Carrie POV
I do not know how long we traipsed through the forest. It felt like days, but we had not even hit nightfall yet. I knew I was out of shape, but this was ridiculous. “I need a break,” I say panting to the two women. They both sigh, looking at me annoyed. “I need water,” I add hoping there was a brook close by.
Jessica led the way wordlessly towards the water. I raced around her dropping to my knees and scooping up as much water as I could. “Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Mandy asked as she bent down to lap up some water as well. Jessica stood there looking around us. “I do not like this,” she murmurs.
Mandy is immediately on alert standing and moving towards Jessica. “What?” she asks. “It is too quiet,” she says as Mandy listens and nods. I take more water before standing, “What does that mean?” I ask. “It means we are either about to be ambushed, or we have stumbled onto someone else’s territory,” Mandy says as she looks around as if she is spooked.
“It cannot be someone’s territory this close to us,” Mandy says. Oh Moon Goddess, please tell me we have not come back to the territory I just left, “We did not get turned around, did we? We are not on my old territory?” I whisper asking the women. Looking at me, Jessica replies, “No, that was in the opposite direction to where we are,” she says as I breathe a sigh of relief.
“Do not get too comfortable wolf-less wolf. We are about to get some company,” Mandy says to me as her and Jessica continue to scan and sniff the air. As she finished speaking, two mutts walked out of the forest smirking at us. “Well, well, well what do we have here? Three rogue females just for us to play with,” the bigger of the two says.
“You wish,” Mandy says with a scowl. “Oh, I want her,” the other wolf says. “I don’t know, I like the Alpha … she looks like she will be a challenge,” the first wolf replies. Looking to the two women, I realize they do not see me as a threat. I could run, while they fight but I know I cannot leave them. Even if I am without a wolf, I can still help in some way.
“And the wolf-less wolf. How peculiar. Where did you come from little doll? You smell fresh,” the first male observes. I do not respond and simply stare at him giving him what I hope is a fierce look. He bursts out laughing … clearly not as fierce as I had hoped. “Do not speak to her,” Jessica says taking a step towards the two male rogues. Mandy moves beside her prepared to fight with Jessica. Taking their cue, I move to Jessica’s other side ready to do what I could to help fight these rogues off.
“I love a good challenge,” the second wolf murmurs as he takes a step towards us. Before he can take another step Jessica jumps into the air her clothes shredding from her body as she tumbles with the rogue male. There are fierce growls and whimpers as they connect with one another.
Before I can focus on Jessica, the other male shifts and starts to stalk Mandy. He is bigger than her. She is not a match for him. I am afraid for her and move closer to her. She does not shift, waiting for the wolf to make his move. He takes a couple steps forward until he is almost standing in front of Mandy.
I wait to see what she is going to do. She continues to stare at the wolf, before she leaps towards him not shifting. I am confused and watch with despair as he bites into her arm before she can wrap it around his neck. Quickly shifting, she pulls her arm from his jaws and moves back starting to stalk the wolf.
She moves slowly around him, wanting to get to his back. I can see what she is trying to do, but so can the wolf. I can see him following her with his eyes, but he does not move. As she takes her chance he moves out of the way, and she tumbles with a loud thump to the ground. I am pretty sure I heard a rib crack under the pressure.
She whimpers as she moves to stand back up but before she can the wolf is there with a heavy paw on her chest. I am startled to see his wolf’s erection as he stands over her. I realize now what they meant by abuse out here. I would not let anything happen to Mandy no matter what. I move towards the wolf, behind him. He is so focused on Mandy he does not realize I am now stalking him.
He is trying to position himself so he can take Mandy. She is fighting to get out from under him but having no luck. He rolls her over and throws his weight on top of her. I needed to move quickly, or she would be violated in front of me. I move forward and pull the rogue’s tail with all my strength.
The wolf yelps and turns around on me growling fiercely. I step back not sure what I was going to do next. I take another step back as he leaps to stand in front of me. I see Mandy jump back up and leap on the rogue’s back. Forgetting me he starts shaking trying to get Mandy off him, but she is holding on for her life.
She digs her claws into his neck, slicing through his flesh. While it is not a kill bite, it is a painful death unless his wolf can heal him quickly. She digs in again and again, as the rogue growls fiercely trying to get her off him. He manages to get a hold of her scruff and pulls her from his back, tossing her against a tree.
I heard more bones break as her body slides to the ground. She is passed out from the pain. The rogue smirks as he shifts to his naked, human form. “I guess it is just you and me, now wolf-less wolf,” he says as he moves towards me.
