Chapter 254: A Genuine Devouring

As I fell on top of Dicken, his black tendrils scattered, allowing me to clearly see what lay underneath: a black, jellyfish-like parasite attached to his nape that could have been fused into his flesh, though it appeared more likely to have grown out of it. Even as Dicken was choking me, I managed to press my knees down on his tail and seize the flailing tentacles.

The tentacles started to secrete black, thick goo even as I bellowed furiously, “Get off! Give Dicken back to me, you disgusting poo!”

“Give him back! Give him back! Give him back!” I repeated hatefully, my tears pouring from my eyes and into Dicken’s. Even so, his eyes were locked on me and held no sentiment, and those dark pupils seemed bent on consuming everything.

I suddenly realized that every tear I had ever shed since I could remember had been shed for him, and never for anyone else or even myself. Even so, my tears were not affecting Dicken emotionally at all—did I just imagine that split second of hesitation j
