CHAPTER 2

Sofia left Master Carlos’ office feeling very uneasy. She always welcomed big jobs but lately it seemed like their targets were more prepared when they came to assassinate their targets. She could feel her brain calculating the odds that there was a spy in their mist, and she was ready to find out who is behind all their troubles. Sofia walked down the hallway and came face-to-face the Blade Runner, captain of the killer squad.

“Sofia…” He said dragging her name on his lips.

“Adrian, don’t you look glad to see me.” Sofia said as she stepped back to take a good look at his face because he was taller than her.

“You have been avoiding me these days, everyone can see it.” He said with a disturbed expression on his face, something he always did when he was upset about something.

“When did you start caring about what people say? I didn’t take you for that type.” Sofia said, sounding very annoyed with the conversation.

“We are not children anymore but sometimes it feels like we are playing hide and seek with each other.”

“I have a life to live, and my world nor universe doesn’t revolve around you.” Sofia said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

The Blade Runner sighed and moved closer to Sofia and quickly grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her towards him in a tight hug, “I miss you Sofia, why are you treating me like a stranger?”

Sofia remained in his embrace just for two seconds more before forcefully pushing his body away from hers, “Adrian, you are not a stranger, but I remember telling you years back that there will come a time where this connection would be put to test and I feel that, that time is finally here.”

Adrian brushed his is fingers through his hair and punched the wall on his right, “Why do you have to be so stubborn? Why can’t you act like any average woman, who is tender?”

“Tender? Are you messing with me right now Adrian? I am a female assassin, and you expect me to show tenderness? You are definitely barking up the wrong tree if that what you think I’m ready to give you!” Sofia said as she forced herself to remain calm in this nerve-racking situation.

“Why can’t you do it for me Sofia?” Adrian asked, looking lost and slightly bleeding on the hand he used to punch the wall.

“If we were on a mission, would you fight the battle for me even if you were completely outnumbered and close to death?” Sofia asked him as she stepped closer to him, and Adrian could only remained quiet as hesitated before speaking again.

“Sofia… I”

“That’s enough for me to know how you truly feel and besides get your hand bandaged or something. I need to go because I had prior arrangements before bumping into you here.”

“This conversation isn’t over Sofia.” Adrian said, trying to touch Sofia but she avoids his touch.

“Master Carlos is waiting, since I finished early you can go in early too and ring the other two captains. As for this conversation it is done and dusted, as she said her final words she moved away from Adrian’s view and walked pasted him and continued her journey down the hallway to the training grounds to meet her Squad.

Sofia arrived and saw them lounging around like they were on vacation. She cracked her knuckles and pulled out a bo-shuriken (ninja throwing spikey tool) at Wyatt who had his back against the wall with his eyes closed. The bo-shuriken landed on top of his head, pinning his dreadlocks to the wall.

“What the actual hell.” Wyatt said as she opened his eyes startled by the sound and contact of his hair and the object.

“I didn’t know that the training ground was a place for you to laze around.” Sofia said approaching her crew as their discussion quieted down.

“Captain, you are early.” Ronda said jumping down from the covered barrel filled with water.

“We were waiting for you and plus we didn’t think you would come here so early.” Alex said, instantly standing up from the bench.

“Well, surprise, surprise here I am ready to get punching and sweating.” Sofia said confidently.

“Let’s get started, she could have been here earlier, but it seems like she was preoccupied.” Alexia said as she put on the gloves and walked to the punching bag and starting punching the bag angrily for some unknown reason.

“What do you mean by that Alexia?” Becca said frowning.

“She was in the hallway with Adrian.” Alexia answered.

“Adrian? You are still with that guy captain? O’Brian finally spoke up looking unhappy.

“Arg! I hate that sinky bastard.” Ronda said.

“Why are we discussing my personal life?” Sofia asked, feeling unsettled for the first time in front of her crew, but she especially felt anger towards Alexia.

“It’s not so personal when you stand in a hallway speaking about your feelings for everyone to hear.” Alexia said giving the punching bag one more mean punch before holding it in place and placing her head on it. Sofia sighed from anger and the rest of the crew saw this, but they held their tongue. Sofia held her words and quickly changed the topic. She was not stupid to dive into the topic with Alexia. If Alexia did not play her part excellently on the team, Sofia would have already skinned her alive.

Yet, Sofia could not help but feel her patience was getting thinner each day and for Alexia’s sake that was not good news at all.

“We have more pressing matters to discuss than my personal life.” Sofia said.

