Davina’s POV
The silence in the room was unbearable but broken only by my ragged breathing. My head was spinning, my heart was heavy with everything I’d just learned. I sat on the cold floor, hugging my knees to my chest, staring at the door as if it might hold the answers I so desperately needed. “Why?” I whispered to myself, my inner mind was barely audible. “Why didn’t anyone tell me the truth? Why was I left in the dark all this while?” No wonder Lyra and her mother never treated me like one of them. I felt like an outcast. I leaned back against the wall, with questions flooding through my mind. Was my mother truly guilty? Did she really try to seduce the Alpha? Or was that just another one of Genevieve’s cruel lies? Where did she go? Will I ever find her? And what did she look like? Did I resemble her in any way? The thought sent a strange pang through my chest. “Does she even know I exist?” I muttered. “Or did she leave without a second thought?” My mind drifted back to my childhood, trying to gather any memories that might give me a clue about her. My father had always avoided talking about her, no matter how many times I asked. It was so sad and unfair to me. “Where is she, Papa?” I had asked once, as my small hands clutched his arm. He had smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “She’s… somewhere far away, Davina,” he’d said, I noticed how thick his voice sounded with something I couldn’t understand at the time. “Will she come back? Will I see her again?” He had looked away, as he tightened his jaw. “Some things… they’re better left in the past.” Back then, I hadn’t understood his sadness, his reluctance. Now, it all made sense. He’d been grieving, not just for her absence, but for the truth he couldn’t bring himself to share with me. “Did you love her, Papa?” I whispered into the empty room, tears stinging my eyes. “Was she everything they say she was? Or was she better than that?” I was going crazy. Before I could spiral any further, the sound of the lock turning startled me. The door opened, and there stood Genevieve with disgust and hatred covering her eyes. I could now understand her reasons for hating me. “Well,” she began, curling her lips into a smirk, “still moping, I see.” I glared at her, but the weight of my emotions kept me silent. She stepped inside, clicking her heels against the wooden floor, then she leaned against the wall and crossed her arms. “I’m curious,” she said, sounding scaratic. “What’s running through that little head of yours? Are you imagining your mother as some tragic heroine? A misunderstood victim of this cruel, cruel world?” “Why are you here?” I asked, glaring at her with anger in my eyes. She laughed like a maniac, that sent chills down my spine. “Oh, Davina, I’m here to remind you of who you really are. You’re just like her, you know.” I frowned, tightening my chest. “What do you mean?” “Your mother,” she said, rolling her eyes. “She had a way of causing trouble wherever she went. Always seeking attention, always tempting men who didn’t belong to her.” “That’s not true,” I snapped, trying to stand up but the pain on my knees wouldn't let me. “Oh, isn’t it?” she sneered, walking closer to me. “You think Malcolm’s father was the only man she tried to ensnare? She was a master manipulator, just like you. Always pretending to be innocent, but underneath it all… trouble.” “I’m nothing like that,” I said, holding my legs. Genevieve tilted her head, studying me with an almost amused expression. “Aren’t you? Look at you, clinging to Malcolm like some lovesick puppy. Do you really think he’d choose someone like you? A wolfless, pathetic excuse for a mate?” Her words hurt me, but I didn't let her see how it affected me. “I didn’t ask for this,” I said, as the voice in my head came out barely above a whisper. “I didn’t ask to be his mate.” “But you didn’t turn him away, did you?” she shot back, with her eyes gleaming with malice. “Just like your mother, always latching onto men who don’t belong to her.” I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. “You don’t know anything about me,” I said, closing my eyes to stop the tears from dropping off. She let out a harsh laugh. “Oh, Davina, I know everything about you. You’re weak, just like she was. And look where that got her, banished, forgotten, and unwanted. That’s your future, too.” Her words echoed in my mind, hurting me more. I felt like I couldn’t breathe like I was about to die. But beneath the pain, something else began to stir. Even if my mother was weak, I would not. I’ll be strong for her and make her proud wherever she is. “You’re wrong,” I said, staring at her now. “I’m not like her. And I’m not like you, either.” Genevieve raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Oh? And what are you going to do about it, little wolf? Cry some more? Beg for Malcolm to save you?” “No,” I said, standing up despite the ache in my body. “I’m going to find her. My real mother. I’m going to find out the truth about who she was.” Genevieve’s smirk faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. “Good luck with that,” she said, turning to leave. “She’s probably dead by now. And even if she’s not, she’s nothing more than a disgrace.” she finished and punched me in the mouth that my lips bled. I sank back onto the floor, sobbing. Her words had left me shattered, but they’d also ignited something inside me. “I’ll find her,” I whispered to myself, whatever it takes. “Somehow, I’ll find her. And I’ll find the truth.”Lyra POV “Lyra!” My mother called my name. “Yes? Mom. I'm in the kitchen.” I heard her footsteps walking towards the kitchen. I stopped what I was doing and turned to face her with my arms crossed under my breast. “You have to follow me to the Alpha’s house.” I frowned my brow a bit. She never told me that we’d be going there. “Mom, is there a problem?” She chuckled. “You worry too much. Just go get dressed. I’ll give you only five minutes.” she said, walking out of the kitchen. I widened my eyes, “five minutes?” “Yes, five minutes.” I looked at myself, huffed, and dropped the cup in my hands and walked out of the kitchen to my bedroom. Exactly, five minutes, I was standing outside, dressed in a black and white Polka dress, with my hair packed in a tight ponytail and black slippers. While I waited for my mother who gave me five minutes. “Five minutes, really Mom?” I said, eyeing her. She smiled and rolled her eyes at me. We walked in total silence to the Alpha’s hou
