Chapter four

(The mourning)

Pretty sat beside Cassie and she just wept so deeply. Cassie was filled with remorse in her heart and blamed herself for choosing the location and couldn't forget how the attack went.

The police finished interrogating Jay, he came out of the interrogation room and sat the front of them...

"Cassie," he called, not knowing her response because he has been a coward for leaving them alone

She stole a glance at him and her eyes were red due to the tears she shed"what?"

"Am sorry left you girls" he said

Pretty is already asleep "It's okay, we were all scared," she said not having any hate in her

"Pretty Cyprus" an officer called, "you are next" she called 

"Okay," Cassie answered, "pretty" she called

"Hun" she answered from her sleep, stretching her arms

"You are next" she informed her, "Okay, hope you will be good?" She asked Cassie

"I should be asking you that question" as she looked into Pretty's blue eyes giving her a look of confidence "go and don't be scared" 

"I just can't stop imagining Jack," Pretty said

Cassie touched her cheek and said "Jack is a true hero, you should be proud of him" She smiled...

Pretty walked into the interrogation room, 

"Cassie, you will always be my best friend. No matter what happens I will never hate you" Dinah said

"Promise me," Cassie said so she would be sure of what Dinah said

"I promise you" Dinah promised

She remembered those times when they partied together, wear the same colors, make the same choice and make the same decision But Cassie Is always ahead of her in academics and people do say they don't know who looks better though, Dinah has blonde hair and looks cute and her eyes are grey like Cassie's other. 

Visiting each parent was more fun, they always ate cookies and go shopping together, camping but the day that they first set their eyes on Jay Addison they crushed on him but Jay Addison found Cassie more attractive than Dinah. Jay proposed to Cassie but she didn't want to have anything to do anything with him 

After some time Dinah convinced her to accept his offer. They started the relationship but Dinah remained single because no relationship worked then they became friends with Jack and Pretty. They formed an undefeatable group always at the top in academics.

"Cassie castle, you are next" the officer called as the Pretty came in, with her face red

"It's okay Cassie," she said as she used the tissue the police gave her to clean her face.

Cassie made their way to the door took a deep breath and opened the door

"Cassie castle," the officer asked

"Yes, am Cassie" she answered as a chill moved around her body

"It says here that you are the best student of crystal college," he asked as his partner checked the record.

"I am afraid I am" she answered

The woman signaled to the police and he stopped as she took over

"What happened that night?" She asked seriously 

She explained everything she knew.

"Why did you leave Dinah, is it because she had affair with your boyfriend?" The woman asked accusing her.

Cassie was shocked, "I didn't leave, I couldn't save her because we are outnumbered" she answered feeling guilt that she was powerless and couldn't do anything 

"Jay said he saw you leaving your friend when you had the chance to save her," she said to make her tell her the reality.

Tears fell from Cassie's eyes "though I was scared that night and felt betrayed I won't have let her die  she is like my sister and I can't let her go cause I promise her and she promised me" she said in tears "am a team leader and I don't let anyone down or leave them behind"

"But you left Dinah to die though Jack died a hero to save his girlfriend, You are a weak leader who left your team members to die," the woman said...

"I didn't" tears gushed out as she began to flashback.

The man drew the woman's hand, "you are risking her mental state, stop it would you" the man stopped her from hurting her.

"Cassie you can go, we will update you, if we find your friend, and be good till then," he said as the woman frowned her face.

By the time Cassie got outside, she saw their parent outside hugging their kids but Dinah and Jack's family looked closely at her with bitterness in their eyes. 

She walked as slow as snail, she was scared of what their parents will say, 

"Cassie, how did you just leave Dinah like that?" She asked as she burst into tears Dinah's mother.

"You are so ruthless," her father said because of your selfish interest "I thought you are selfless but I know you are a monster," he said

"I didn't leave her" Cassie cried

Jack's father said "you led them to their death," he said

His mother said "I can never forgive you" she had almost cried her eyes out

Cassie's mother bumped in "don't say that to her, I know she led them and they are just kids. Don't just blame her it was their decision" she said crying too

"You ruthless mom, don't know how it feels to lose an only child," Jack's mom said wanting to fight with Cassie's mom. The men blocked her.

"Is it because of your royal title" Mrs. Cruise burst into tears "she couldn't save her because of a boyfriend "

Cassie's father came in after being silent. It irritated him hearing that they kept saying she left her because of Jay.

"If it was you, Mr. Cruise what will you have done" he faced the built man "will you have gone into a fist with the creatures and you officer Rock will you have fought with the knowledge that the creatures were faster," he asked as he is a lawyer

The parents kept quiet for a while and cried silently.

Cassie knelt, "please forgive me, I made the mistake don't fight each other"

The parents left leaving Cassie and her parent alone. 

She wondered in her mind as her parent Drove her home, she kept crying, she has to face the next week. She going to miss her boyfriend and her bestie. 

On getting home, she rushed inside and slammed the door, and broke the frame of her and Jay. How could he lie to her... What did she do to deserve this? 

Her mother knocked on the door "please open up my daughter, please open up" she said as the maid looked at her.

"I brought you food," she said 

"Mom, I am not interested... Please leave me alone" Cassie said aloud

"Cassie, it is dad" her father joined "please open the door" he knocked

Cassie loved her dad so much and told him " please dad, I will let you know when am hungry" she said and burst into tears

Her mom faced her dad "castle do something" she cried on his chest

"I will do something Dear, I promise I will," he said

"She did the right thing, I hope she understands because it is a coincidence," he said in his head looking at her door.

Cassie fell asleep after a while when she works up she went to the mirror and saw, her eyes have become blue and her ears had become long..... She opened her mouth and saw she had flanges and claws.

Oh my God, she screamed at the mirror but by the time her dad break the door, the appearance as disappeared...

"What happened?" Her father asked, 

"I saw a monster," she said holding her dad

He went to search the toilet as her mom held her.

How would she tell them she was the monster?