“Finally, something more interesting to talk about.” Wyatt said as he unhooked his dreads from the bo-shuriken.

“Hold up captain, are we going to discuss your meeting with Master Carlos?” Mica asked, sounding extremely jolly.

“Yes, but before that do you guys remember the big assignment we were given when we first became a team?” Sofia asked as she waited to see if their memories would come alive.

“Wait, you not talking about the Micco Mafia are you?” Ronda said looking disturbed.

“Oh, somebody please shoot me.” Becca shouted out dramatically.

“Yes, that is what I am referring to.” Sofia said sternly.

“We almost died during that assignment.” O’Brian added.

“What are you all? Sissy’s” Alexia said as she turned to face them.

“All of you just shut the hell up for once and listen.” Sofia said her eyes throwing daggers at Alexia.

“Fine we are listening.” Alex said.

“Master Carlos said that they are going to select one of our squads to take on Don Russo. I don’t know him, but I am sure Becca can help with that.” Sofia said and Becca looked pale as snow her eyes widen at that name.

“What! Hell no, I am not doing this.” Becca said moving back.

“What the hell are you so afraid of?” Alexia asked, smirking.

“I second that.” Mica added.

“You seriously don’t know that tycoon? He controls the entire Cerberus.” Becca said.

“How the hell can one man control our entire planet?” Wyatt said doubtfully.

“I second that.” Ronda added.

“He has his business installed everywhere but he lives in here in Orthus, it is said that he battles with control over another unknown Don.” Becca said, not being able to breath properly.

“Okay, Becca just calm down now we understand you.”  Mica said.

“Well, if that’s the case then we are as good as dead.” O’Brian laughed bitterly.

“Is it me or does it feel like the council wants to kill us off by sending us on dangerous assignments?” Alex said looking very thoughtful.

“If that’s the case then we need to make sure we don’t die. Carlos did mention something about him being notorious anyways continue whatever it was you all were doing I need to go somewhere. I’m not in the mood for training.” Sofia said and turned away from her crew and walked away from the training ground.

Sofia was fuming with anger because Alexia chose to disrespect her authority in front of everyone. She should have known better than to accept a challenge issued by a captain from another team. Alexia is lucky that she had interfered because Sofia has faced Bianca before and knew how dirty she fought and when she would execute a deadly blow. Sofia was on her way to the hallway for all the captain’s bedroom when she heard hurrying footsteps behind her until the hand touched her right shoulder. Sofia stopped and slightly turned her head to look at the person who dared touch her without her permission, only to see Adrian. “What do you want Adrian?’ Sofia asked him, as she turned to fully face him. “Sofia, why did you have to do that?’ He asked her. “What are you referring too?’ Sofia threw the question right back at him knowing exactly what he wanted to hear from her. Adrian sighed as his hands rose to hold Sofia on her shoulders. “I know she bro

Alice was down at the home gym punching the punching bag. Although her brother is a Don, he had made it clear that he didn’t want her in that life. Alice felt that they were just a bunch of sexist people because they felt she was too soft to handle a fight. Giovanni’s mafia did not have any females, according to him it was unnecessary because they would be of great inconvenience. Alice thought it was bullshit because she believed that women could do a lot of things easier than men. She continued to punch the bag, but her punches did not have much of an impact. The door to the gym suddenly open and Antonio walked in and spotted her. She turned around at the sound of the door opening and saw her brother, Alice sighed at his presence and turned back to her punching. “You are never going to improve with such small blows.” Antonio said in a mocking tone. “You and Gio are probably happy about that.” Alice said frustrated. “Alice, you know that Gio just want

Bianca rolled her eyes at them and continued down the hallway without throwing a comment for the first time.“Please accept my apology.” Alexia said as she attempted to kneel.“Don’t bother Alexia. The following day Alice was couped up under her duvet because she refused to leave her bed unless absolutely necessary. She still wanted to learn how to fight in order to defend herself, but she didn’t think that she had in her to kill someone the way that woman had done yesterday. A knock came from sounded from the door and she sighed because she knew that it was finally time to go back to the real world before her brother dragged her out by force. Alice got off her bed and strolled to the door and opened to see Luca standing there. She didn’t know whether to hide or run from him. Sofia awoke to the faint light of dawn creeping through the small window in her room, her body still aching but no longer burning with the searing pain from the capsule. The remnants of the drug lingered in her veins, leaving her weak, but she felt stronger than the night before. The haze that had clouded her mind had lifted, replaced by a sharp awareness of her surroundings. She shifted slightly in bed, her movements slow and deliberate. Her muscles protested with every effort, but she managed to sit up. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light, she noticed Alex sitting at the foot of her bed, slumped in a chair, his head resting against the wall. He must have stayed the entire night, she thought, her gaze softening for a brief moment. The exhaustion on his face was clear, even in his sleep. She didn’t want to wake him, but there were matters to attend to. They had lost precious time, and now they needed to prepare. Don Russo wasn’t going to wait for them to recover. With a quiet sigh,

