"I need a new computer and a stable network connection if I'm going to study the hacking and coding textbooks you are providing me with, they are too advanced for my shabby ones," Lily noted.
{You have enough money to get those things now, but you have to create some time to attend the national fashion competition.}
"Do I still have to attend that?" Lily asked with a raised brow.
{Of course, you have to! It's Lily's wish to win the competition and start up her fashion business after it,} the system reminded her.
"It's already too late to join the school team now, isn't it? My spot on the team would have been given to someone else after my accident" Lily argued.
{You can join as a private individual but you need to have a registered company and at least two workers in your company before you can register to join the competition,} the system explained.
"How do you expect me to join and win the competition now? We don't have a company at hand. Wait, when is the competition, I know nothing about fashion and cloth design." Lily panicked.
{With me here, you can learn any skill you want, but since I'm at level zero at the moment, you can only learn basic skills but compared to the current trend in this world, the basic skill is enough for now}.
{New task alert! Learn Basic Fashion Designing. Mission reward: 50 system upgrade points}.
{Mission Two: create or buy a clothing company and employ two workers.}
Lily frowned at the new set of missions and narrowed her eyes at the space in front of her.
"Will I get a new mission every time I'm faced with unfamiliar situations?"
{Most likely, if you intend to build an empire, you have to learn the basic skills at least}.
"Alright, let's go buy me a computer first, we will start learning fashion design after successfully signing the contract with Alpha!" Lily suggested and got dressed to go out.
{While you are at it you might as well buy some nice clothes. The original owner doesn't have anything decent, and you have to start caring for your image starting from now. I wasn't able to complain about the shabby clothes before now because you have no money but now that you do, buy more beautiful clothes!}
The next day, Lily arrived at the designated café dressed in a hoodie that covered her face, paired with a face mask.
She stood in front of the café for several minutes, bracing herself for what was to come. The passerby gave her weird stares as she was dressed suspiciously.
After confirming through the system that their target was in, she took one last deep breath and walked to the entrance where she was stopped by the security.
"How may we help you? What do you need?" The first security guy asked, eyeing Lily suspiciously.
"I'm here to meet someone," Lily replied calmly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Meet someone? Who?" The second guy asked, silently ridiculing her choice of dressing. It wasn't the first time they would be dealing with beggars who wanted to go into the café to beg and be suspiciously dressed, they immediately categorised her as one of those beggars wanting to break in.
"I'm here to meet the person in VIP booth 01, you can tell them Sinful is here," Lily replied calmly, trying not to get offended by the way the security guards were treating her with disdain, due to her poor choice of clothing.
But every moment she stood by and watched them ridicule her with their eyes, she lost her calm and patience.
"Why don't you go in and check if I'm lying or not?" She asked in annoyance, the first security guy laughed mockingly.
"You could have mentioned any other room but 01, are you kidding? You have an appointment with the person in 01 dressed like this? It won't work. You can go and beg somewhere here, our café doesn't entertain beggars like you!" He mocked and the second guy laughed.
Annoyed, she brought out her new phone and logged in to the website to message Alpha.
Sinful: Could you send someone to get me, I was not allowed inside.
"It's my fault, I should have at least asked for their contact yesterday."
{Yes or I can generate their contact for you,} the system suggested. Lily's eyes widened under the hoodie.
"You can do something like that?" She asked in surprise.
{It's one of the basic functions of the system. I am connected to the source of the internet and I can get whatever information I need at any time!} It boasted and Lily swallowed the urge to set up a shrine for the creator of the lucky system.
Isaac, who had been on the site, studying the procedure of the firewall, was the one who got the message. Knowing that his boss wanted to meet the master hacker to discuss further partnership, he quickly put a call through to Mark.
"President, the hacker, Sinful has been outside the café but the security won't let them in," Isaac reported, almost cursing the security for delaying such divine being that has been sent their way.
Mark stood up and went outside immediately.
The two security guys noticed him coming out and had a gloating look on their faces.
"You said you wanted to meet the master in booth 01? There he is, let's see if he'll acknowledge you, if he doesn't we will get you arrested for distracting business!" the first guy threatened. Lily remained silent as her eyes remained fixed on the handsome young man, dark hair and a tall slim build.
