ISABELLE’S POV
The air bristled with tension as I stared at Kael, he stayed kneeling in the thick snow, his expression cold and hardened.
His silence stirred something of a mix of frustration and fascination within me.
I let out a deep sigh of disappointment. "You’re breaking my heart with your cold demeanour, you know."
But still, Kael remained silent, not even a flicker of emotion breaking through his cool mask.
So, he’s a tough nut to crack, I mused, feeling a thrill run through me at the challenge. I let go and tossed my cloak and hand warmer at him. “Kneeling here to plead for your brother is pointless. You won't get what you want from the Emperor like this.”
Finally, he stirred him, his expression faltering for a second. Kael looked up, and his eyes met mine, momentarily softening as he took in my features. My wolf sensed a faint glint of admiration in his gaze before his face hardened, returning to his icy expression.
“What do you mean?” he growled, his tone clipped and sharp.
I felt a little bit of relief to have broken through, so I leaned in. “I’m offering to help you, General Kael. I’ll speak to the Emperor and investigate your brother’s case and, if he’s truly innocent, I’ll do everything I can to clear his name.”
His brows are knitted, clearly sceptical. “And what do you expect in return?”
Her wolf whispered with excitement. ‘Make this interesting. You need a physical connection to grow your mate bond.’ An idea sprang up in my mind, and I felt my cheeks redden.
‘You have skills in painting, leverage this advantage.’ She whispered, pushing me to request a bold deal.
I mustered all the confidence I could, my gaze meeting his with determination. “I would investigate your brother's case, basing my judgements on your brother's character.”
His back straightened, his attention fully set on me now. He stood up from his kneeling position, rising to tower over me.
My breath hitched as he gazed down at me, his dark masculine scent filling the air between us.
“I have one condition,” I drawled, my voice low with a hint of mischief.
“One condition….” He echoed, his brows raised.
I leaned in closer, standing on my tiptoes, my lips just inches from his ear, and whispered, “You would have to pose as my art model—nude.”
Kael’s face was masked with shock, his mouth slightly open as he registered my words. “No,” he snarled, shaking his head frantically.
“Oh?” I arched an eyebrow, crossing my arms over my chest. “Then I suppose I can't help you and you would allow your brother to die in the prison…” I drew it out. “You have three seconds before my offer is null.”
His eyes never left mine, his lips still parted at my daring proposition.
“One… two…” I mockingly counted.
Before I could say three, Kael closed his eyes and muttered, “Fine.”
Looking up in surprise, my heart leapt with excitement. ‘Victory,’ I muttered under my breath. I let out a triumphant smile, feeling a rush from my small win.
With a new sense of determination, I turned towards the entrance of the palace hall, my steps confident as I approached my brother, the emperor, seated on his grand throne.
Tristan looked up, his expression flickered with surprise as he noticed me striding towards the throne.
“Isabelle,” he called out, his voice echoing through the throne room. “I thought you were gone?”
I gave him a curt bow.”Yes, I was but I returned for a very urgent matter.”
Tristan's brows rose and I could see concern cloud his features. Before he could ask I spoke up.“Brother, I have a request,” I said, bowing my head respectfully.
“What is it, Isabelle?” He asked.
“I’d like to take your permission to investigate the case of General Kael’s brother. I believe there may be more to it than what’s been presented.”
The concern in his expression melted away with sheer surprise.“It’s unlike you to take on… serious matters. You, my carefree sister, suddenly concerned about justice?”
I hesitated, taking a few more steps towards the throne. “Perhaps I’ve found… a new interest, I was simply taken aback by the General's looks.” I whispered, my cheeks heating slightly as I thought of Kael’s striking face.
Understanding dawned on Tristan’s face, and he let out a small chuckle. “So you’ve moved on from Rowan to the Zeta?” He leaned back, nodding thoughtfully, his eyes swimming in amusement “Very well. I’ll grant your request, you can start your investigation.”
KAEL’S POV
When I glanced up at the Princess, my heart skipped a beat. Just gazing into her clear blue eyes and her hair almost as white as the snow was enough to weaken my knees.
