ISABELLE’S POV
I walked straight to the palace, striding through the palace halls with a stern expression, my footsteps echoing on the polished marble floors.
I ignored the glances the guards gave me as I made my way to the palace throne room.
When I walked my brother was lounging on his throne, his sharp blue eyes lighting up when his eyes met mine.
“Ah, little sister,” Tristan greeted, his tone laced with playful sarcasm. “I heard how you have been so busy lately.”
I crossed my arms, narrowing my eyes at him, clearly unimpressed. “And what do you mean by that?” I asked.
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the arm rest. “ I'm just very pleased to see you finally putting your talents to use. Perhaps I should even reward you for your great efforts.”
“I don’t need anything,” I retorted quickly, with a dismissive wave.
Tristan smirked, clearly enjoying himself at my expense. “No? You would not even accept recognition for saving a homeless painter at a coffee shop?”
I froze, my expression tightened as my composure faltered for a moment. “How did you even find out about that?”
He didn't answer me, his sharp eyes assessing my reaction.
“Did Kael tell you?” I pressed, taking a step towards him.
Tristan let out an amused chuckle and shook his head. “No, I have other sources.” He responded.
“But….” He continued with a suggestive tone.
“I did hear you dragged Beta Rowan along for your little investigation on Kael's brother's case. Seems like you are not over him as you said after all.”
“Tristan..” I breathed sharply but he ignored me.
“Tell me, Isa, are you still hung up on him?”
I stared at him, his eyebrows raised as he waited for my response. His accusation actually hit a nerve, and my expression instantly hardened.
“That is absolutely ridiculous,” I snapped. “I already moved on from Rowan. Rowan and Matilda seem like a perfect match. I have no intention of causing problems in their relationship.”
My words came out way sharper than I intended, my voice rough. Tristan raised his brows at me and I could see he didn't fully believe me, he still thought I harboured feelings for Rowan.
I knew there was nothing I could say or do right now that would swerve his mind so I quickly turned the conversation. “By the way, I haven't seen the General in a while, where has he been these past few days?”
Tristan lips quivered with amusement, clearly entertained by this. “And why, dear princess, would you even care at all about the General’s whereabouts?”
I felt her cheeks heat up, my face turning crimson, but I quickly waved my hand dismissively, brushing past his question. “Never mind,” I muttered before I turned on my heel and left the room.
As I walked away, I couldn’t shake the lingering feeling of frustration. Tristan’s teasing and probing questions had struck a chord, but I was refusing to acknowledge it.
ROWAN’S POV
I watched Isabelle's retreating form from between books from my hiding space at the back of a shelf, my expression darkening.
Once she disappeared through the doors, I stepped out of the shadows letting out a huge exhale, my mind replaying the conversation I just overheard.
I brushed my hands down my tunic, pushing through the doors of the throne room Isabelle just walked out of.
My mind was still muddled when Emperor Tristan spoke.
“You’re unusually quiet,” He remarked, leaning back in his chair.
My eyes snapped up and I ignored the comment and got straight to the point. “I came to report on the investigation,” I said.
Tristan waved his hand dismissively. “We both know why you joined this investigation, Rowan. You weren’t concerned about the club’s operations; you were testing Kael’s loyalty.”
I nodded in response.
“Tell me, Beta Rowan, do you have any interest in Matilda?” He asked firmly.
I sputtered at the question, hardly expecting Tristan to ask me about such matters.
I cocked my head, “What do you mean Alpha?” I asked, my voice cautious.
“I mean do you like her?” I shot out, leaning forward as he waited for my response.
“No, I don't, she’s like a sister to me,” I said, my tone resolute as I firmly denied it.
Tristan nodded thoughtfully. “That's very interesting because Isabelle doesn’t seem to think so. She sees you two as a couple and is already matching both of you in her head.”
I flinched at the comment, a strange pang shooting right through my chest. While I listened in on their conversation, I heard Isabelle’s declaration loud and clear: she no longer had feelings for me. Yet her words lingered, leaving an unsettling feeling in my gut.