She recognised him instantly, Mark Watson, the heir to the Watson group. In her past life as Victoria, she remembered her mother had worked with him on a phone project, working with him had been one of the reasons Hamilton was nationally recognised. She could never forget how excited Mom had been after the proposal was signed.
Mark looked around in search of the person waiting, his eyes had skimmed over Lily before he realised she was being blocked by the security.
With pursed lips he went towards them and greeted them politely, "You are Sinful?" He asked.
"You must be Alpha," Lily replied in a deep voice, she had practiced how to mask her voice all night with the help of the system.
"I am, please come in. I'm sorry for the inconvenience they might have caused," he apologized and glared at the two security guys.
Seeing how Mark treated the suspicious person politely, fear filled the hearts of the security guys and they apologized to her.
"We are sorry for the delay, we were just guarding against suspicious people!"
Lily walked away without sparing them a glance, she knew it was her fault for dressing so casually and suspiciously, so she didn't need to find trouble with them.
Mark led her to the private room and gestured for her to sit. He gave her a look over but did not comment on her dress after remembering what Isaac had told him about the hacker.
"What would you like to eat or drink?" He asked politely.
"I'm okay, let's discuss the reason why we are both here," she replied.
She provided a written plan on how she wants to develop the code and programme, and also incorporate it with new or existing technology.
The more Mark read the document, the more interested he became in acquiring the code, but he had been in the business for a long time so he knew not to show his interest too early.
"These are only written and anyone can do the planning, how am I so sure that the firewall and other programs that come with it can be upgraded the way you have written here?" Mark questioned as he dropped the document he was reading.
Lily had been expecting his observation and she brought out her laptop to show him the level two of the one she had sent to him last night.
"The level one I sent to you can only be used by large sites and companies, but the upgraded ones that I'm working on can be used on mobile phones and other portable devices." While she explained, she showed him the level two and how it works.
"Although the general idea is still retained, the more we upgrade the firewall, the more functions it will have. Level one only has the function of locking intruders out, while level two would create a wall around those intruders and trap them inside while corrupting their system, the next level would not only do the function of levels one and two, it would also gather their system information and locate their precise location, no matter the blocker they use," Lily explained in detail while showing him the one she was currently upgrading.
No matter how Mark thought about it, he knew once the technology was revealed, it would send all the other experts into a frenzy as they would try to learn it.
"May I ask if you made the programme yourself?" Mark asked sceptically, he had made sure to keep an eye on the school that produced the best hackers and programmers so that he could employ them and that is how Alpha had remained at the top in the technology aspect of the economy.
"Yes, I did and I'm willing to teach it to your team of hackers after all the upgrades are done," Lily replied firmly.
Mark could not describe his happiness with words as he looked over the project plans again. Acquiring the code would not only take him a step further, he could finally throw off his uncle and cousin in the competition soon enough.
"I am satisfied with the programme and I'm willing to buy an exclusive right to it, I hope you understand what that means?" Mark asked and Lily smirked under the mask.
"I do know what it means, I'm happy you are satisfied with the programme."
Mark provided the contract to buy the rights and after reading it over, Lily signed the contract with the base payment of a million dollars and four million when the whole upgrade was done.
After signing the contract, Mark wanted to ask for her details, instead, she told him to pay the money to the hacker's website. The website has a policy that helps the employee and employer keep their identity secret, no matter how often they transact.
Disappointed that he wasn't able to get her identity, he sighed and decided to let go until another time.
"I hope to continue working with you in the future, so if you have some other projects worth my time, do let me know." Mark gave her his business card.
"It was nice doing business with you."