I quickly dismissed my reaction—after all, I had been stationed at the border for months, with only the cold and the other soldiers for company. Perhaps I have forgotten the effect a beautiful woman could have.
But I knew about Princess Isabelle. I have heard so many rumours in the kingdom about her as an idle, frivolous woman who had been infatuated with Beta Rowan and chasing him.
And now her sudden attention toward me and my brother's case was puzzling, and I couldn’t quite trust her motives.
Why would the Princess suddenly pay any attention to me? What was her true intention?
A wave of cold breeze blew into my face and I broke away from my thoughts, remembering the reason I was here outside the palace. My brother’s arrest.
The whole case feels like a trap, especially since I hadn't been allowed any visitation rights. For hours, I knelt outside the palace, hoping to be granted an audience with the Emperor, but there had been no word, no summons. Isabelle's unusual offer was suddenly my only hope.
Still, I never expected her to be so audacious and her condition so daring.
When she leaned in and whispered that she wanted me to pose nude as her art model, I had nearly refused on instinct.
But now I had no other options. Even though the thought didn't seem right to me, I had to agree for the sake of my brother.
She's even more daring than I have heard in the rumours. This was not the same princess described by the court gossip.
As I stared out the palace grounds, the snow crunching under my heavy boots, I couldn't help but question what I had just gotten myself into.
But the part of me that wanted to see his brother free— resolved to go play along with the Princess's conditions, hoping I could make amends later.
And yet, deep down, I still wondered if there was something more to Princess Isabelle’s sudden attention.
ISABELLE'S POV“But there is something you must know,” Tristan said just as I turned to leave the throne room. “Kael’s brother was not only accused of assault, but he also publicly declared his intent to overthrow my rule.” He continued, his tone steady. My brows shot up as I heard the news, my heart skipping a beat. Rebellion was the highest form of treason in the Night fall pack and was also punishable by death. My wolf bristled, sensing how serious the situation just became. I let out a deep breath, quickly composing myself. “If this news is true,” I said firmly, “I wouldn’t hesitate to carry out the punishment for such a crime myself. No one has the right to challenge our family’s rule and go unpunished.”Tristan’s eyes softened at my words. “We don’t have conclusive proof yet, and there are so many holes in the case that don’t sit right with me.”My interest was instantly piqued and I took a step towards the throne. “Then let me go along with my investigation. I’ll find out t
ISABELLE'S POVAs we rode through the streets, the low hum of the engine, the only sound in the car.I glanced at Kael, it was obvious he was still tense, staring out the window with a furrowed brow as if lost in thought. My wolf whispered pranced, nudging me to break through his stoic prickly exterior.“What did you mean back there?” He asked, his voice filled with curiosity. I leaned slightly towards his warmth, my eyes glinting with mischief. ‘You need to play hard to keep his attention solely on you.’ She suggested.I agreed, a little mystery would keep him on his toes. “Am I beautiful?” I murmured, tilting my head and brushing my hair out of my face with a coy smile.Kael’s face flushed a deep crimson, his body stiffening. “I… yes,” he admitted, in a mere whisper. “Yes, Princess… you are beautiful.” Warmth bloomed inside me, my heart racing at his response. It was all meant to just be a game, or so I thought, yet his words pulled at something deep in me. My wolf hummed with a
ISABELLE'S POVMy eyes narrowed as I watched him lower his head as he admitted, “I did go to the club.”“And did you go alone?” I asked, my tone sharp and firm.He stammered, his face growing pale. My wolf stirred, urging me to press him further for answers. I could sense there was more to what happened that he wasn’t saying. I just needed to scare the truth out of him.“Levi,” I called out, my tone turned icy. “This is your very last chance. Your brother went through so much just to get here and see you, and we both know this prison is crawling with rats and cockroaches. If you don’t want to live like this and then be executed, you’d better be honest with us right now.”His grip on the bars trembled, his lips quivering as he finally broke down. “It wasn’t my idea. A friend… he told me it was a fun place, and I thought we were just going to hang out. I didn’t know it was a club until we got there. When I went in, I… I saw…” He swallowed hard, his face flushing red with embarrassment.
