ISABELLE’S POV
I stood in stunned silence, the weight of Kael’s confession slowly sinking in. He suddenly declared wanting to propose and I was caught off guard.
I never anticipated his feelings for me to run so deep, nor had I expected such displays of affection from the stoic general.
My wolf sighed deeply. ‘He’s sincere, Isabelle.’ She whispered to me.
I closed my eyes for a second, her fingers wrangled together as anxiety clawed at me. I was still very unsure of what I could say to him now.
Kael just asked me to wait, to let him prove himself on the battlefield before making our bond official.
How could I explain to him that I couldn't marry anyone in my condition? How could I tell Kael that I have been cursed by the moon goddess to have multiple mates?
I watched him, his expression strained as he waited for my response, but I knew I couldn't tell him the absolute truth.
Finally, all I could manage was a quiet sigh. “Let’s wait and see,” I whispered, avoiding his eyes.
My wolf growled in mild frustration, but I ignored her. She was lamenting Kael's sincerity and I also shared the same feeling, he was a good man.
Over the past few days, I have grown very fond of Kael. His loyalty, and unwavering strength, and even the flickers of warmth and humour he tried to hide under his stoic cold exterior.
But true love? I wasn’t sure. Was it even possible for me to really fall for someone with my curse?
Kael gave me a quick nod, hesitating for a moment before he turned and started putting on his clothes.
I watched his back, and almost gave in and ran into his arms but I waited silently as he got dressed, and left the room.
Immediately the door slammed shut, and the room lost all its warmth. A cold wave of air swirled around me, and I suddenly felt lonely.
After he left, I picked up my nightgown off the floor and skidded it back on, just then my maid entered the room hesitantly, a questioning look on her face.
“Your Highness,” she began, “do you truly have feelings for General Kael? Have you… moved on from Rowan?”
I paused, my head snapping up and studying her. My eyes narrowed slightly, as I weighed my own thoughts.
I adjusted the strap of my gown before I finally replied with a soft smile, “I let go of Rowan a long time ago. He was never mine to begin with.”
The maid tilted her head, clearly confused at my response.
I pooped back in the bed, my voice calm but firm. “I’ve come to understand something, Clara. Love can never be forced. It’s not about who you want but about who’s willing to love you back.”
The maid hesitated, then ventured cautiously, “But…?”
She started but I interrupted her. “I’m not the kind of woman who clings to a single man. You shouldn’t be either, Clara. Only foolish women do that.” I said with a faint smile.
Clara nodded slowly, though her expression still seemed puzzled.
Once she left the room, I was all alone with my thoughts again. I rose, standing in front of the canvas, lightly tracing my fingers over the painted portrait of Kael.
KAEL’S POV
I left Isabelle’s home with my mind muddled and my heart full of different emotions.
Her final words had been indecisive, although she didn't reject me outright, she didn't accept me either.
Still, I kept thinking of her lingering gaze, the feel of her electrifying touch, and the way our skin felt together.
I was thoroughly determined to prove my worth to her, I was going to do everything possible to make
I deserved her.
I didn't go home from Isabelle's villa but instead, I headed straight to the palace. I was summoned to an audience with Tristan, who had called me to discuss some very urgent matters.
I bowed before the throne, my posture ramrod straight and composed.
“General Kael,” Tristan began, his tone sharp and firm, “the Shallow Land Pack has recently been pushing harder on our borders. We cannot afford to lose any more territory or land to them. I need you to go to the frontlines to lead our army. Your final mission is to reclaim what we’ve lost and secure our borders.”
I bowed my head. “I am honoured by your trust, Your Highness. I will not fail you.”
Tristan leaned forward, his sharp gaze focused on me. “You have served me well for so many years, Kael. If you succeed in this mission, I will reward you handsomely.”
I hesitated for a moment before I lifted my head to meet the emperor's gaze. “I have no need for riches or titles, Your Highness. But… there is one thing I would ask of you.”
Tristan raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “And what might that be?” He asked.