'Crash' Frederick, Mark's cousin and rival, smashed his wine cup on the wall as he read the reports provided by his spies under Mark. He glared at the beautiful lady who had come to deliver the report to him."Why are you just telling me this?" He gritted out. "Why didn't you include the information of the person who sold him the programme? Didn't you think it would be important to get me such crucial data?" He added feeling his fury burn through his blood. He had once again been bested by his younger cousin."Young master Frederick, we had no way of knowing about the arrangement as it was not discussed with the board of directors. We were only informed about their team's plan of making the chips and we sent it to you as soon as we heard about it," Tina, the beautiful petite lady explained."What do you mean that it was not discussed with the board of directors? How was he able to fund the project without the financial approval of the financial department?" Frederick questioned. "Th
"Mum! Dad! I'm home!" Lily announced upon getting home. She carried the grocery bags into the kitchen where her mother was busy making dinner. "Where did you go? Why didn't you call and have someone escort you when you were going out? What if something had happened on the way? You aren't strong enough to walk about on your own!" Her mother reprimands her worriedly. She moved away from the stove and checked Lily all over, Lily blushed and reassured her that she was fine."See, I'm fine and fit to go out now. I didn't even get scratched while I was outside!" Her mother glared at her playfully and went back to cooking. She turned her attention to the heavy grocery bags Lily had brought in and raised a questioning brow, "What are those and where did you get the money?""I went out to get groceries, I worked for a company online and I got paid," Lily replied, half-telling lies and half-truths. "Online? I hope it's not some shady business. I heard some youths are going to jail lately afte
As Lily and her family returned home, Lily's mother stopped Lily to sit in the living room so that they could have a discussion."Are you sure you want to go back to school?" She asked worriedly, keeping her eyes on Lily's every reaction. "Yes, I have decided to go back now, I'm no longer taking a break for a year." Lily assured her with a firm smile. Lily's mother looked hesitant, glancing over at her husband who sat beside her. The two of them were well aware of how Lily was being treated at school, especially how Merissa was always using her to stay at the top of their class. It was clear that something needed to be done, but they didn't want to upset their daughter by intervening or even their bosses. Although she had initially been against Lily taking a break from school, after thinking about how the competition and Lily being back in school would benefit the wrong people, she had agreed to it without another argument and she even convinced her husband to do so. But now that L
{You are more vicious than I thought.}Lily heard the system exclaim as she exited the chat with Sunset and she chuckled. "If you aren't vicious with your enemies, you will end up like my past self, dead without a way to vent," she explained with a gleam in her eyes making the system roll its invisible eyes. {You know he would make you take the blame if anything goes wrong and you still did that? How would you wash your hands clean? What is your plan to deal with him?}"Just wait and see. The testing day for such a program is three days and after that, it could be considered well-made, by that time, he would have already been promoted and the higher-ups would already know that he took that job!" She explained with an excited giggle. "Plus, I erased my involvement just now and nothing could be traced back to me, so he naturally would be blamed, after that, he would be demoted back to stage one but then I can't let him go. I want him to be kicked out completely so I will instigate th
Hellen pursed her lips at the beeping sound from the other end, she reluctantly removed the phone from her ears with a bewildered expression. "What does she mean stain her reputation?" She muttered in confusion. She had just gotten off the plane and had not been able to log into her social media account but as she thought about Merissa's words, she knew something was off. Upon logging in, she was stunned at the several notifications of people tagging her, before she could read them, her driver arrived alongside her manager, Rex, who looked worried and suspicious. "You should log off your social media account for a while, things are not looking good for you at the moment," he warned as they got into the car.Hellen frowned, "What do you mean? I've been away for a long time to a place without internet and now that I'm back, I can't even log in. Why aren't things looking good?" She asked with a raised voice and the manager glared at her.He had been so stressed dealing with her scand
Mr. Hudson rushed into the house, his face clouded with gloom and anger. He had just received a phone call from the company, informing him of a drastic fall in the company's stock followed by the news of his second daughter's scandal, which had been the cause of the fall in their stock price. As he noticed Hellen standing like an aggrieved child his anger flared up. "You!" he yelled angrily, feeling disheartened by her constant problem-causing attitude. It wasn't long ago that he had dealt with a minor scandal that had to do with her and now he is faced with another major one. Looking at the mother and daughter who had brought him nothing but problems since they came into his house, he couldn't help but regret his actions from years ago.His eyes flickered to Molly who was standing silently on the side and his heart ached. 'How was I too blind to always pick Hellen over Molly?' he thought to himself and turned back to Hellen, whose face had darkened after noting the gentle eyes
