. "Online? I hope it's not some shady business. I heard some youths are going to jail lately afte
As Lily and her family returned home, Lily's mother stopped Lily to sit in the living room so that they could have a discussion."Are you sure you want to go back to school?" She asked worriedly, keeping her eyes on Lily's every reaction. "Yes, I have decided to go back now, I'm no longer taking a break for a year." Lily assured her with a firm smile. Lily's mother looked hesitant, glancing over at her husband who sat beside her. The two of them were well aware of how Lily was being treated at school, especially how Merissa was always using her to stay at the top of their class. It was clear that something needed to be done, but they didn't want to upset their daughter by intervening or even their bosses. Although she had initially been against Lily taking a break from school, after thinking about how the competition and Lily being back in school would benefit the wrong people, she had agreed to it without another argument and she even convinced her husband to do so. But now that L
{You are more vicious than I thought.}Lily heard the system exclaim as she exited the chat with Sunset and she chuckled. "If you aren't vicious with your enemies, you will end up like my past self, dead without a way to vent," she explained with a gleam in her eyes making the system roll its invisible eyes. {You know he would make you take the blame if anything goes wrong and you still did that? How would you wash your hands clean? What is your plan to deal with him?}"Just wait and see. The testing day for such a program is three days and after that, it could be considered well-made, by that time, he would have already been promoted and the higher-ups would already know that he took that job!" She explained with an excited giggle. "Plus, I erased my involvement just now and nothing could be traced back to me, so he naturally would be blamed, after that, he would be demoted back to stage one but then I can't let him go. I want him to be kicked out completely so I will instigate th
Hellen pursed her lips at the beeping sound from the other end, she reluctantly removed the phone from her ears with a bewildered expression. "What does she mean stain her reputation?" She muttered in confusion. She had just gotten off the plane and had not been able to log into her social media account but as she thought about Merissa's words, she knew something was off. Upon logging in, she was stunned at the several notifications of people tagging her, before she could read them, her driver arrived alongside her manager, Rex, who looked worried and suspicious. "You should log off your social media account for a while, things are not looking good for you at the moment," he warned as they got into the car.Hellen frowned, "What do you mean? I've been away for a long time to a place without internet and now that I'm back, I can't even log in. Why aren't things looking good?" She asked with a raised voice and the manager glared at her.He had been so stressed dealing with her scand
Mr. Hudson rushed into the house, his face clouded with gloom and anger. He had just received a phone call from the company, informing him of a drastic fall in the company's stock followed by the news of his second daughter's scandal, which had been the cause of the fall in their stock price. As he noticed Hellen standing like an aggrieved child his anger flared up. "You!" he yelled angrily, feeling disheartened by her constant problem-causing attitude. It wasn't long ago that he had dealt with a minor scandal that had to do with her and now he is faced with another major one. Looking at the mother and daughter who had brought him nothing but problems since they came into his house, he couldn't help but regret his actions from years ago.His eyes flickered to Molly who was standing silently on the side and his heart ached. 'How was I too blind to always pick Hellen over Molly?' he thought to himself and turned back to Hellen, whose face had darkened after noting the gentle eyes
"I don't like the fit of this dress, ugh! It's so big and uncomfortable," Celina grumbled as she twirled around, fully dressed for the award event that was going to start in a few hours.Being one of the prominent families in the fashion industry, the Lam Fashion is held in high esteem, making attending the banquet a must for Celina who'd rather be somewhere else than entertaining some obnoxious guests. "You also think it's too overrated, don't you? I told Mum I don't like the dress but she insisted I wear it to honour the designer of the dress who would be in attendance tonight. To think I'll have to spend the next few hours hating myself, ugh!" She continued as she turned to the bored-looking Lily, dressed casually in a sweatshirt and sweatpants. "It's not over the top; it's okay; it just doesn't fit your taste. A lot of people will want to kill to have that dress you know? Just have it on for a few hours and you can change out of it later," Lily advised, making Celina scrunch up
"Sure, what do you have for me?" Mark asked, and Lily brought out her laptop. After typing away for a while, she turned it on to face him. Displayed on the screen were several codes and a small screen showing the analysis for the codes."This is the new programme I set for the Nex device. It's a major upgrade from the formal one, and there is a possibility that it would overshadow the Waves programme we did previously. I did pour out my heart into writing this programme after all," she chuckled after saying the last part."This programme will give birth to a major change in the mobile phone market. A revolutionary change," she continued, each word spoken seemed to capture Mark's heart as he stared at the programme with starry eyes."It's tempting and I can already imagine the huge profit, but what's the catch? I'm sure you could have told me all this through the site instead of meeting in person. Should I be worried I'll have to sell my soul to get it?" He asked with a teasing smile,
"Why are you dressed so suspiciously? What tricks are you up to this time?" Alana asked with a raised brow as she noticed Lily, who was dressed in a way that made her gender unrecognisable."You talk as if I'm always playing tricks," Lily replied with a playful glare. "That's because you are always planning something. Is this related to the new plans for the store or something else?" Alana asked as she looked Lily over, searching for a trace of her boss. "Are you wearing a wig and lenses right now?" She asked and Lily nodded. "If you were meeting me for the first time, would you know I'm a lady? Do I give off the perfect masculine energy?" She asked with a subtle baritone voice, making Alana gape at her in surprise."What's the heck? Yes, I would definitely know; your voice sounds fake and unnatural but you do give off a subtle masculine vibe like the transgender kind.""Are you going to commit a crime?" Alana was questioned with a suspicious expression, making Lily roll her eyes.
