Growing up, my parents never had enough money to come to Portugal every year, so we came every three or four years. I remember my parents saving money every year and not going anywhere on vacation so we could come here in a few years. I appreciate everything my parents have ever done for me. They worked super hard and taught me to work for everything I wanted.

“Don’t forget we are going to see your grandmother tonight,” Mom says, and I nod. I place a small kiss on the top of her head. Coming with them was the best thing I could have done. I used all of my savings to buy a ticket on the same flight as them, and I don’t regret it even for a minute.