"Why do you always give me tasks at the most inconvenient time?" Lily asked with a glare as she heard the system's words.{I'm helping you! Miss Alana is a talented seamstress, she was born into a family whose main source of income is clothing. Their family is known for their exquisite hand sewing and they are considered one of the best in the market. But she is being suppressed and made to do small jobs so that she won't overshadow the daughter from the main family branch!} Lily let out a sigh, "Poor people truly have it hard, but I don't want to get involved in family politics, won't I be suppressed by her family if they knew I'm paving the way for the unwanted daughter?" She asked with a frown.Of course, she is no Mother Teresa who goes around helping people who are in need. Whatever help she renders has to have a much greater profit than the risk and from the look of things, saving Alana has more risk at this stage. "I don't have the power to go against her family yet and I am
"I hate it whenever she comes to our store to buy fabrics, she's always trying to find trouble with me," Alana groaned with a pout, making Lily chuckle at her cuteness. Realising what she had said, Alana covered her mouth and gave Lily an apologetic look."I don't mean to say bad things about your friend," she apologised and Lily waved her off. "She's not my friend, she's a classmate that I don't have a choice but to mingle with," Lily explained with a frown. "Oh, is that so? You must be careful with her, she always looks down on people with lower status than she is! Hmph! I would have had it worse if she had come with her friends today, bunches of unreasonable ladies!" She cussed."I will be careful. Anyway, I need your help with something," Lily said with a serious tone. "What is it you want? I will help you as best as I can!" Alana guaranteed with her hands placed on her chest proudly."I want you to work with me in my new company as a seamstress," Lily offered expectantly. He
"What brings you here?" Frederick asked as Mark casually walked into his office. "What do you think?" Mark replied with a smirk. "I don't believe we are close enough for me to just stop by for a greeting, are we?" He added and took a seat opposite Frederick. Frederick glared at Mark, hating how the latter was talking to him so casually. Swallowing his anger, he relaxed into his seat and raised a brow. "I don't remember having an appointment with you. So it will save us both some time if you go straight to the point; we are both busy men after all." Mark hummed and brought out a flash drive from his inner pocket. "We did have an appointment, but I guess your subordinates are incompetent; they couldn't even inform you about such things. Anyways, I'm here to talk about the collaboration for the government project." He announced."As much as I would like to handle both the construction and security system installation, I do not have the time to do it now that I have another branch to
"Marry me, and we can use your family's influence to pressure him out," he offered. "In the end, you'll get what you want while I also get mine." Roseline paused, her eyes narrowing the longer she heard Frederick talk. By the end of his speech, she burst out laughing uncontrollably, making Frederick's eye twitch in annoyance. "What's so funny?" He gritted out as she forced herself to sober up from her hysterical laughter."Oh, it's not funny," she replied coldly. "I'm just laughing at the absurdity of the proposal you just made. "I may not want to get married to those old fools, but I'm not desperate enough to settle for you, Frederick." She announced.Frederick balled his hands against the table, his eyes twitching uncontrollably while his lips curled into a sneer at the insult thrown his way. "You are saying I'm comparable to those men with one leg in the grave; how remarkable, Miss Anderson," he snarled, and Roseline shrugged."You are free to interpret my words anyhow you want,
"What's wrong with you?" Frederick asked with a frown as Roseline stormed into his office with a flushed face, slamming the door behind her without a care.Roseline, not saying a thing in reply to his question, dropped her bag and walked towards his wine shelf to serve herself a drink. "I'm glad you are comfortable enough to waltz around here like you own the place," Frederick hissed, his tone full of sarcasm and annoyance."They spent last night together," Roseline gritted out after downing the whole glass of wine. Reaching to serve herself another glass, she decided against it and took the whole bottle with her as she sat on the couch opposite Frederick's working area."You are talking about Mark and Lily, right?" Frederick asked with raised brows as he relaxed into his chair, and Roseline nodded in reply before taking a big gulp of wine. She scowled as the pictures she had received resurfaced in her mind. "Mark hasn't slept outside his home, not even at his parent's since he move
