He walked ahead of me his footsteps seeming to be increasing with every step. He didn’t bother to turn back to check if I was behind him or not. Well so much for wanting to try not to be rude since this was not my house. But I’ve been here a couple of times, everyone in the pack has been. So I know my way around here easily, but it would have been polite to be led by the owner. But that’s right, this was Aaron we were talking about. He didn’t do polite.

Sighing deeply I slammed the door shut behind me, it creaked nosily before making a resounding noise as I quickened my steps to match Aaron’s.

“ Can you walk like a normal person?” I heave out tiredly holding my aching ribs as he is about to turn into another hallway. Again. Seriously, the guy could win a contest for speed walking. He pauses at the wall, hands in his pocket.

“ I don’t do slow poke” he mocked at me making my eyes almost widen. For one moment, I thought he had been teasing along with me. Which was impossible. Because the only thing Aaron did and did well is abuse and keep on his moody face. The guy was a literal iceberg.

But then he continued walking reaffirming my belief that I had probably misheard him. I ran up and was surprisingly able to catch up with him, he still didn’t look at me. We didn’t meet anyone on our way here, again, another reason I love this place is their down to earth personality. While in most homes had a live in maid, the Alpha and his Luna only kept a housekeeper. This was only because she had lost her mate and needed a source of livelihood.

“ So..” I started out slowly, this was because I wanted to ignore the ache in my legs. Nice house but too many hallways. This prompted me to strike a conversation with the biggest loner in school. “ Why do you want to see your dad?”

‘Good going, Adeline’ I reprimanded myself. Real original.

Aaron glanced at me, irritation clear in his eyes. He pulled out from his pocket an ear a sliver white earphones, inserted it into his phone and began to play loud music. Then proceeded to continue walking.

I stood there dumbstruck, my mouth opened agape. I put my hand to my mouth and make an audible gasp of outrage. Rude! This was the most rudest thing anyone has ever done to me. Still, he kept on walking even bobbing his head to whatever stupid music was being played in the earpiece.

I jutted my bottom lip out and trailed behind him, his social skills so needed work. We got to the large room where the meeting was being held. He stopped at the glass door where I could see everyone gathered at the round table from where I stood.

There gathered was the Alpha, obviously, his Luna, my dad the beta, uncle Jerome ,the gamma and a few elders.

“ The rogues are getting out of hand and their audacity is becoming something else” An elder said, he hitched his handkerchief over his face exposing the spider wrinkles lining his hand. I knew him as one of the elders we went to visit and give gifts every important festival, but I knew him better as the unsmiling elder. Since I could remember, his face always had spider lashings near his lips. I heard in school, he had gotten that injuries from a nasty rogues who destroyed his entire family.

Dad cuffed his hand under his chin, his brow wrinkled the way it did when he was thinking hard.

“ How bad is it?” he asked finally, darting a glance at my uncle. Uncle Jerome shrugged and opened the reports, his voice coming out in clipped tones.

“ They have attacked our fences, kidnapped some of our pack members and threatening to kill them if we don’t heed to their orders. In essence, it’s not looking good” Uncle Jerome said in one breath. I turned a startled glance at Aaron, he wasn’t looking at me but listening intently at the door.

A tense silence had filled the room and everyone’s head was bowed down. Pack members being detained was a huge issue, how come no one sounded an alarm on this? This means they kept this on the down low. I started to feel a bit silly for getting annoyed that Dad wasn’t around for my birthday, I started to feel every inch the spoilt brat Cecilia made me out to be.

“ First” The alpha started, his alpha energy commanding everyone to raise their head up and listen Intently. “ We have to get out members out of there. Even if we have to negotiate with them, our people’s safety is more important” he said.

Everyone nodded in agreement, the action coming out stiff and tense. I wondered how long they had been here for their body to react this.

“ Jerome will lead the movement” Alpha Cain said. Then in an obvious attempt to diffuse the still tense room. “ So what can we help this young pups with?” He asked fixing us a steely glance. I froze my stupid brain only just booting that they were werewolves and had smelt us far longer than we thought. In essence, they had known we had been eavesdropping all this time. Aaron doesn’t even bat an eyelash and walks in with his steps measured and I walk behind him feeling a little shy when all eyes are on us.

He lets himself into one of the empty chairs at the door, his earpiece long gone. I go to my dad scratching my head sheepishly when he gives me a questioning look.

“ They do make a cute couple” Luna Jamie said all of a sudden and I realized she had still been staring at us. Aaron ignored his step mother staring straight looking the epitome of the good son. Luna Jamie grinned mischievously,

“ That’s why I am thinking you guys should get engaged” she said.

I have never looked up that fast in my life, my eyes glancing up so fast that I think I have whiplash. Even the smooth as a river Aaron had his entire expression flabbergasted.