ISABELLE’S POVWhen we arrived at Rowan's house his guards gave me a curious look as I stepped out of the car.My presence here was already a familiar sight to them from the days I used to wait around, eager to see Rowan. They bowed with respect and turned prepared to notify Rowan of my arrival immediately. But there was a spark in my eyes as I announced, “I’m not here for Rowan. I came here to see Thane. Take me to him—now.”The guards froze, murmurs echoing through them at the sudden change. Just then, the door opened, and Rowan himself stepped out, a surprised look on his face that he hid it with a polite smile. But before he could approach us or say a word, I moved to Kael’s side, linking my arm through his. Rowan's eyes flickered with surprise, his gaze fixed on the link between Karl's and my arm.I pulled him closer, raising my voice cheerfully. “I’m so exhausted from the day’s events and would love a nice warm meal. Rowan, be a good host and prepare some food. Thane and his s
ISABELLE’S POVI was satisfied as Kael and I stepped out through the doors of Rowan's house. We have gotten the confirmation we needed: Kael’s brother was innocent of the rape and assault charge, even though the accusation of treason still loomed over him. My wolf nudged me with a sly suggestion, ‘You need to use this opportunity to extract more from Kael. After all, you had already solved half his problem.’ I smirked coyly, feeling a surge of confidence at the chance to take control.Whirling around to face Kael, I let out a casual sigh. “Well, I guess I have fulfilled my promise to prove your brother’s innocence—at least for the assault accusation,” I said, keeping my tone light but watching for his reaction.Kael's head snapped towards me, his eyes meeting mine filled with confusion. “What do you mean Isabelle?” He growled.“I mean, I'm done here. You now have evidence proving your brother is innocent of the assault charges.”“Wait, but we agreed to honour our deal once my brothe
KAEL’S POVThere was absolutely nothing I could do to shake the flustered feeling from Isabelle’s boldness. Her brash demands to have me in her bed were outrageous but she whispered them like it was absolutely normal.I felt trapped, not by her words, but by the intensity of her gaze as she stared at me waiting for a response. My ears flushed crimson, and an intense heat spread through my body, but I quickly quelled the fire, my jaw clenched in frustration. My instinct was to shut her down and end all of this. But I couldn't think of hesitating to deny her, not now that we were finally making some progress on the case.If Isabelle abandoned the investigation now, my brother’s life would be ruined, and I just couldn’t allow that to happen. For Levi's sake, I had reluctantly agreed to her terms, even though I was still reeling from the implications of her words. When Rowan offered to also help solve the case, I could see the reluctance in Isabelle's eyes that she was going to reject h
ISABELLE’S POVI frowned, turning to Kael, and asking, “What stories are they talking about?”Kael's expression darkened immediately, his jaw clenched as he muttered, “Just some fanciful tales.”The sudden harshness in his voice startled me for a moment. I still desperately wanted to press him further but decided against it, I could sense he didn't want to talk about the hidden stories.Since Kael was so hesitant to share the story for some reason, I guess I had to get it some other way. I was already intrigued and I had to know more about what the people were murmuring about.I turned around glancing at Rowan's stiff figure, my gaze flickering to the matrons still talking in hushed tones. “ Beta Rowan, what stories are they talking about?” I asked, my curiosity evident in my impatient tone.He raised his brows at me and I kept my expression stoic, our gaze clashed for a moment before he realised I was dead serious, he shifted uncomfortably on his feet, arms crossed across his chest a
ISABELLE’S POV Something about his presence stirred me. My wolf already intrigued. He looked like he'd been plucked right out of a painting, his features refined and simply perfection.“Are you alright?” I asked, my voice calm even as my heart skipped a beat.My body flushed with the same sensation I felt when I first laid eyes on Kael, a natural physical attraction I couldn't deny.Alan straightened, his pride untouched despite the humiliation. “Thank you, Miss. I’m fine.” He replied smoothly, with a graceful bow.I narrowed my eyes at the wealthy man, who seemed to take pleasure in tormenting him. Hiding a secret smirk, as I decided to put on a whole performance. With theatrical flair, I suddenly collapsed to the ground with a loud thud, gasping for air and clutching my chest like I was going to faint.l cried out, my voice trembling with false distress "The owner’s cruel words have caused my heart to falter,"The crowd gasped in shock as they watched me. Alan rushed over to help
