It's been almost a year since I came back to the place where I can call home, my place in the city together with the humans. Bright lights, busy streets, fancy restaurants, fast cars and more people. Those are the things that I consider normal in my life, or in a life of an ordinary person living in the city. It's nothing compared to the huge and archaic palace where the wolves live. Where they follow the rules of one powerful being called the Alpha King.
As I stood on the balcony of my room, I took a deep calming breath from the cool air at the top floor of Hotel Blanca, which stood as one of the tallest hotel in the city. A place I can call mine, a place that is love by the people and as well as my mother who have worked hard to build it.
I try to focus on my work everyday but the image of someone still lingers in my mind, someone who I am trying hard not to think about and yet I always fail to do so. I kept telling myself I should forget about the wolves and move on. But something deep inside of me is aching and I am not going to let anyone know about this, specially the people who sorrounds me here everyday.
I have meet a few men but take no interest in dating, my priority is for my work and my colleagues at the hotel. The sound of my phone ringing in the small table inside the room stop my thoughts from going farther so I turn around and pick up the phone.
"Mom?"
I already know why she calls at this time of night, we have just talked about her visit at the hotel tomorrow morning.
"I just want to remind you about tomorrow sweetie."
"Mom, don't worry about it I remember. You just reminded me yesterday, and this afternoon right?"
The sound of her apologetic laugh is the next thing I hear on the other line. "Well you know we can't miss the event, it is important for the two of us out of all people. And don't you miss him?"
I let out a deep breath and close my eyes for a few seconds. "Of course, I miss Dad. I didn't forget mom, he will always be in my heart and mind. Don't ever doubt that."
"I'm sorry sweetie, I know we are both busy. That's why I keep track of all the special occasion like this so we can have a reason to celebrate together as a family. I'm sure wherever your father is, that he will be happy to see us together just like old times."
"Alright mom, but I do need to get some sleep now and get beauty rest to see Dad tomorrow. And you do too mom."
I heard her beginning to sniffle on the other line and if we continue talking about my late Dad then she would end up pouring like rain. Again I must cut off the call before she continues. To be in a state of distress is the last thing I need.
"Good night mom!"
She sigh and then wish me a good night back before I put down the phone. I don't want to dislike the life I have in the city now but I feel that there is something that's missing, I feel incomplete and I couldn't say why? Isn't this the life that I wanted.
Before I turned off the lights and close my eyes to sleep that night, the face of a handsome man visited my thoughts again. I rub my eyes and let myself to drift because somehow I know that I am beginning to dream. I continue sleeping and then the horrible creatures appeared from somewhere. Huge wolves with dark fur, long and sharp fangs that hang in their mouths, their eyes are the color of blood and they look at me with so much hatred and anger but I have no idea why.
"Stay away from me! Don't come any closer!"
I mumbled however, they don't seem to care about what I'm saying so I started running while I hear the sound of their footsteps following behind me. My heart beats faster with each passing minute and the sweat begins to break out in all the pores of my body. It does not feel like a dream anymore, I fear for my life and it is for real. I took the path which leads into a vast forest hoping it could help me.
My strength is slowly running out as I start to pant for my breath. The voice inside my mouth couldn't come out anymore, I can't shout for help. The loud growling noises begin to drew near as my knees grow weak from the run. Until I feel cornered in the middle of the wilderness with the tall grasses covering the lands, I feel surrounded. I realize that there are so many of them.
"What do you want from me?!"
I ask in a quivering voice, I know they wanted to hurt me as their eyes pierce through mine. They never said anything but they surround me, ready to attack. If I am going to die and lost my life today then I will have just one regret and that is.
"Ashley! Ashley!"
My mother's voice echoed though the air and I jerk forward from the bed that I was lying.
"Mom!? How did you get in?"
I look around and feel a little bit relief that I am just inside my room at the hotel, looking at the worried face of my mother.
"It is already eight in the morning Ash, I have been calling you and when you didn't answer I came straight here. I've knocked on you door several times but you didn't answer so I ask the receptionist for a spare key. Are you alright? Is it a bad dream?"
She sit beside me in my bed and look at my face with a worried frown. "I am alright mom, I was just sleeping and dreaming of something that it feel so real."
