I looked at him skeptically. “A rogue werewolf from Avilvale? Even keeping my alpha nature from them, I don’t see them being too happy about that.”

“There will be those who will have an opinion,” Ferrin said casually. “But not all of them will hold it against you once they meet you. The council isn’t full of old lycans who are stuck in their ways. We have several that are around my age or have always been on the more progressive side, like my father and me.”

“Like Lady Boucher?” I asked, not entirely successful in hiding the bitterness in my voice. I don’t know why she kept popping into my head since I had met her in the hallway. She just made me feel off.

“No, the Boucher family tends to lean toward the old ways where lycans’ status was definitively superior.”

“I’m surprised the council isn’t insisting you mate with her,” I said.

Ferrin made a face. “They know any chance of that ever happening died a long time ago.”

“What do you mean?” I pulled away, jealousy spiking through me. “Ferrin, is she your ex?”

He tried to arrest his reaction to my question, but not before I caught a glimpse of it.

“She is,” I exclaimed. I pushed past him, yanking the bedroom door open to go back into the living area. “I knew it. That’s why she thinks she’s so much better than me. And who could blame her, knowing that the council would rather she be Luna than some lowly werewolf that couldn’t even make it in a pack.”

“Willa,” Ferrin said, close on my heels, “we were only together for a short time when we were young. Yes, at the time, my father had thought of proposing a possible match between us someday. And yes, I had a certain infatuation with her when I was a kid. But that disappeared very quickly.”

I snorted. “I find that hard to believe. She’s gorgeous. She’s the prettiest woman I’ve ever seen.”

Ferrin let out a laugh that did nothing to calm my anger. He grabbed my arm and tugged me against him aggressively, kissing me hard and demanding.

“She is nothing compared to you, Willa,” he growled against my lips. “You are strong” — he tugged the buttons of my dress open — “and brave” — his hands moved under the fabric, gliding across my skin — “and kind” — his mouth traveled down my throat — “and so fucking smart.” He knelt down before me, pushing the dress open further, kissing down my chest to my belly. “You are the most strikingly beautiful creature I’ve ever seen.”

“Ferrin,” I breathed out, arousal pooling in my core, my anger and jealousy long gone.

“Every inch of you brings me more pleasure than I could have ever imagined,” he continued, moving a hand between my thighs, soliciting a groan from me. “I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anyone in my life.” I gasped as he deftly moved my panties aside and slipped inside of me. “More than I ever thought I could possibly want someone.”

He began moving his fingers in and out of my entrance. I groaned as the pleasure began to grow. With his other arm supporting me, he pushed me back a few inches until I hit something solid. He roughly yanked my panties off while lifting me up to sit on the back of the couch, throwing my leg over his shoulder and diving between my legs.

I cried out at the sudden onslaught of sensations. Grateful his arm was still wrapped around my waist to hold me up. His tongue moved skillfully through my folds, stimulating my clit in the exquisite way that he did. My hand gripped his hair as he pushed his fingers back into my entrance, thrusting hard and steady. His movements were insistent and felt so fucking good I felt my orgasm closing in within moments.

“Ferrin,” I moaned as my back arched, my hands holding on tightly to his hair and shoulder to keep myself upright.

Hearing his name egged him on, increasing the pressure and speed of his tongue. My walls clenched around his fingers. Within seconds he pushed me over the edge, my cries nearly turning to screams as pleasure shot through my whole body.

His mouth left me as the strength of the tremors wracking my body forced him to hold me more firmly in place. But his fingers didn’t stop. Not until the last ounce of pleasure was wrung from me, and I was almost pushing him away, my senses overwhelmed.

I was panting hard, and a thin layer of sweat glistened on my skin. Ferrin licked and nipped his way back up my slackened body, taking my mouth in a deep and passionate kiss, leaving us both as breathless as the other.

“I will spend the rest of my life worshiping your body, Willa,” Ferrin said. “Making sure you always know exactly what you do to me.”

I felt his hard length pressed against my folds, and my desire instantly spiked again. My legs went around his waist, and I moaned as I began to grind against him, my head falling back. He cursed under his breath, his mouth going to my breast. I started to feel desperate for him, needing more contact. I pulled his shirt over his head, pulling his body against mine once he pushed my dress off completely.