"It's just a week away, and you are just telling me now? Now of all time?" Merissa asked exasperatedly, her eyes filled with rage and disbelief as she stared into Zach's indifferent eyes."What do you mean I have to look for another model to work with? Where will I get a good model at this time? Are you expecting me to pick from those leftover crumbs? If that's your suggestion you can forget it!" She exclaimed with a flushed face as she began pacing up and down the living room of her apartment, in nothing but her flimsy night dress.Zach sat down with an indifferent expression that masked the anxiety he was feeling. It has taken him all the courage he could summon, with a lot of overthinking, to finally conclude on this outcome.Cutting off all relations with Merissa before it was too late. After his breakup with Lily and his continuous study of the series of events that had happened around her in the past few months, he could tell nothing good would come to those who opposed the sile
The lively rhythm of the club's music resounded through the air as Frederick leaned in towards the man sitting beside him, his voice barely audible over the deafening beat."How was the investigation? Any response yet?" He asked, his eyes briefly flicking towards his companion before settling back on the mesmerising dancer on stage, twirling seductively around the pole at the centre of the stage. He took a slow sip of his wine, fingers toying with the stem of the glass as he continued following the dancer’s every movement.“I’m afraid we found nothing. I already told you it was an impossible task without a name or any mode of identification,” Devon, his companion, and one of his few friends replied casually with a grin while he played with the woman on his arm. Frederick frowned at his response; this was the third person who had told him the same thing that very day.As promised, he had started looking into the identity of the hacker or programmer working with Mark on his newest pro

As Light walked out of the room, Lily's eyes found Gary's cold ones. Seeing the accusations in his eyes, she lifted her hands in surrender."I was not aware he was coming. I swear I was not in the know," she hurriedly explained, and Gary let out a frustrated sigh."I know. He has our family traits in him; he's determined and stubborn, he would not have stopped until he met me, it's something I had done when I found out about him also." Gary scoffed as he relaxed into the chair."It runs in the family, and seeing the bruise on his lips, I can tell he fought with his father before he came to see me," he added."I thought you were the one that hit him," Alana chimed, earning a glare from Gary."And why would I hit him? On the face, no less? You think I want to ruin his pretty boy appearance?" He asked, and Alana shrugged.Lily sighed as she examined Gary. Although he was putting on a strong front, she could tell he was affected by the sudden meeting between him and his twin brother. She
William walked into the large, exquisite suite, one that had previously been used by the late Victoria and George team when they had an important meeting to hold. The room service attendants dropped off his bags and bowed as they left him to his device. With an expressionless face, he walked to the centre of the room, where a glass bottle was placed in an ice bucket alongside two glass cups.He poured himself a glass of wine as he removed his tie before standing behind the window, looking out into the city. It's been a month of constant hope and failure. One month of tracking through Victoria records to find a way to unlock the software she had left behind proved to be futile as he was unable to find any clue.Even the gadget she used while she was alive had been erased, cleaned, and left behind like a brand new one. This was the last place for him to check before he began using an underhanded method to deal with her teammates. It was a method he never wished to use again, not after V
Sinful: What do you think about my last proposal? Do you think we can work on it?Lily's hands hovered over her keyboard as she typed the words out. Deliberating between sending the message or not, she paused for several minutes before hitting the delete button, afraid that it would come out as pushy.Just as she was about to close the site and get back to sewing, Alpha's profile turned green, showing he was online. And immediately after, it showed he was typing.Alpha: It's good that you are online today. If I may ask, how are you?Without hesitation, Lily typed out her reply.Sinful: I'm alright, just a little bored these days. There's nothing much to work on. The jobs posted on the site are a little too easy, and they don't fetch as much money. I don't want to have to dig around for other people's dirty laundry. What about you? Is everything alright on your side?Mark paused as he read her reply; his eyes flickered at the opened chat on his phone. He had been on the phone with his
