Eighteen years ago;

"Let's go, D, or we'll be late!" my mom scolded, hurrying me along. I scoffed and quickly put on my flops, following her. My mom, a poor omega, had to work as a servant in the human world to survive after my dad abandoned her ten years ago when she was pregnant with me.

"Mama, why are we hurrying? It's still 5:00 a.m.," I whined, rubbing my sleepy eyes. My mom laughed and hurried me along, "We need to clean the house before the alpha gets angry. You have to start fast so you can get to school early."

"Mama, I can drop out to help you with the bills. We don't have to work for the mean alpha anymore," I urged. My mom gave me her usual disapproving look and hit my head with the back of her hand, "You need a proper education, D."