I straightened even more, my voice steady and resolute. “If I succeed, then I would ask for your blessing to marry someone.”
The request took the emperor aback with surprise. Then his expression softened slightly, Brows were still furrowed. “You’ve never taken a liking to any woman before. I’m curious—who is this woman who has captured the great General Kael’s heart?”
I hesitated, my thoughts flickering to Isabelle. Her ocean blue eyes, her fiery spirit, the way she had challenged me at every turn.
I shuffled in my feet as I stood Alpha Tristan, I kept my expression calm but my heart was racing as I made my declaration. “The woman I love, Your Highness, is the most beautiful and noble in the world.”
He raised his eyebrow at me, clearly intrigued by my words and the unusual passion in my tone.
“Such high praises for the woman you love. Very well, General Kael. If you reclaim the territory from the Shallow Land Pack, I will honour your request. You have my word.”
I grinned and bowed deeply, filled with gratitude. “Thank you, Your Highness. I will ensure I do not fail, no matter what.”
He nodded in response and I gave a slight bow and left the palace. The wind was cold outside, but I felt weirdly warm inside. I have finally confessed my feelings out loud.
KAEL’S POVAs I returned to my estate, my mind was filled with thoughts of the upcoming battle. I was never nervous before going off to war for territory but this was different.I leaned back in my study, the maps of the Night Fall boundaries and military reports spread out in front of me.I stared at the paper with full concentration, analyzing strategies and enemy movements I should expect from the Shallow pack. Yet, no matter how much I tried to focus, narrowing my eyes at the documents, my thoughts kept drifting back to Princess Isabelle. Her piercing blue eyes, the confidence in her voice, and the warmth and softness in her every touch. Her confidence and thoughtfulness when she thought no one was watching, everything about her kept me enthralled and captivated.I leaned further back in my chair, letting out a deep exhale. I never intended or even planned to fall for her, in fact, I wanted the opposite.I had judged her by the unfound rumours swirling about her in the pack and
KAEL’S POVThe soft glow of the evening lanterns illuminated Isabelle’s face, her eyes swimming with emotions.“I’ll be leaving at dawn,” I said. She nodded, fiddling with the ring on her finger.“I know it’s early, but… would you come to see me off?” I asked even though I knew she wasn't an early riser. Still deep down, I wanted her to be there. She tilted her head slightly, a thoughtful expression on her face. “I don’t think I’ll manage to wake up that early,” she replied lightly, with a sheepish smile. My heart sank a little, though I quickly masked his disappointment with a small smile. “Of course. That was my oversight. I should have known not to ask.” I bowed slightly, my composure perfectly intact, and turned to leave. As I returned to my estate, walking briskly under the moonlit sky, I tried hard to convince myself that Isabelle’s words didn’t really matter. She wasn’t at all obligated to show up tomorrow to see me off, but a tiny part of me had hoped that she would have agre
ISABELLE’S POVThe morning chill seeped through my cloak as I made my way back from the park gates. My mind whirling with a dozen emotions, I kept thinking about Kael's parting words, the lingering warmth of his mother's ring wrapped around my finger.I shook my head, muttering to myself under my breath, “Oh I need a nap right now. Too many emotions for one morning.” My wolf snickered at my comment, but I ignored her.Turning a corner near the royal gardens, I shivered from the cold wind, my thoughts interrupted by a sudden collision.I walked into a huge body, my breath knocked out from the force. Two strong large hands steadied me, and I looked up to see the familiar face of Beta Rowan.“Princess Isabelle,” Rowan greeted me, his tone formal but with a hint of familiarity. His sharp eyes swept over my cloak and my wind-blown hair, clearly noticing I was coming from outside. My stomach twisted as my tongue turned sour. Why did I have to run into him of all people?“Beta Rowan,” I repl