I clenched my jaw, my teeth grinding in frustration. I can't deny Isabelle's sudden focus on General Kael was unnerving.
It wasn’t just her concern as she asked questions about Kael’s whereabouts. It was the way her voice softened when she talked about him, the way her expression brightened when his name was mentioned. Her reaction to him only deepened my frustrations.
“Back to the club's investigation and Kael's loyalty.” Tristan suddenly muttered.
I shook my head, willing my thoughts to return to the investigation and the reason why I joined Isabelle and Kael to find the truth.
It wasn't because I was concerned about Kael's younger brother, Levi but because the club has been on my radar for quite some time. Tristan and I knew all about the club and its disturbing history.
Some Night Fall back spies had gathered intelligence revealing that descendants of the previous rulers of this territory before the current Alpha family took control, were using this club as a base to get close to the Pack’s higher-ups for information. Their goal was to learn the Pack's secrets and possibly overthrow the current regime.
The club wasn’t just a place for secret dealings—it was a carefully orchestrated operation by descendants of the old regime. They were targeting the Night Fall Pack’s hierarchy and rulers, gathering secrets to undermine Tristan's rule.
TRISTAN’S POVI leaned back in my chair, staring at the map of the Pack’s territories spread across the desk before me.Everything I planned came together perfectly just like I wanted. I knew all along that Kael’s younger brother was wrongfully accused, he never committed any of the crimes he was charged with.I had known the truth about the case from the beginning but I had leaned back and allowed the situation to play out so I could determine how loyal General Kael was.It wasn’t just a test of Kael’s investigative skills—it was the ultimate test of his family's loyalty to the pack and my reign.A shadow of doubt had always rested on Kael’s family because of their dark history. Years ago, they had been implicated in a betrayal concerning the former ruling pack and since then their family has been under scrutiny.Kael had passed the test and I was relieved to find that his loyalty lies with the pack, with this investigation he proved his determination and devotion to the Night Fall.
ISABELLE’S POVI rose up from the sofa with narrowed eyes, slowly stalking towards him, my expression hardening.I crossed my arms over my chest, our eyes locked in a heated gaze. “I saved your brother just as I promised I would. And now it’s time for you to honor your end of the deal we made.”Kael didn’t immediately respond, falling silent. He broke away from my gaze, his eyes flickering around the room, anywhere but at me.His usual calm composure was cracking, and I finally started to see the man underneath. I tilted my head, studying him carefully. I wasn't going to give up until he agreed to honor his end of the deal. He made a promise to me and he has to keep it.“Kael?” I pressed my voice firm as I took a step closer towards him. “So do you really plan to break your word? We both know you’re not that kind of man, or am I mistaken, General?”His younger brother, standing nearby was watching us intently, his eyes filled with confusion. He looked at me with wide eyes. “What deal
ISABELLE’S POVThe air was crisp and cold as I stepped out of Kael’s residence, the confidence I walked in with already cracking ever so slightly. I had laid all my cards on the table, pressed him for a response and did everything I could to make him give in but Kael remained silent and that haunted me. Would he agree to my bold request? My wolf remained calm, hardly bordered by the situation.‘Just wait,’ she murmured. ‘He’ll come back to you.’I took a deep breath as I slid into the car, wrangling my fingers in my lap with nervousness. I was trying to believe her and wait but it was harder than it seemed.I returned to the villa in a dark mood, storming through the halls, ignoring greetings till I got into my room and slammed the door hard behind me.I Ieaned unto the back of the door, anxiety building up within me. I gave myself a second before I swallowed hard, pressing my cold hands to my face.‘Just wait.’ My wolf echoed in my mind, her voice calming me down a little. I leaned