I remove myself from the sheets and got out of bed, I feel bad for waking up really late but my body feels like it ran for miles and the weariness is real. "Mom, why don't you go take a coffee in the lobby while I get myself a hot shower."
She look at me with a worried expression and her eyes travel through the night gown that I am wearing. "You are all sweaty Ash, I think a nice and warm shower is what you need. Meet me in the lobby when you are ready sweetie, and let's talk because if there is anything that's bothering you I am ready to listen."
"No mom, nothing is bothering me. It was just a stupid dream and it happens sometimes so no worries."
She sigh before standing up from the side of my bed. "Alright, I will go and order some breakfast before we head out."
She stand up and move closer towards me then hug me tight before giving my cheeks a peak and then leave. I close the door of my room and look at myself in the whole length mirror. The long silky white night gown that I'm wearing has traces of sweat on the chest and my hair is slightly damp. I feel weary and dirty like I have really ran for a mile but I know it was just a dream.
I hope that the shower would take away some of the troubles that I have this morning. If only I could tell my mother how I really feel, but I'm afraid that she would resort to taking me back in the Langston Palace as a precaution. She still believes in the goodness of the Alpha King for the wolves follow him and will not harm the humans in the City because of his order.
* Luna Ashley *I pace back and forth on the floor of our room creating a noise that everyone could here around me while I look at the door, we keep it open so that I could hear what they were talking about in the office down the hall. Maleficus looks at me with a reassuring gaze, while my mother sit still on the couch beside him."Your majesty, I think this will be over soon. Don't worry about Alpha King Vincent, he is capable of concealing his temper in order not to hurt those humans."I shook my head and watch the door again. "I wanted to be with the meeting but they won't allow me to."My mother smiled at me. "Sweetheart, just let the men do the talking for now. There is a peace treaty that needs to be followed but lately, the rules have been broken by so many humans in the city so maybe they have to make a new set of rules that will be applied to all."I nodded my head. Unlike me, my mother understood the legal process better. "They were talking for quite a long time. I want you
*Alpha King Vincent *"How is she?"The pack doctors smiled at me. "Good morning your majesty, her vitals are good. We are sure that she will wake up soon."I took a deep breath and look at Ashley, she look better now. I notice her rosy cheeks returned their color, she is also breathing normally. It is a good day, I am certain that my Luna will wake up soon.“Thank you for the hard work, you can all get some rest today.""You're welcome, your majesty."They bow to me once more before leaving our bedroom. I move towards the window and open the curtains wide. To let the rays of sunlight get inside is good for Ashley."Good morning your majesty, would you like me to bring you a cup of coffee?"Riza stood at the door of our bedroom asking me with a smile on her face. "Morning Riza, yes please."I heard her footstep descend while I lowered myself on the couch near the bed. My eyes did not leave Ashley, I can feel that she will wake up soon. A few minutes later then Riza came into the room
* Alpha King Vincent *The room is now quiet, as I have instructed all of them to leave. I stay alone watching her laying on our bed, I wanted to kiss her and talk to her. Hear her voice and listen as she whispers the words I longed to hear. I needed her, but she is still weak fighting the poison in her body. My eyes close as I leaned my back on the couch which I place next to our bed.I couldn't take it if she wouldn't wake up, the rage is fueling my fear as I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth. Now my thoughts are on the people who did this to her, the humans! Treacherous humans, I swear to the Moon Goddess if she did not improve I shall end their lives. Their family will suffer my fury and no one can stop me, I am the Alpha King, I will make them pay until the last person with a drop of the same blood in their veins."Beta Derek!" I decided to call my Beta in the mind link and ask him what is the situation in the prison. If I am to go there that old woman will not live to see t
* Alpha King Vincent *With the familiar roads and the trees beside it with the birds chirping as we passed by, I can feel a growing sense of happiness as I remember the land where I come from. I know the warriors with me felt the same. As we have been away for quite a while, most of us missed the familiar grounds more. And there is one person that I miss the most. My Queen Luna of the Royal pack, Ashley. I wanted to surprise her by coming earlier than what was planned."Oh, we're almost there your majesty. It feels like home already."Calib uttered while watching at the window of our vehicle. He is taking the steering wheel while I sat beside him in the front. The air and even the sky is familiar."It feels good to be back. I hope that nothing out of ordinary has happened while I am away."Calib smiled behind the steering wheel. "Maybe no, your majesty. Maleficus and Beta Derek are there so rest assured that everything is in place and the same as how it was when we left."I nodded an