Lyra’s POV “Unbelievable!” Alpha Damian’s roar echoed through the hall, shaking the walls and sending a shiver down my spine. His fists slammed against the table, they sound like thunder, silencing both me and my mother. I stood a few steps behind my mother, barely able to hide my smirk as the Alpha seethe with rage. I totally understood him as Davina's involvement with his son was an insult to him and the pack. “A dumb girl? An Omega?” He scoffed, pacing the floor like a caged wolf. “How dare she? My son, the future Alpha of this pack, risking everything for someone like her?” His voice dripped with disgust. Genevieve, my ever-calculating mother, strolled forward, in a gentle but firm voice. “Alpha, it’s unfortunate, but I felt it was my duty to inform you. Malcolm’s behavior… it’s unbecoming of someone in his position.” Alpha Damian stopped pacing, as his piercing eyes narrowed as he looked at my mother. “You’ve done the right thing, Genevieve. This… this nonsense ends no
Davina’s POV “Get out.” I blinked, unsure if I’d heard her correctly. Genevieve stood at the door, with keys in her hand, she was glaring at me with so much mockery. “Didn’t you hear me, Davina? I said get out. You can go back to your room now. Although You have laundry to do.” Get out? The word hung in my ear, taunting me. For days, weeks, maybe I’d been locked away in this cold, suffocating room, I was just so desperate to escape. But now, staring at her smug face, I didn’t feel relief. I felt scared. I was back to the hard reality of life. To tasking jobs without food. “Why now?” My voice came out hoarse, but barely more than a whisper. She smirked and leaned against the doorframe. “Why not? Don’t think for a second it’s out of kindness. We’re done with you, that’s all. You’re nothing but a waste of space. Moreover, we have jobs to do.” I wanted to argue, to beg her to keep me still locked up, but I bit my tongue. The last thing I needed was to give her more reason to hurt
Lyra’s POV“Why is he here?”I stiffened, curling my fingers around the window frame as I saw Malcolm striding toward our house. He wasn't looking happy or even friendly. He was just walking as if he was coming to fight. My stomach twisted in irritation. I knew exactly why he’s here. That witch Davina. Of course, it was always about her. And that thought made me so angry. His father had warned him to stay away from Davina and he had agreed now he’s here. For days, he had stayed away like a good little Alpha heir, just as his Father had commanded. But now? Now, he is back? What for? Does he want to lose his inheritance? Does he prefer Davina over his position? Was he here to defy his father? This is crazy. Totally.I almost walked outside to stop him. To tell him to turn around, to remind him of his place in My life. But something held me back. No. Let’s see how this plays out. I thought. If Davina threw herself at him again, if she begged him to take her back, I’d have all the proof I

He wasn't smiling, in fact he didn't look happy to see me after days of absence. However, I tried to brush it off. Maybe it was all in my head. What mattered was that he had come. He was here. Davina's POV “Finally, I could have time to myself, sigh.”Wiping the sweat off my forehead, I took a deep breath as I reached out to my flute lying just beside my duffel bag which held everything I own. I was an omega; the lowest rank in the pack which was tough for me, not to talk about when you are being reminded of it each day. This was my predicament and each time I prayed to the moon goddess to help me. Nothing changed. She has been mute on me.My status as an omega made my family detest me, my sister Lyra hated me so much that she didn't fail to show it whenever she had the chance to do so, not to talk of my mother who considered me a disgrace. As if being an omega was not enough, I was born mute and I could only use signs to communicate only to those who were interested in listening to what I have to say. Because of this, Alpha Lumen tagged me as a cursed fellow and as a punishment, he made me a slave in the palace, tending to the needs of the royal family. Armed with m
Malcolm's POV “Mate!” I called, peering at her with widened eyes. The look on her face confirmed it too though she didn't say a word to me. For the next few minutes, I just stood there, staring into space as I tried to process what was happening. Growing up, my father had made me believe that my mate was Lyra, her sister and because of this, we were so close. But how wrong was he? “You're my mate.” I said in a question-like tone whereas I was just confirming what the moon goddess had done. Smiling at her, I took a step forward to close the gap between us but she took a step backwards, her eyes widened in fear. “Come on, you don't have to be scared.” I coyed, trying to calm her raging nerves but that didn't help as she began to dart her eyes around. Grabbing the hem of her gown, she began to look around and I was certain her mind was already running haywire with different ideas. “You shouldn't be scared of me, you are my mate and…” Suddenly, I pressed my lips together as I sn

I got curious.“Did you forget something, Mother?” I mindlinked her hesitantly. I knew she would answer me straightly but I never expected the response she gave me.She smirked her lips, and she let out a sharp laugh, one that made my stomach churn. Davina’s POVI sat up, wincing as the pain shot through my body. My ribs felt like they’d been crushed, and my face stung where Lyra had struck me. But it wasn’t just the pain that had my mind spinning. It was him, the stranger I just saw.Who was he? And what did he want? I just couldn't understand why someone would come inside here acting all strange. Did they send him to harm me? And he took pity on me? Or was I just imagining things? My heart had been beating so hard that I barely registered anything except the fact that he didn’t hurt me.I shivered, thinking about how weak I’d been at that moment. If he’d wanted to harm me, I wouldn’t have stood a chance. I wouldn’t have even been able to scream for help not that anyone would have come.
