Chapter 2 - Rejection

Carrie POV

I watched as he started to move towards me, but his Beta put his hand on his arm.  Adam could not cross the boundary, or he would automatically be rendered rogue.  It was a mechanism put in place by the Wolf Council to protect rogues from unrelenting Alphas who wanted to destroy the rogue population.  Many rogues deserved the punishment but many, such as women who were rejected, became those same rouges trying to get away from the hell their lives would become as rejected females.

Standing tall, “I, Luna Carrie Parker, of the Blue Moon Pack reject you Alpha Adam Parker as my chosen mate and Luna of the Blue Moon Pack.  I, Carrie Parker, reject and cut all ties with the Blue Moon Pack,” I yell quickly to get the words out before he can stop me.

I see him fall to his knees in pain, while the rage that crosses his face intensifies.  “You will return to me at once, Carrie Parker!” Adam screams at me.  I see him grab his chest and I relish in the moments he suffers.  It is minimal compared to what I have been suffering between our relationship and his cheating these past couple of years.

I step back away from his hand which is reaching towards me.  “If you leave Carrie, I will hunt you down for the rest of your life,” he snarls at me as he makes his way to stand in front of me.  “It cannot be any worse than the life I have lived these past two years,” I spit out to his shock.  His face goes red as he stands there.  “I have given you everything,” he yells while I stand there looking at him.

“You gave me nothing.  You abused me, cheated on me and I have had enough.  I deserve more.  I deserve my fated mate,” I say as I turn away from him.  “Don’t you dare leave me!” he yells.  I continue walking as he whispers the words I never expected to hear from him.   “I am sorry.”.

My step falters as I walk in shock.  I cannot turn around.  Seeing him begging will affect me.  It will hinder my resolve to leave.  I walk on as his screams of revenge rage behind me.  I start to run as tears roll down my face.  I have to do this to survive.  I need this.  No matter how terrified I am, I must continue to run.

My body is exhausted.  My wolf is absent.  I continue on for another hour but am so exhausted I trip and fall to the forest floor.  I have no more strength to move on.  I simply fall into a fitful sleep as I wonder what have I done?  Have I made a mistake?  Should I turn around and go back?  Nothing happens as I continue to sleep.

I am suddenly jarred awake.  Someone kicks my foot again.  I groan and roll over uncertain of where I am.  In a flash it all comes back to me.  I gasp and scramble backwards thinking Adam had found me.  I squint my eyes open and see a dark figure in front of me.  The forest is so damn dark I cannot make out what or who it is standing in front of me.

They kick my foot again, “Get up,” they growl.  It sounds like a she-wolf, but I am still uncertain.  I slowly move to my knees trying to stand.  It is a slow process as my body is protesting from the over-exertion from yesterday.  I had not run like that in a couple of years.  I had no wolf to help me get my strength back quickly.

The individual finally sighs and reaches down pulling me up.  My body almost buckles but they hold onto me tightly.  “What the hell are you doing out here?” the she-wolf asks.  I clear my throat; I am parched having drank no water in the time I had been on the run.  I could not scent out streams, so I had no means of finding water.

“I am running from my chosen mate,” I answer honestly.  The she-wolf looks at me.  “What the hell for?  This life is not suited for someone like you,” she growls as she lets me go and starts to walk away from me.  Knowing she was my only way out at this moment, I scurried behind her.

“What are you doing?” she asks angrily as she suddenly turns around forcing me to bump into her.  She pushes me away from her, but not before I see her eyes.  They are a stunning soft blue.  They contradict her rough exterior.  “What are you doing out here?” I ask her cautiously.

“I was kicked out of my Pack.  I am surviving, but I have no time to help a newbie,” she says as she turns and starts to walk away.  “Wait!” I say to her.  She stops walking but does not turn around, “I need your help,” I say as her body stiffens.

“Too damn bad,” she says as she continues to walk away.