ISABELLE’S POVRyker sped through the road, the wind hitting my face hard and then I was back home, I got down from his motorcycle and turned to him still on his bike.I could still see the restraint in his gaze and how he blamed himself for what happened as he drove away.“I'm a full grown woman, Ryker, I take full responsibility for all my actions. You should know nothing was your fault.” I assured him.His gaze flickered over mine with a curt smile. “Yes, Princess.” He whispered.“Thank you,” I whispered back.He gave me a single nod before he started the bike, fixed his helmet and froze off.Once he was in the distance, I turned around and stormed back into my chambers, my face flushed red with frustration. The events of the day kept playing in my mind like a haunting memory, each moment only making me angrier. I slumped onto the lounge chair and gestured for my maid to enter.“Do you know what kind of day I’ve had?” I began, my voice tired but sharp. “First, I get kidnapped by s
ISABELLE’S POVAxel remained tied to the bed, his golden eyes filled with defiance as he stared at me. I couldn’t help but admire his composure. He had nerves of steel, not even shaking or threatened by my position of power over him, and I leaned back unto the rickety table, twirling the dagger in my hand.“You know,” I began, straightening and walking towards him slowly, my tone light but with a dangerous edge, “for someone who’s in such a position, you are remarkably calm. I wonder… would you rather die a traitor or live as my loyal servant?”Axel’s brows furrowed, his jaw clenching tighter. It was very clear he hated the idea but I wanted to keep aggravating him to keep him talking so I could get any kind of information.“I’m being very nice and offering you a way out of this mess you got yourself in” I continued, my voice dripping with mock innocence. “Swear your loyalty to me, and I might just plead on your behalf when the soldiers arrive to take you away.” I smiled sweetly, tho
ISABELLE’S POVMy heart was pounding loudly like a drum in my chest, and a jolt of adrenaline coursed through my veins as the man loomed over me, his golden eyes blazing with a dangerous glint. I stared at him as the air between us charged with tension, our breaths mingling from how close we were as he leaned into me. We were so close I only had to lean in an inch for his lips to touch mine.My wolf reassured me in a low growl. ‘He’s not our mate,’ she warned. ‘But he’s dangerous. Be smart, Isabelle.’His grip tightened on my wrist, his strength almost unbearable against my already delicate red and raw skin. Panic surged within me, but I was no fragile princess. With every ounce of courage, I acted on my instinct without thinking of hesitating—lunging forward as fast as I could, I leaned into him and bit down hard on the side of his neck. My teeth sunk in until I could taste his blood on my tongue. He hissed in pain and immediately released me, his hands holding his shoulder. “You l
ISABELLE’S POV“Where?” I asked, my voice steady despite the panic bubbling inside me as I gripped the steering tight.“A motel. Outskirts of town. And don't ask any questions,” he snapped, leaning back in the seat, the dagger still resting on his lap, a silent reminder if I wanted to act smart. The drive was tense and silent, with my mind racing to assess my situation. The man's face was not familiar, and was not one I could easily place in the pack. Yet as I watched him from the corner of his eyes I noticed he bore a resemblance to the black-haired woman spy Ryker described earlier during his search. He was definitely the spy Ryker and the soldiers were searching for, and he was somehow manipulating his appearance. My wolf growled again, warning me to be very careful with this strange man.The drive was short and we soon arrived at the motel, the man leaned in close, palming his dagger, his voice soft but filled with authority and threats. “Check-in. Use a fake name. Smile like yo