Trigger warning – might be difficult for some to read. Does not end in rape.Carrie POV I stood there paralyzed in fear. The wolf in front of me takes a whiff. “I love that scent: fear,” he says with a smirk. He starts to reach out to me when he pauses. “Wait a minute; there was a call out a while ago for a reward if someone came across a blond rogue. She fits your description. But how did you end up with these two so quickly? Rogues do not welcome others so easily,” he considers as he starts to move around me. I say nothing, simply standing there. I can feel myself visibly shaking as he comes around to stand in front of me. His erection standing tall for all to see. “Yet here we are. You smell new enough. I wonder,” he ponders as he stares at me. “Nothing to say I cannot sample the goods, mind you. You are not pure. Someone’s runaway mate perhaps?” he asks as he steps closer. I take a step back from him starting to realize he is ser
Carrie POV He falls in front of me, reaching his hand out to me, his face a mask of fear realizing he is dying. I am frozen as I watch the man die. A man I killed. To save myself I remind myself. I feel someone’s hand on my shoulder and scream, not realizing it was Jessica. I throw myself into her arms as the horror of what almost happened overwhelms me. She smooths my hair out putting her hands on my face and looking me in the eyes. “You survived. You did it,” she reminds me over and over until I take a calming breath. “I killed him,” I say. “You did what you had to do to survive,” she replies. Nodding I was alright I look over to Mandy’s broken body and stand rushing over to her. We gently untangle her limbs and start to run our hands over her fur. As we do, she shifts into her human form. I can see that she has a broken leg and arm. I cannot tell if her wolf is strong enough to heal her. I feel tears fill my eyes, “There is no room
Carrie POV We had no idea what we were going to do or where we were going but we knew we needed to keep moving. Though we had made it this far, we did not trust that someone was not after us. We had heard various sounds throughout our journey to advise rogues were still looking for us. I had shared with Jessica and Mandy that there was an offer of a reward to whomever found me. It had terrified me but made Jessica more determined to get out of the forest. “We need to keep moving. They cannot find you or we are all dead,” Jessica says as she kept us moving forward. “What are we going to do now that we are here?” Mandy asks. This is the first she has spoken since she woke up. She was still limping, and we knew she was in pain, but she had kept up with the pace Jessica had set. “I will get a job,” I say to them both. They stop to look at me, “Doing what?” they ask with smirks. “I can work in a restaurant. I was Luna in our Pack. I
Elizabeth POV I looked between both women. Each of us has had to kill to survive. What the hell was waiting for us out here? Would we find peace? As if the Moon Goddess had heard my question, there was a loud pounding suddenly on the door. We all jumped. About to speak, a man yelled through the door. “Jasmine! Open the damn door!” he says. I mouth Jasmine to them both about to yell out when Jessica jumps up, “Sshhh, they are from my past. That asshole at the front desk called them,” she whispers. “Are they wolves?” I ask back and she shakes her head no. “So, we fight our way out of here,” Mandy whispers. “We cannot do that. We are in a human territory. They will continue to hunt us until they find us. The laws are different here,” she whispers. “Come on Jasmine, open up! The boss is willing to look the other way even though you killed his best customer,” the man on the other side of the door yells. Jessica closes her eyes
Carrie POV I freeze turning away from the voice. Is this really possible? That I have a fated mate? Someone the Moon Goddess chose for me? How could she be so cruel? I had just gotten out of a mess and now I was going to be tossed into another one. Maybe he would reject me so I could move on with my life. Assuming he would let me live. I hear shuffling around me, the men were moving to open the circle. “Mine,” I hear from behind me. Suddenly I am surrounded by the scent of chocolate and coffee. I slowly turn and my heart catches as I realize he is in fact speaking to me. But will he want me when he learns the truth? He is a perfect male. Blue eyes to lose yourself in. Dark hair trimmed short, a chiseled jaw, and muscles galore. I feel the wave of fear rolling over me. I am certain he can feel it being so close to me. He can likely hear the strain of my heartbeat. I can feel it bouncing out of my chest. He reaches a finger out to t
Carrie POV At some point I managed to fall asleep on my side facing the wall. It was a restless sleep, but it was something. The two rogues on either side of me had finally shut up. Since my eyes had opened the only sounds were the random moans from those who had been tortured. Would that be me soon, I wondered. I heard the door to my cell open and the smell of my mate hit me before he spoke. “Mate, I know you are awake,” he says to me. I hear him move closer to me, but I ignore him. I refuse to acknowledge this man. “Tell me how you came to be on my territory, and we can move forward from this,” he says as if he is trying to befriend me. I continue to ignore him simply closing my eyes feeling a tear roll down the side of my cheek. “You have to agree, I would be a terrible Alpha if I did not investigate you before I put my Pack at risk,” he says starting to get angry. I continue to lie on the bed curled up in a ball. I hear him blow out a
Jackson POV My Beta turns quickly stunned by my rage. “She will not give us anything,” he says in anger as he moves to kick the woman. I move at him, pushing him away. “When did I ever say abuse her?” I demand as I reach down to check the woman’s pulse. It is there, but not strong. I mind-link my Pack doctor to get here immediately. “Have you gone soft, Alpha?” my Beta sneers at me. I slowly turn to look at him. “Excuse me?” I ask quietly. “You found your mate and you seem to have lost your edge,” he smirks. I move closer to him, forcing him to step back into the wall, “The only thing I have lost is my Beta,” I say to him as I wrap my fingers around his neck. My Beta looks at me with shock on his face. “You cannot mean that,” he says as I look at him about to respond when the doctor rushes in with a nurse close on his heels. “What the hell happened?” the doctor asks as the male nurse leans down and checks for a pulse. He nods to the doct
Carrie POV I come awake with a gasp. I am confused as to where I am. Last I was being beaten by the Beta. There is a soft light overhead and I am lying on something soft. I am warm. I had been so cold, that I felt nothing when the Beta had beaten me. I was numb to the abuse and my silence only enraged the Beta more. At one point I passed out. His anger confused me. He said it was personal. That I would be sorry, and that they were coming for me. Could he know about my past? But how? I laid there for a few moments just taking in the sounds around me. I heard the sounds of a blood pressure machine. I heard other things among them someone was breathing beside me. I slowly turned my head to where I was hearing the sound. I find myself looking into the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. For a moment I was captured by their stare. By the scent of chocolate and coffee. As quickly as I was basking in the moment, I realized wh