ISABELLE’S POVThe silence in the room was charged with electricity, and thick with tension. Kael stood at the center, his head bowed slightly, his gaze avoiding mine.Every single muscle in his body was taut and rock-hard. He finally looked up at me, his dark eyes smouldering, a dark storm brewing behind them. I watched him with a predatory smile, savouring the power coursing through me at this moment.“Kael,” I whispered, my tone soft yet filled with command. “You’re not going to keep me waiting, are you, are you going to honour your promise?”He looked down at my words, lowering his head, I held back a chuckle at his sudden shyness. This strong soldier, the general of the army that led wars and invasions, suddenly became shy in my presence. For a moment, I imagined he would reject me and bolt, but instead, he clenched his jaw and held his ground. I arched my brow at his reaction, my dark smirk deepening.Unable to hold back any further, I leaned in, close enough for my lips to g
ISABELLE’S POVThe room was buzzing with tension, thick enough to cut through with a blade. My hands rested on Kael, my heart was pounding uncontrollably in my chest.Red hot passion burned under my skin, urging me to lean into Kael's arms but I willed myself to hold back. His dark molten gaze bore into mine, a slight frown marrying his features. We hadn’t moved an inch since he leaned in and I turned away.My wolf was restless, practically growling in my mind with confusion. ‘Why are you hesitating? Look at him. He’s ready, you should take this opportunity and claim him.’But I remained frozen, my mind firm. I barely managed to restrain myself from giving in to the burning desire to let Kael kiss me but a single thought lingered at the back of my mind.I just couldn’t let this moment end up as something fleeting and impulsive. My plans and relationship with Kael need more than just passion at the moment. I needed him to be utterly devoted to me completely, beyond lust or affection.A
ISABELLE’S POVKael’s sudden dominance stunned me. His hands wrapped tightly around my body as he scooped me off the ground and into his arms. His palm cradled my face with a protective look that sent shivers down my spine, and when he leaned down and whispered into my ears, I instantly shuddered with need.He held my head like a beast and leaned down, his lips capturing mine. My heart surged as his lips plunged into mine, hot and needy. The world around us ceased to exist when he plunged, my lips parting for him. His kiss wasn’t just heated—it was consuming, like a fire raging with passion burning through my skin.My wolf purred, growling in approval. This kiss was different from any other I had experienced before. Kael’s sudden intensity started something within me, a fire I couldn’t put out even if I wanted to. My arms instinctively reached around him, threading my fingers through his dark short hair and pulling him even closer. When the kiss finally broke, our foreheads pressed t
ISABELLE’S POVI stood in stunned silence, the weight of Kael’s confession slowly sinking in. He suddenly declared wanting to propose and I was caught off guard. I never anticipated his feelings for me to run so deep, nor had I expected such displays of affection from the stoic general. My wolf sighed deeply. ‘He’s sincere, Isabelle.’ She whispered to me.I closed my eyes for a second, her fingers wrangled together as anxiety clawed at me. I was still very unsure of what I could say to him now.Kael just asked me to wait, to let him prove himself on the battlefield before making our bond official. How could I explain to him that I couldn't marry anyone in my condition? How could I tell Kael that I have been cursed by the moon goddess to have multiple mates?I watched him, his expression strained as he waited for my response, but I knew I couldn't tell him the absolute truth. Finally, all I could manage was a quiet sigh. “Let’s wait and see,” I whispered, avoiding his eyes.My wolf g
KAEL’S POVAs I returned to my estate, my mind was filled with thoughts of the upcoming battle. I was never nervous before going off to war for territory but this was different.I leaned back in my study, the maps of the Night Fall boundaries and military reports spread out in front of me.I stared at the paper with full concentration, analyzing strategies and enemy movements I should expect from the Shallow pack. Yet, no matter how much I tried to focus, narrowing my eyes at the documents, my thoughts kept drifting back to Princess Isabelle. Her piercing blue eyes, the confidence in her voice, and the warmth and softness in her every touch. Her confidence and thoughtfulness when she thought no one was watching, everything about her kept me enthralled and captivated.I leaned further back in my chair, letting out a deep exhale. I never intended or even planned to fall for her, in fact, I wanted the opposite.I had judged her by the unfound rumours swirling about her in the pack and