ISABELLE'S POVAs I stepped back out of the palace, I allowed myself a brief moment of triumph. I took a deep breath of the cold air carrying fragrance from the royal gardens and smiled.I did it, I have finally succeeded in conquering my first target. My fingers instinctively reached out to the small crook of my neck, touching the mark on my skin that Kael left, with a small self-satisfied smile playing on my lips.Conquering a General was no easy feat, especially one as cold and controlled as Kael. At first, I thought it was impossible but Kael melted right into my hands.I glanced up above my head and I could see the time ticking on the countdown had been extended. I let out a deep exhale, shutting my eyes for a second with relief. Although I was grateful to achieve one goal, I knew I couldn't stop, my death was still looming like a dark cloud over me and if I let go now, I would never be able to break the curse. My death was just delayed, but I have not yet ended the curse. The c
ISABELLE'S POVThe door flew open to reveal Alan's lean figure standing in the doorway. His face had several bruises, he was also pale and he looked so tired. Before he could say anything, the blonde woman lunged at him, rushing through the door and clutching his arm as if her life depended on it.“Alan, darling, this crazy woman is trying to ruin our relationship with her vengeful lies!” she cried, shooting me a venomous glare.I slowly shook my head at her, hardly surprised by her words. It was obvious she was living in her delusional world and could hardly think clearly.I was a little satisfied when Alan's eyes snapped towards her with annoyance, he pried her hands off him with surprising strength, his voice sharp. “Nora, I’ve told you so many times that I don't want to have anything to do with you. Please stop coming here!”Nora's expression crumbled into disbelief and then morphed into hurt. “You don't mean that Alan, my love. You’re just upset. You know I love you!” she whine
ISABELLE'S POVAlan’s cheeks were still flushed and red as I broke into a soft hearty laugh, breaking through the silence and nervousness. “Relax Alan, I didn’t mean to embarrass you,” I said lightly, with a dismissive wave. “I admire your artwork and advanced skill. I was hoping you could…maybe tutor me.”Alan blinked, caught off guard by my sudden request. “Tutor you?” He echoed, raising his eyebrows. “I didn’t even know you could paint.”I shrugged, my lips tugging into a faint smile. “Painting is like a hobby to me, but I’d like to learn more from someone as talented as you,” I responded. For a moment, Alan watched me closely, narrowing his eyes, probably trying to figure out if I was actually serious. He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly dropping his mug on the wooden table with a thud.“I... I’d be happy to teach you. But are you sure you want to do this? Painting takes a lot of time, patience and focus.”“I have a lot of time on my hands and I can focus,” I replied simply
ALAN’S POVA few days passed, but I couldn’t stop thinking about that strange woman. The memory of her standing up for me against the blonde woman was etched in my brain, filling me with warmth and also a hint of confusion. I just couldn't understand why she would go out of her way to protect someone like me who was well beneath her. And what troubled me most was the unexplainable attraction I felt towards her. When she was near, it felt like I couldn't control myself, like there was an invisible force leading me to her.My wolf stirred within him, a voice soft yet insistent. ‘Perhaps she is our mate.’ He hinted.I shook my head frantically, trying to push the spiralling thoughts away. It wasn’t possible. A woman like her—strong, confident, and surely from a prestigious family—couldn’t be destined for someone as lowly as him. But the possibility clung to me, igniting a dangerous hope. I couldn't help but fantasize that maybe she likes me too, and she could feel the pull.I stopped m
ISABELLE’S POVThe woman’s brother finally seemed to grasp the gravity of the situation. His face paled as rushed forward and tried to calm his sister, whispering harshly for her to stop and think. Yet, she ignored him only growing even more hysterical. She hurled insults at me, her voice echoing through the large courtroom.“You think you are untouchable just because you have a noble title!” she spat. “I know what you are, you are nothing but a spoiled brat!”I raised an eyebrow at her, unfazed by the outburst even as her brother struggled to hold her back. I turned to glance at Ryker, who now wore a dark and thunderous expression.“Enough,” Ryker snapped, his voice sharp and commanding. He signaled the guards. “Restrain this madwoman.”As the guards started slowly closing in on her, Nora fought back hard, her arms flailing wildly around her, but the guards were stronger and we'll build and quickly subdued her. Her brother glanced nervously, his eyes darting between Ryker and me, c