* Ashley *After we succeeded in fighting against our enemies, the wolves in the Palace get busy for the preparation of Alpha King Vincent's arrival. Maleficus have also informed me of the upcoming full wolf moon to conceive an heir to the throne. Alpha King Vincent is an only pup and it will be better if we can have more children with us. There are only two days left and finally, he will come back with all the warriors who joined him on the journey to the West.I was about to get out of the room when my phone ring. There is only one person who calls me in that number, because I rarely use mobile phone. It is my mother. My hand quickly grab the mobile and put it beside my ear."Hello mom?"It's been a while since I last saw her. She must have heard about the travel of the Alpha King away from the Palace."Hi sweetheart, I called to let you know that I am visiting you tomorrow if that's alright? Maybe you are lonely since I heard about the Alpha King Vincent being on travel."The smile
* Alpha King Vincent *I felt his strength and the anger boiling inside his body as Alpha Xander crushed his heart in front of all the warriors and rogues, and before my very eyes. Everyone stared at him and no one dares to move or say anything even I was stunned for a second before I realized that I have to declare that the enemies have no more leader. Rio's eyes turned blank before his body collapsed on the floor creating a loud thud."Rio is dead! Long live Alpha Xander of the West who defended his territory with courage!"I howled loudly, echoing through the lands of the West, declaring our triumph and giving fear to the remaining enemies as they dropped to the ground and whimpered. They surrendered to the warriors of the West and to my warriors which survived."Alpha Xander! Are you alright?"Alex run towards him and hold his shoulders. His hands still hold the heart of Rio, but he crushed it strongly and then held his head high. Just like a brave warrior who won the fight."The
*Alpha King Vincent *"How dare you!"I feel enraged as the meaning of his words reaches my ears. Just when I was about to make a move, shots were fired against us. My reflexes were faster than the bullet when I jump away and dodge a dozen of them being rained down on us."No! You bastard!"The warriors are being hit! As much as I wanted to kill him but I needed to stop the snipers hiding above the trees. I must stop them or my warriors will die against the silver bullets. Damn humans!"Stop shooting you fools!"I have located two snipers above the branches of a tree not far from the place where we encountered Rio and his rogues. My movements are faster than the bullet they fired, for I took one man after the other, and then it makes one left."You are as good as I could remember your majesty! Still the fastest wolf in the land! However not fast enough to save the others!"My eyes turned red as I watch the warriors from the Langston Palace burn in the hit of the silver bullets shot th
*Alpha King Vincent *The air feels different, the winds that blow from the East will past the trees and the tall grasses carrying the scent of flowers and the insects that joins the course of nature. However, it doesn't feel normal anymore. Every day since I arrived in the West, I make it a habit to sit by the balcony and used my heightened sense of smell to get familiarized myself with the scent around me. And now I am certainly aware of the strange scents that mix with the usual scents that I inhale every day.My eyes squinted as I tried to look much closer into the tall trees. Calib who just left to run some errands is still in the mansion, I can feel his footsteps going down the stairs. But before he could leave, I opened the mind link to call him."Calib, come back. I want you to see something."I feel his movements stop and then he walks towards the stairs and back into the door which leads to the balcony. "What is it, your majesty?"His eyes meet mine when I turn around to see
* Luna Ashley *Before the sun bid goodbye to the forest of the Langston Palace and took away the rays of light that it bestowed for the day, Maleficus and Beta Derek decided that we show the enemies our strength. I stood behind them who fought hard to keep me behind the walls of the Palace, however as I challenge Beta Derek to either fight me or we fight together, the old man Maleficus insisted to follow my orders. We have a group of warriors already waiting by the roads so the enemies will be seen even before they enter the borders of the Royal pack. My heart is thumping loudly inside my chest as I am standing with my feet bare and only a house dress on. Hundreds of warriors behind my back and another hundreds in the front. We are all ready to shift and defend the Langston Palace."I hate standing here with you your majesty, waiting for the enemy to approach is not my thing. I should have stayed in the front roads to meet the first enemy who enters our way. This is ridiculous."Bet