ISABELLE’S POVMy breath caught in my throat, but I quickly masked my reaction. “I am doing nothing of the sort, Rowan. I’m simply acting with what I see and observe. Perhaps you should do the same.”His eyes darkened, and his expression tightened. “Do you actually believe that I have any intentions towards her?” He growled, his frustration evident in his clenched jaw.Swallowing my unease for his closeness, I squared my shoulders. “Yes, Rowan. I do. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like some time alone without you following me around.”My heart was pounding from the tension between us, heavy and charged, but I refused to look down and walk away. His words hung in the air, heavy and dark. I stared at him, my mind racing. Why had he been waiting for me? What did he mean by what he was saying?Gathering my composure, my gaze flickered over him cautiously, “Tell me exactly why you were waiting for me?”His piercing gaze met mine and he stepped even closer, till there was only a single inch
ISABELLE’S POVI arched my eyebrows, tilting my head towards her. “And what is this matter that must be addressed?” I asked incredulously.I could see the envy shining in Tania's eyes and the clear irritation under her skin as she looked at Lila. She was going to find a way to bring her down at any cost, even if it meant lying. Her dark gaze shifted to Lila, her eyes narrowing with clear disdain. “This girl owes me something—an item that rightfully belongs to me. The necklace around her neck.”The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Tania with full attention. My expression hardened, and my wolf growled softly in my mind. ‘This girl’s arrogance knows no bounds.’ She snapped.I took a deep breath to remain calm, and then I cocked my head and asked, “And how does the necklace Lila is wearing suddenly belong to you, Lady Tania?”Tania straightened, clearly thrilled her plan to humiliate Lila seemed to be working. “Her necklace is a delicate piece, silver with a sapphire pendant. Lila
ISABELLE’S POV The intensity of his sharp look sent a chill down my spine, but I refused to let it show one bit. Instead, I cocked my head at him, arching my eyebrow and maintaining my composure. My wolf didn't stay quiet. ‘Told you meddling in his affairs wouldn’t end well. He seems furious. Are you satisfied now?’ she growled with disapproval.‘He’ll get over it,’ I shot back inwardly, not backing down for a second.Tristan stepped forward, his eyes darting between us, he could already sense the rising tension in the room and let out a light chuckle to diffuse it. “Then let’s forget about it,” he said, dismissing my proposition with a wave of his hand. The crowd began murmuring once again, their tones shifting.“It seems the princess has truly moved on from the Beta,” someone remarked.“Yes, she wouldn’t have proposed it otherwise,” another agreed.Once Matilda stepped away, the crowd eased up and dispersed. Rowan shot me one last look before he also turned around and walked away
ISABELLE’S POVThe murmurs instantly ceased, and a line cleared amongst the crowd as they quickly stepped aside for me to walk past all bowing in unison. I walked in with a tiara that accentuated my royal bearing, but as I stepped inside, I could feel Rowan's presence right behind me.I quickened my pace, to put some distance between us, but I could still feel him trailing close behind me, his presence frustratingly too close.I threw a sharp glance over my shoulder, my voice low but firm. “Why must you follow me everywhere?”Rowan smirked, unfazed by my question or my demeanor. “It would be improper for me to distance myself from the princess, don’t you think?”My wolf snickered, clearly irritated by his cockiness.I quickened my pace, determined to shake off the rumours that my entrance with Rowan would soon spark. I could feel the eyes of the crowd boring through us, I knew they would soon start gossiping about us being back together.I needed to escape him so I quickly strode tow
ISABELLE’S POV“You think you belong here?” one of the women at the head of the circle sneered. “With such an ugly dress? Did you sew it yourself?”The circle erupted in laughter. “Honestly, the audacity of some ugly paupers to show up to the palace New Year banquet in nothing but rags.”My blood boiled as I watched the scene unfold. My attention remained fixed on the group gathered near the bushes. At their centre stood a tall slender woman, with dark luscious hair, her voice sharp as she mocked a plainly dressed girl clutching a necklace.“You dare bring this cheap trinket to a royal ball?” she sneered, yanking the necklace from her hands. The girl in the middle held her head up high despite the humiliation and mocking. “That necklace was my mother’s. Please return it,” she asked calmly, although her voice was shaking with emotions. The bully's lips curled into a cruel smile as she held the necklace up with one finger. “Why would I return this trash to you?” She mocked.“Please, d..