ISABELLE’S POVMy breath caught in my throat, but I quickly masked my reaction. “I am doing nothing of the sort, Rowan. I’m simply acting with what I see and observe. Perhaps you should do the same.”His eyes darkened, and his expression tightened. “Do you actually believe that I have any intentions towards her?” He growled, his frustration evident in his clenched jaw.Swallowing my unease for his closeness, I squared my shoulders. “Yes, Rowan. I do. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like some time alone without you following me around.”My heart was pounding from the tension between us, heavy and charged, but I refused to look down and walk away. His words hung in the air, heavy and dark. I stared at him, my mind racing. Why had he been waiting for me? What did he mean by what he was saying?Gathering my composure, my gaze flickered over him cautiously, “Tell me exactly why you were waiting for me?”His piercing gaze met mine and he stepped even closer, till there was only a single inch
ISABELLE’S POVI arched my eyebrows, tilting my head towards her. “And what is this matter that must be addressed?” I asked incredulously.I could see the envy shining in Tania's eyes and the clear irritation under her skin as she looked at Lila. She was going to find a way to bring her down at any cost, even if it meant lying. Her dark gaze shifted to Lila, her eyes narrowing with clear disdain. “This girl owes me something—an item that rightfully belongs to me. The necklace around her neck.”The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Tania with full attention. My expression hardened, and my wolf growled softly in my mind. ‘This girl’s arrogance knows no bounds.’ She snapped.I took a deep breath to remain calm, and then I cocked my head and asked, “And how does the necklace Lila is wearing suddenly belong to you, Lady Tania?”Tania straightened, clearly thrilled her plan to humiliate Lila seemed to be working. “Her necklace is a delicate piece, silver with a sapphire pendant. Lila
ISABELLE’S POV The intensity of his sharp look sent a chill down my spine, but I refused to let it show one bit. Instead, I cocked my head at him, arching my eyebrow and maintaining my composure. My wolf didn't stay quiet. ‘Told you meddling in his affairs wouldn’t end well. He seems furious. Are you satisfied now?’ she growled with disapproval.‘He’ll get over it,’ I shot back inwardly, not backing down for a second.Tristan stepped forward, his eyes darting between us, he could already sense the rising tension in the room and let out a light chuckle to diffuse it. “Then let’s forget about it,” he said, dismissing my proposition with a wave of his hand. The crowd began murmuring once again, their tones shifting.“It seems the princess has truly moved on from the Beta,” someone remarked.“Yes, she wouldn’t have proposed it otherwise,” another agreed.Once Matilda stepped away, the crowd eased up and dispersed. Rowan shot me one last look before he also turned around and walked away
ISABELLE’S POVThe murmurs instantly ceased, and a line cleared amongst the crowd as they quickly stepped aside for me to walk past all bowing in unison. I walked in with a tiara that accentuated my royal bearing, but as I stepped inside, I could feel Rowan's presence right behind me.I quickened my pace, to put some distance between us, but I could still feel him trailing close behind me, his presence frustratingly too close.I threw a sharp glance over my shoulder, my voice low but firm. “Why must you follow me everywhere?”Rowan smirked, unfazed by my question or my demeanor. “It would be improper for me to distance myself from the princess, don’t you think?”My wolf snickered, clearly irritated by his cockiness.I quickened my pace, determined to shake off the rumours that my entrance with Rowan would soon spark. I could feel the eyes of the crowd boring through us, I knew they would soon start gossiping about us being back together.I needed to escape him so I quickly strode tow
ISABELLE’S POV“You think you belong here?” one of the women at the head of the circle sneered. “With such an ugly dress? Did you sew it yourself?”The circle erupted in laughter. “Honestly, the audacity of some ugly paupers to show up to the palace New Year banquet in nothing but rags.”My blood boiled as I watched the scene unfold. My attention remained fixed on the group gathered near the bushes. At their centre stood a tall slender woman, with dark luscious hair, her voice sharp as she mocked a plainly dressed girl clutching a necklace.“You dare bring this cheap trinket to a royal ball?” she sneered, yanking the necklace from her hands. The girl in the middle held her head up high despite the humiliation and mocking. “That necklace was my mother’s. Please return it,” she asked calmly, although her voice was shaking with emotions. The bully's lips curled into a cruel smile as she held the necklace up with one finger. “Why would I return this trash to you?” She mocked.“Please, d..
