Davina’s POV

As I lay on the cold floor, trying to gather the broken pieces of my sanity, the door creaked open again. My body tensed.

I turned my head, wincing at the pain in my neck. It was mother again.

At first, I thought she’d forgotten something. Maybe another cruel jab she wanted to throw my way. But her expression was different. She was acting so mysterious. I got curious.

“Did you forget something, Mother?” I mindlinked her hesitantly. I knew she would answer me straightly but I never expected the response she gave me.

She smirked her lips, and she let out a sharp laugh, one that made my stomach churn. It was then I knew it was trouble.

“Don’t you dare call me that again,” she snapped, pointing at me and glaring at me coldly. “Who would want to have a dumb daughter like you? A worthless omega?”

I couldn't believe my ears. “What… what do you mean?” I stammered, confusion swirling in my head.

She walked closer, clicking her heels against the wooden floor. “You think I’m your mother?” she scoffed, tilting her head as if the idea was utterly ridiculous. “You must not be only dumb, you don't have a brain.”

I froze. “Of course, you’re my mother. Why would you?..”

“Enough,” she cut me off. Sounding angry and hateful “I’m not your mother, Davina. And I never have been.”

The room spun around me. I felt like the air had been sucked out of my lungs. “What?” I whispered, barely able to mind link. “No, you are lying. I know you hate me because I can't speak but you are my mother.”

She folded her arms, and looked down at me with an expression I couldn’t understand… Maybe it was disgust? Or Pity? Maybe Hatred? It wasn't new, I got that a lot from her. “Your father,” she began, with her voice dripping with disdain, “made me promise to raise you as my own after your real mother was banished from this pack.” everything went still immediately. “Like a mother, like a daughter.”

“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “That’s not true. You’re lying. Why are you doing this to me? Why did you hate me so much? What did I ever do to you?”

“I have no reason to lie,” she said coldly. “Do you think I would willingly claim a weak, wolfless runt like you as my own child? Look at lyra, you are no match for her. She's strong, beautiful and smart. I can't bore an omega and a dumbass one like that.”

I began to shake my head, as tears continued to drip down from my face. I could barely process what she was saying. My mind raced, grasping for some shred of sense in her cruel words.

“You… you promised him?” I asked, as my voice trembled. “Why would he..what happened to my real mother? Why was she banished? Tell me!”

Her lips pressed into a thin line. For a moment, I thought she might leave without answering, but then she spoke, nonchalantly without caring if her words were hurting me.

“She was banished because she was a disgrace. A weak, pathetic excuse for a wolf, just like you. She tried to seduce the Alpha, Malcolm’s father and was cast out for her treachery. Such a shame. Just what you were doing to Malcolm now. Seducing him. Soon, you will be thrown out of here.”

I stared at her, my heart shattering into pieces. “You’re lying,” I said again, though the voice in my head sounded less certain this time. “My mother wouldn’t do that. I am responsible and so is my mother. I bet you hated her as much as you did to me. ”

“How would you know?” she sneered. “You didn’t even know her. You’ve lived under my roof all these years, and this is how you repay me? By throwing your pathetic existence in my face?”

I wanted to scream, to cry, to demand answers, but my voice was caught in my head. The room felt suffocating, the walls closing in on me.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and Lyra strutted in, her smirk widening as she looked at me. “Oh, is she finally finding out the truth?” she asked, in a mocking tone.

“Lyra,” I whispered, as tears filled my eyes. “Please… just tell me the truth. Who was my mother? Why was she really banished?”

Lyra laughed at the cruelty, that sent chills down my spine. “You’re so desperate, aren’t you?” she said, circling me like a predator sizing up its prey. “Fine, I’ll tell you. Your precious mother was nothing but a home-wrecking tramp who thought she could steal the Alpha away from his mate. That’s why she was banished. To protect the pack from her disgraceful behavior.”

“That’s not true,” I said, shaking my head. “You’re lying. She wouldn’t do that.”

“How would you know?” Lyra snapped, as her voice dripped with venom. “You don’t know anything about her, do you? All you’ve ever been is a burden, a mistake. That’s why she’s gone, and that’s why you’re nothing to anyone here.”

Tears streamed down my face as her words sank in. I wanted to fight back, to scream that she was wrong, but I didn’t have the strength.

Genevieve stepped forward and placed a hand on Lyra’s shoulder. “Enough,” she said, though there was no kindness in her voice. “Let her wallow in her self-pity. She’s not worth wasting our time.”

Lyra snickered, giving me one last look of disgust before turning to leave. “Enjoy your little pity party, Davina,” she said. “It’s the only thing you’re good at.”

The door slammed shut behind them, leaving me alone in the deafening silence.

I sank to the floor, as my body trembled with sobs. My mind was in a whirlwind of emotions. I felt angry, sad, and betrayed.

My father was gone. My mother, whoever she was, had been taken from me. And the only family I had left had made it clear that I meant nothing to them.

“Why?” I whispered, my voice breaking as I stared at the empty room around me. “Why am I even here?”

But there was no answer. Only the hollow echo of my own pain.

She never told me that we’d be going there. “Mom, is there a problem?” She chuckled. “You worry too much. Just go get dressed. I’ll give you only five minutes.” she said, walking out of the kitchen. I widened my eyes, “five minutes?” “Yes, five minutes.” I looked at myself, huffed, and dropped the cup in my hands and walked out of the kitchen to my bedroom. While I waited for my mother who gave me five minutes. “Five minutes, really Mom?” I said, eyeing her. She smiled and rolled her eyes at me. We walked in total silence to the Alpha’s hou

I totally understood him as Davina's involvement with his son was an insult to him and the pack. “A dumb girl? An Omega?” He scoffed, pacing the floor like a caged wolf. “How dare she? My son, the future Alpha of this pack, risking everything for someone like her?” His voice dripped with disgust. Genevieve, my ever-calculating mother, strolled forward, in a gentle but firm voice. “Alpha, it’s unfortunate, but I felt it was my duty to inform you. Malcolm’s behavior… it’s unbecoming of someone in his position.” Alpha Damian stopped pacing, as his piercing eyes narrowed as he looked at my mother. “You’ve done the right thing, Genevieve. For days, weeks, maybe I’d been locked away in this cold, suffocating room, I was just so desperate to escape. But now, staring at her smug face, I didn’t feel relief. I felt scared. I was back to the hard reality of life. To tasking jobs without food. “Why now?” My voice came out hoarse, but barely more than a whisper. She smirked and leaned against the doorframe. “Why not? Don’t think for a second it’s out of kindness. We’re done with you, that’s all. You’re nothing but a waste of space. Moreover, we have jobs to do.” I wanted to argue, to beg her to keep me still locked up, but I bit my tongue. The last thing I needed was to give her more reason to hurt

I was an omega; the lowest rank in the pack which was tough for me, not to talk about when you are being reminded of it each day. This was my predicament and each time I prayed to the moon goddess to help me. Nothing changed. She has been mute on me.My status as an omega made my family detest me, my sister Lyra hated me so much that she didn't fail to show it whenever she had the chance to do so, not to talk of my mother who considered me a disgrace. As if being an omega was not enough, I was born mute and I could only use signs to communicate only to those who were interested in listening to what I have to say. Because of this, Alpha Lumen tagged me as a cursed fellow and as a punishment, he made me a slave in the palace, tending to the needs of the royal family. Armed with m