ISABELLE’S POVAlan looked away, his voice barely audible. “You are clearly of noble descent. And I'm just a struggling painter trying to make ends meet. We are from very different worlds.”For a moment, I stared at him and didn’t know what to say. Hearing such words from Alan touched me more than I expected.“You’re wrong,” I spat out, my voice sharp and firm. “Alan, you’re one of the most confident, most talented people I have ever met. Our worth isn’t defined by titles or wealth.”Alan’s eyes flicked up to meet mine, and for a moment, there was tense silence between us.I leaned in closer to him, our warm breaths mingling in the air between us. “I don’t care about status or wealth,” I whispered, my voice gentle and tender. “Those things don’t matter to me.”His face turned a deeper shade of crimson, his body trembling beside mine. I giggled softly, and I couldn't resist leaning in and pressing a gentle kiss to his cold cheek. Alan froze, his heart pounding loud enough for me to he
ROWAN’S POVShe hesitated for a second, biting her lower lip. “She’s already invited me, hasn't she? Maybe... maybe it’s time I stopped seeing her as my enemy. I don’t think she hates me anymore.”I studied her closely through the mirror, my brows furrowed. Matilda had always been timid, hiding behind others. But deep down, I knew she wasn't a bad person.“Well then, I guess I'll come with you,” I said after a moment.Matilda smiled faintly. “Thank you, Rowan,” she whispered.Despite my calm exterior, I was feeling a strange tension gnawing at me. Something was disturbing me and—it was Isabelle. For some reason I couldn't explain, I also wanted more interactions with her. Ever since she suddenly stopped clinging to me or chasing me, I couldn’t shake the unease I was feeling in my gutIt was as though I lost something without even realizing it.ISABELLE’S POVOnce I left the supermarket, I went straight to Alan’s modest home with the groceries I bought. My mind still wandered briefly
ISABELLE’S POVI turned around, only to find myself face-to-face with Beta Rowan. He had a dark scowl on his face, but his stern expression immediately softened when he saw Matilda still lying helplessly on the floor. Before I could say a single word, she scrambled off the ground and rushed towards him to stand behind his towering figure, clutching his arm and casting a wary glance back at me with an innocent expression.Rowan watched the scene with confusion, his gaze flickering between us. His frown deepened when he looked down at Matilda behind him.“What’s going on here?” Rowan asked, his deep voice filled with concern as he looked between both of us.Matilda, looked up at him with her doe-like eyes, “I-It’s nothing, really. Princess Isabelle was just... pressuring me.” she said, her voice trembling.Rowan's eyes whipped back towards me, a deep frown marrying his features. I could see the questions in his gaze, wondering who to believe.I can't believe Matilda would go as far as l
RYKER’S POVI stared at Isabelle in utter shock, her confident confession hanging heavy in the air between us. Her words were bold and direct, cutting through my usual stoic defences like a sharp blade.“I’m here because of you,” she said and I couldn't get her voice out of my head.It wasn’t just her words but the way she said them—with so much sincerity and brashness—that managed to throw me off balance. For the first time in so many years, I was not sure of how to respond. For a man like me, used to control, logic and order, the raw emotion I could feel in her voice left me almost speechless. My wolf growled, urging me to respond and acknowledge the feelings stirring deep within me. But I just couldn’t, I needed to leave.I was flustered under her prying gaze, my face turning a deep shade of red that spread down my neck.I took a step back, “I... I need to review a case file,” I blurted, stumbling over my words as I quickly retreated.Without waiting for her reply, I spun on my he