ISABELLE’S POVAlan looked away, his voice barely audible. “You are clearly of noble descent. And I'm just a struggling painter trying to make ends meet. We are from very different worlds.”For a moment, I stared at him and didn’t know what to say. Hearing such words from Alan touched me more than I expected.“You’re wrong,” I spat out, my voice sharp and firm. “Alan, you’re one of the most confident, most talented people I have ever met. Our worth isn’t defined by titles or wealth.”Alan’s eyes flicked up to meet mine, and for a moment, there was tense silence between us.I leaned in closer to him, our warm breaths mingling in the air between us. “I don’t care about status or wealth,” I whispered, my voice gentle and tender. “Those things don’t matter to me.”His face turned a deeper shade of crimson, his body trembling beside mine. I giggled softly, and I couldn't resist leaning in and pressing a gentle kiss to his cold cheek. Alan froze, his heart pounding loud enough for me to he
ROWAN’S POVShe hesitated for a second, biting her lower lip. “She’s already invited me, hasn't she? Maybe... maybe it’s time I stopped seeing her as my enemy. I don’t think she hates me anymore.”I studied her closely through the mirror, my brows furrowed. Matilda had always been timid, hiding behind others. But deep down, I knew she wasn't a bad person.“Well then, I guess I'll come with you,” I said after a moment.Matilda smiled faintly. “Thank you, Rowan,” she whispered.Despite my calm exterior, I was feeling a strange tension gnawing at me. Something was disturbing me and—it was Isabelle. For some reason I couldn't explain, I also wanted more interactions with her. Ever since she suddenly stopped clinging to me or chasing me, I couldn’t shake the unease I was feeling in my gutIt was as though I lost something without even realizing it.ISABELLE’S POVOnce I left the supermarket, I went straight to Alan’s modest home with the groceries I bought. My mind still wandered briefly
ISABELLE’S POVI turned around, only to find myself face-to-face with Beta Rowan. He had a dark scowl on his face, but his stern expression immediately softened when he saw Matilda still lying helplessly on the floor. Before I could say a single word, she scrambled off the ground and rushed towards him to stand behind his towering figure, clutching his arm and casting a wary glance back at me with an innocent expression.Rowan watched the scene with confusion, his gaze flickering between us. His frown deepened when he looked down at Matilda behind him.“What’s going on here?” Rowan asked, his deep voice filled with concern as he looked between both of us.Matilda, looked up at him with her doe-like eyes, “I-It’s nothing, really. Princess Isabelle was just... pressuring me.” she said, her voice trembling.Rowan's eyes whipped back towards me, a deep frown marrying his features. I could see the questions in his gaze, wondering who to believe.I can't believe Matilda would go as far as l
RYKER’S POVI stared at Isabelle in utter shock, her confident confession hanging heavy in the air between us. Her words were bold and direct, cutting through my usual stoic defences like a sharp blade.“I’m here because of you,” she said and I couldn't get her voice out of my head.It wasn’t just her words but the way she said them—with so much sincerity and brashness—that managed to throw me off balance. For the first time in so many years, I was not sure of how to respond. For a man like me, used to control, logic and order, the raw emotion I could feel in her voice left me almost speechless. My wolf growled, urging me to respond and acknowledge the feelings stirring deep within me. But I just couldn’t, I needed to leave.I was flustered under her prying gaze, my face turning a deep shade of red that spread down my neck.I took a step back, “I... I need to review a case file,” I blurted, stumbling over my words as I quickly retreated.Without waiting for her reply, I spun on my he