Alex kept his arm firmly around Sofia's waist as they made their way through the maze of corridors, his grip steady despite the turmoil swirling inside him. Sofia's breathing had become shallow, each step a clear strain as the effects of the capsule took full hold. She was trembling slightly, her body fighting against the drug that was sapping her strength.Sofia hated this. Every inch of her body ached with the betrayal of her own muscles, the burning sensation spreading like wildfire through her veins. She tried to focus on walking, to maintain some semblance of control, but each step felt heavier than the last. Her vision blurred, and she stumbled, her weight shifting precariously into Alex's arms."Easy," Alex murmured, tightening his grip to steady her. His voice was soft, but there was a tension there—worry he couldn’t hide."Don't... don't treat me like I'm helpless," Sofia muttered, her voice weaker than she intended. She didn’t want him, or anyone for that matter, to see her l

The tension in the room was suffocating as Sofia struggled to maintain her composure. Her body was weakening quickly, but her mind was still sharp enough to catch the subtle glances and whispers among the assassins in the hall. She could feel the weight of their distrust bearing down on her. They were looking for a flaw, a crack in her defences that would confirm their suspicions.Alex stood close by, his arms crossed as he kept his eyes locked on Alexis. The venom in her gaze hadn’t lessened, and it was clear she wasn’t convinced that Sofia’s return was as simple as it appeared. The tension between them was palpable, an unspoken challenge hanging in the air, waiting for someone to make the first move.Master Carlos, sensing the brewing conflict, stood from his seat and walked toward Sofia. His expression was calm, but his eyes carried the weight of years spent leading assassins—he had seen betrayals, mistakes, and death far too often. He stopped just a few feet in front of her, his ga

It can’t be as bad as you two not getting along” Arthoro replied with a bright smile.“Stop that.” Sofia frowned more while Alex just whined at the driver’s seat.“What are you talking about?” Arthoro said, playing dumb“Why are you smiling like that?” Sofia asked.“Time is very precious, so can we be on the road already? We don’t want someone spotting you here.” Alex finally spoke up. We will have a gathering with potential people soon because as far as I am concerned. You will not win this trial against Alex.” Madam Lee leaned back on her chair. “Why not?” Alexis asked, feeling a little offended. “Why do you think he was so bold to speak up today?” “Isn’t he always this bold?” Madam Lee sighed as she rose from the chair. “Do you really believe that is the only reason for his actions? “Exactly what I mean Madam Lee. Sometimes Alexis doesn’t think with her head, so how can she lead a team of assassin’s with just a trait.” Alex said truthfully not just because this was Sofia’s plan, but he genuinely thought that she still had a long way before she could lead anyone. “Alex, you have never liked my presence in the team, and you are taking this opportunity to slander me.” Alexis said angrily. “I have to agree with Alex there, he is more of a right-hand man than you are to your captain Alexis.” Bianca said and everyone moved their head’s around to see where she was speaking from. “Thank you, Bianca.” Alex said and sat down. “From everyone’s observation of Alex, do you agree with his opinion?” Master Carlos asked the audience. “I have to agree with Alex too because we all saw that he was the best candidate for vice-captain but unfortunately Alexis stole that position.” Max the captain from the War Squad said confidently.

Alex had already arrived at Sofia’s place, and he was sitting on the couch, watching her sleep soundly. For as long as he has known her she hardly slept so peaceful, so he decided to take this opportunity to admire her peaceful face. Alex was beyond relieved when Arthoro called last night to tell him that she was okay. Even though Sofia has rejected his affection for her countless of times, he still values her life more than anything. He knew for a fact that if she had not been found, he was going to make Alexis pay because she was the one who caused the mess in the first place. Sofia wined and groaned while her eyes were still closed, and Alex quickly stood up so he could see if she was in any kind of pain. He rushed onto the bed, trying his very best not to wake her but he failed miserably because she suddenly jolted from the bed, hand aiming at his throat, but he managed to stop her just in time. “I was so wrong about you sleeping peacefully.