ISABELLE'S POVThe streets suddenly started buzzing with noise and tension as guards in armour rushed past me. I frowned at the sudden change but Alan was already packed and waiting for me. I made to follow him when a familiar voice cut through the chaos.“Princess? What are you doing here?”I turned to see Officer Ryker, my former law teacher and the pack officer standing just a few feet away from me. His tall frame and stern demeanour were a huge contrast to the sudden panic and chaos on the streets.“I was just helping a friend,” I replied, keeping my tone casual. “What’s going on?”“We’re searching for a spy,” he explained, his sharp eyes scanning the crowd around us as he spoke. “It’s not safe for you to be out here,” he said sternly.Without waiting for my response, Ryker gestured for the armoured guards to continue the search and suddenly took my arm in his. “I’ll escort you back home.”Though I wanted to refuse, I knew I couldn't argue with Ryker, his expression was already
ISABELLE 'S POVMy maid approached me with a hesitant expression when I was at breakfast the next day. From her expression, it was obvious she figured out something about Mara. “Your Highness, I have news about Mara,” she said, her voice low.I immediately set down my teacup, gesturing for her to follow me back to my room as I rushed up the stairs. Once we were in my chambers and the door was shut behind us, I turned around bursting with anticipation.“While I watched, Mara snuck out and left the villa in the middle of the night,” she reported. “I couldn’t track where she went, but she returned just before dawn.”I raised an eyebrow, my wolf growling faintly in her mind. ‘I told you she's hiding something,’ she whispered with conviction.“I’m not surprised,” I replied calmly, though my thoughts were scrambled as I tried to figure out what was happening. I could expose Mara now, but that would tip my hand way too early and I wouldn't be able to find out the whole truth about her iden
ISABELLE’S POVMy heart was still pounding as I walked out of his door, I could feel his eyes on me as I walked away. When I finally returned to my villa my wolf’s voice echoed in my mind. ‘Alan might turn out to be another Kael,’ she mused, with scepticism.I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. I let out a low groan, hating the situation I was in right now.‘Alan isn’t like Kael,’ I whispered back, though a part of me wondered how Kael would react if he ever found out the truth about me and our relationship. My wolf chuckled knowingly, but I shook off the thought. ‘I’ll come clean when the time is right,’ I told myself, trying to convince both my wolf and my own heart. It was still too early to tell Kael about the moon goddess curse, I don't know how he would react but I knew it wouldn't be easy.My thoughts were interrupted when I approached my villa and I spotted the tall and peculiar servant I had bumped into earlier walking past the garden.Mara, I remembered the name. S
ISABELLE’S POV“It went smoothly,” I replied with a smile, as I took my seat beside him.Tristan’s sharp eyes didn’t leave mine. “And the negotiations?”“An absolute success,” Rowan answered smoothly. “The Shallow Land Pack has agreed to all our terms. The tribute will be arriving just next month.”Tristan nodded with satisfaction, but his focus remained on me for some reason. “Good. And what of the General?” he asked suddenly. “Did you keep your distance?”I blinked, caught off guard by the question. I hesitated for a second, shooting a glance at Rowan not sure how to answer the question. Before I could speak, Rowan stepped in. “You have nothing to worry about, Alpha. I’ll personally ensure that General Kael stays away from the princess from now on.”Tristan’s expression softened, though a flicker of doubt remained and then he nodded.I felt a surge of irritation at his questions and Rowan’s quick agreement only added to my frustration. I ate my meal in strained silence, suddenly lo
FREYA'S POVThe air in the delegation's camp was thick with tension as I reached forward and angrily dragged the treaty document towards me. My hands were trembling as I pulled out a pen and hovered over the paper with a mixture of rage and humiliation. The whole table was watching me with bated breaths waiting for my next move. It was the last thing I wanted to do but I forced myself to keep my composure. As I finally penned my signature on the document, my gaze shot up and landed on the princess with a glare. Princess Isabelle had won this round, but I was definitely not someone to accept defeat easily.“We’ll return home immediately,” I announced as I dumped the pen and rose up. I faced my envoy and delegates with a steely gaze. “The tribute must be ready by next month to honour my brother Tristan. And I want no mistakes.” Isabelle said.I whipped around towards her, my eyes burning with barely restrained rage. She held my gaze as she leaned back in her chair with a sly smile.I l