"Hey," Lily waved shyly as Mark's car came to a stop in front of her studio. Mark smiled and got down from the car, dressed in a casual black dress shirt and pants. He reached into the back seat of his car and brought out a bouquet and a box of sweets. Mark approached Lily with a bright smile, his eyes warm and inviting as he took in the sight of her."Hey there," he greeted her, his voice smooth and comforting. "You look lovely tonight."Lily blushed, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink as she accepted the bouquet and the box of sweets. "Thank you," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of nervousness as she took a sniff of the flower. "These are beautiful." She compliments."Not as beautiful as you," Mark replied, his tone sincere. "I thought we could start the evening with a little sweetness."Lily smiled, her eyes bright with excitement as she opened the box of sweets, the tantalising aroma wafting between them. "This is perfect," she murmured, selecting a delicate choco
Lily let out a groan as she read the reminder from Dark Star about his last work. Somehow, she had pushed the work out of her mind almost immediately after she had gotten it.However, having been reminded of it, she read through their chat again to refresh her memories of the job description."Investigate a hacker… ok?" She muttered to herself as she continued to read. "I still don't understand why I'm the one who wants to do such a simple job but anything for the money... and the opportunity to screw them over, I guess?"Without wasting time, she logs into the Hamilton's company security system, navigating through the angles and corners, trying to find the traces of the hacker and what they had done or undone."It's pretty easy to break in though," she commented with a frown. "How long ago have they updated the security system around their database?"Lily's fingers danced across the keyboard as she delved deeper into Hamilton's security system. The ease with which she navigated the n
"It's been a while since I've been here, and the atmosphere looks even more busy than the last time," Lily noted as she walked into Mr. Wallace's office. Her brow shot up in surprise as she took in the huge stack of files on his table and how overworked he appeared to be with his tired eyes and hug under-eye bags. "Please tell me you get a few days off in a week," she voiced worriedly and took her seat in front of him."Well, I'm supposed to, but I've not been able to do so these few weeks," Mr. Wallace replied. "On the brighter side, I've learnt to stay hydrated with water instead of other sugary drinks." He added, making Lily worry even more."Okay! Okay! You can pack up and leave now. You'll resume three days later," she encouraged hastily. "I will not have my employees overwork to this extent. You look like a homeless madman despite the expensive suit you are wearing!""I'm fine, I promise," Mr. Wallace sighed. "Let's discuss why I've called you here today, and then maybe I can t
"What was that stupid stunt you pulled the other night?" Frederick demanded, his tone cold and filled with anger as he walked into the private booth to see Roseline already waiting for him.Roseline frowned as she adjusted her jacket while crossing her legs over the other. "I don't understand what you are talking about," she huffed, and Frederick glared at her impatiently."Why would you go confront Lily like that?! You didn't just trash her studio; you even had the boldness to meet up and try to frame her?!" Frederick exclaimed. "How could you do something like that?!"Roseline's eyes narrowed as she met Frederick's furious gaze. Her voice remained calm yet held an edge of defiance as she responded, "Are you on her side?" She asked."I'm on your side!" Frederick grunted out. "You went behind me to do all those things. You think she's just some nobody you can bully around?""She's just a start-up fashion designer; what's there to be upset about?" Roseline huffed in annoyance, hating
"Hey," Mark greeted as Lily pulled open her door the following morning to see him standing with a basket of what seemed to be like breakfast and a bouquet of white and pink roses with other mixtures of flowers in it.A small smile appeared on her lips, reflecting how warm she was feeling on the inside as she realised the effort he had put into making such a romantic gesture."Good morning, Mark," she greeted, stepping aside to allow him entry into her apartment. "This is quite the surprise."Mark returned her smile, a hint of nervousness in his expression as he stepped into the apartment. He looked at the place, liking how simple but cosy it felt. "I just wanted to apologise for last night." He started "Mr. Roux was right; if I had dealt with the situation earlier, you wouldn't have had such an encounter with Roseline. I'm sorry," he apologised.Lily let out a small chuckle as she led him to the dining area. She gestured for him to sit while she brought out plates for breakfast. "Th
Lily waved the two good night, knowing full well tonight's scene would be all over the media by the time she woke up the following day.Letting out a sigh, she closed the door behind her and groaned, "I've appeared in the media this year more than I did all through my life as Victoria.""Of course, there is always a reference when you've already reached the top and when you are just coming up," Bryan replied and started the car. "I got your message.""I thought you said you were out of the country; how come you are here tonight?" They said at the same time, followed by a moment of silence to allow each other to talk before continuing."Father called me home," Bryan provided. "It wasn't something much so I didn't have to stay longer than necessary. So what's that about your message?" He urged impatiently."Well, I have built that lock system you sent in a virtual space. Most things went smoothly, but something is still missing, and I might need to see the real thing for myself to know