I ran my hands over him, licking and nipping and kissing my way across his skin. But it wasn’t enough. My hand darted between us, freeing his member in less than a second. He growled as I took him in my hand, pulling him closer as our mouths continued to explore each other. I felt him shift and whimpered as his length slid against me, teasing my clit. He moved along my slick, hovering outside my entrance. I found the spot along the curve of his neck, and when I thought he was about to thrust inside me, my teeth began to ache as my canines tried to push through. A growl rumbled from my chest as the urge to bite into his flesh quickly grew stronger.

As if he knew what I was experiencing, he suddenly yanked us apart, putting as much distance between us as possible while still holding me upright. He closed his eyes and turned his head, but not before I saw the blazing yellow gold of his lycan. His breathing was ragged, and his jaw clenched as he fought to regain control. I worked to do the same, guilt creeping up as I remembered how he had just told me minutes before how important it was to him that he kept his promise.

“I’m sorry,” I said between breaths.

He shook his head with a low chuckle. “Baby, I started it. And having you respond to me so strongly… You wanting me as much as I want you… I lost control. I’m the one who’s sorry.” His breathing had settled some, and he was finally able to look at me. “Fuck, these next few days are going to be torture.”

I offered a sly smile. “I could always stop showering and brushing my teeth. Maybe wear a sack until the dinner.”

“Babe, I think you’d even make a sack look sexy,” he replied with a laugh.

That was good to know. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his waist, just enjoying the proximity for now. Looking back up at Ferrin, I noticed the slightly glazed look he gets when someone is mind-linking him. A mischievous grin spread across his face, and as soon as the communication was severed, he looked back at me.

“You should go get cleaned up. There’s someone you need to meet.”

I chuckled as her shoulders fell with a sigh, giving me a disappointed look.“Oops,” I said with a shrug, not even about to hide my grin.“If you keep this up, I’m going to run out of things to wear real quick,” she said, shoving my arm playfully.“That’s not exactly an incentive to be more careful,” I replied.“Ha ha,” she said. “But I don’t have any…”I stopped her with a look.“Miranda.” She caught on quickly, shaking her head with a grin.“I told her to put everything in your room for now. Not long after Ferrin left, Miranda came in with a load of groceries to stock our little kitchen. She also gave me my phone. Apparently, one of the border guards found it in the woods where Ferrin “saved” me from the attack because it was ringing non-stop. Austin swung by and picked it up before heading back to the castle behind us.It was dead by now, so I popped it on the charger before helping Miranda make some sandwiches. I convinced her to stay and eat with me, knowing she probably hadn’t taken a break all day.“So, what are you going to do with your extra week of paid vacation,” I asked, moving on to my second sandwich after inhaling the first. I definitely must have been healing faster because I was starving.Miranda laughed. “Ferrin said you insisted he gave me a raise. Although it was entirely unnecessary.”“It was absolutely necessary. So, I was probably just overreacting.I climbed out of bed and made my way through the joining bathroom and through to Ferrin’s bedroom. I stood at the kitchen sink and finished washing the dishes from dinner. My father started to snore softly in his chair in the next room, and a smile tugged at my lips. This was a typical night for us. We'd make dinner, talk about our day, then one of us would clean up. When it was my turn, Dad would read in his chair but was always asleep by the time I was done.Just the two of us.I put the last of the dishes away and hung the towel on the oven handle. I went to the living room and rested a hand on Dad’s shoulder, gently nudging him. He jerked awake as I knelt by his chair, resting an elbow on the arm and my chin in my hand, looking up at him with a grin.“Did you get any further in that book?” I chuckled.“Ha.” He lifted the book from his lap, placing the bookmark in its spot and closing it. “I suppose I didn’t.”“You’ve been on this one for two weeks,” I said, plucking it out of his hand while I stood. I returned it to the small shelf in the corner.“I’ll get it done eventually,”

My chest was swollen with pride in my mate. All I wanted to do was get her behind closed doors and show her how damn perfect she was. I was annoyed that Desiree had the audacity to speak to her Luna the way she had. By all rights, I should have been pissed. And I was at first. But after watching Willa eviscerate her in such a concise, effective, and tactful way, I couldn’t bring myself to care that much anymore.I thought back to that night I had imagined what would happen when the two of them met. I was in no way disappointed. And now, knowing Willa’s skill in a fight, Desiree would learn quickly not to disrespect my mate again. We finally made it to our private quarters, but we still had an entourage that I only felt a little guilty about wanting to get rid of as soon as possible. But I really did want Rebekah to take a look at Willa’s leg. And Damen, Miranda, and I had to discuss what was going to happen next so Willa could get an idea of what to expect over the next few days.My q
