Kieran’s POV
I noticed a red wolf running through the woods. I had been scanning the area, getting ready to hunt when she passed.
I sensed she was a female and followed her. Her fur was unusual and I was intrigued. Loud roaring and howls greeted my ears. Different bikes riding with the wolves.
They were chasing her. I sensed her tiredness and transformed into my wolf form.
Unlike the others, I moved quietly even though I was fast. I was larger too and watched in awe as she easily got away from them, making them crash and collide with each other.
I stood at the top of a hill hiding behind the shadow and noticed a clothed man enter the ruined packhouse. He looked just like the assassins chasing her and I waited.
Next, she ran in, and I heard her groan with a fall. I ran towards the building and snarled, getting their attention.
The man already had her pinned to the floor and his claws raised to slash her throat.
I stopped forward, ready to pounce on him when a huge wind pulled him off her, sending him crashing through the rotting table.
He groaned, and I stayed still. My eyes moved between them. She looked at her hands. I felt a rush of energy coming from her.
What the hell was that?
She sat up, and I saw her face.
Sienna
My mind twirled, staring into her eyes. She looked scared, the second she spotted and stood up. Her legs shook and before I could understand what she planned to do. She ran.
I turned my gaze to the groaning man, he was recovering. He was a werewolf after all and he snarled, his fangs growing.
I had no use for him, and I ignored him chasing after the young woman. She didn't stop, and continued running.
I could catch up with her, and I increased my pace. She seemed to notice and transformed back into her red wolf.
I growled, chasing after her. She was fast, a lot faster than I had expected. She reached the edge of a cliff and halted suddenly.
I cornered her, trying to approach her, but she was too scared to notice. I stepped closer, and she moved a bit, almost falling off the cliff.
I had to act fast, and lunged at her, pushing her away from the edge of the cliff. She hit the tree, falling unconscious.
Had I hit her too hard?
***********
“You should have killed her the moment you saw what she was."
Darius’s voice cut through the heavy silence like a knife, sharp and irritated.
He turned dark eyes towards the unconscious girl lying in the holding cell. I did not flinch. Instead, I leaned against the cold stone wall, folded my arms, and watched the girl responsible for putting the entire pack into chaos.
"I have no interest in spilling any blood," I answered.
I didn't tell him who she was exactly.
Sienna.
The last Ruby Wolf
Her wrists were chained, silver cuffs gnawing into the skin.
Even sleeping, her human form jerked, restless. Tangles of dark, unkempt strands stuck to the sweat-beaded surface of skin, and the rise and fall of the chest were shallow gasps. She was much too thin. Too fragile like a wolf about to break.
And yet, nevertheless, she held power.
Power I hadn’t expected. Power I couldn’t ignore.
Darius took one step closer, keeping his voice hushed. "You're hesitating."
He wasn’t mistaken.
I should have killed her by now. That is the Shadowfang Pack's rule. Ask not, kill. But something did not sit right about this one. The Midnight Syndicate did not kill their foes until after they questioned them. If she were their foe, she'd be dead by now. And if not, the devil himself only knew what the devil she was.
I pushed against the wall, leaning towards the cell. Shadows from the iron grating were falling over sleeping features. "I’ll handle this," I growled.
Darius scoffed. "You had better."
"Who is the master here?" I asked, looking at him. He shrunk back, raising his hand in surrender.
"You are, Alpha. Just be careful, will you? You're too kind," he added, and walked off.
The sound of his steps ringing through the dark halls of the underground cells.
I exhaled gradually, releasing the strain from the muscles around the base of my neck. This girl wasn't some ordinary Syndicate escapee. How she'd resisted, the way her ability flailed about; it wasn't coincidence.
It was dangerous.
I unlocked the cell door and went inside. The smell of blood and the stench of the old stone hung heavy over the room. As the instant I crossed the threshold.
I undid the lock on the chains on her wrist and ankles.
Sienna stirred. She gasped for breath, the hands closing into weak fists.
I crouched beside her, waiting for her lashes to open.
And she did. Her amber eyes met mine. They were wild and resilient.
Then, without hesitation, she attacked.
I caught hold of her hand, slamming her down on the floor with my hand. She moved again, and I pressed her down, keeping her still with my other hand on her neck. It wasn't enough to choke her, just keep her in place.
She gasped, not looking away, and didn't try to beg.
Interesting. Stubborn and hot headed.
She bared teeth. “Kill me, or let me go.”
I raised an eyebrow. Why would I kill her?
"Brave for one who'd just gotten their ass kicked," I mocked.
Her pulse thundered beneath my grip. She didn’t flinch, or cower.
Fascinating.
I released her, and she stepped ahead, stumbling slightly before recovering herself. She brushed the corner of her mouth, frowning up at me like a caught wolf. "What do you want?"
"Who says I need anything?" I asked.
"You didn't kill me. So, you clearly want something," she replied.
I could have said a thousand things. Answers. Loyalty. Submission.
But instead, I smiled. "You."
Her breath caught for a moment, but she quickly covered the lapse by adopting the sneer. "You're crazy."
I leaned in close, close enough for the breath from my mouth to gently caress against the skin. "No, little wolf. I’m the only one around here using their head."
She struggled, glaring at me with hatred. "If you aren't going to kill me, then what? I'm not playing your games."
“I have no interest in killing you, yet.” My voice dropped lower. “I want you to be my mate.”
The words hung like a hotwire between the two of us.
Her lips parted, incredulous expression passing over the features before hardening into something sharper. "What? No! Go to hell."
"You seem to be in it, darling," I mocked.
I chuckled, stepping back from her when she swung a fist towards me. She was quick, but clumsy and wasn't strong enough.
I caught hold of her wrist easily, keeping it against mine.
Then I felt something.
A jolt. An explosion of something hot and electrifying coursing through veins the instant our skin touched.
The blood rage inside me grew. The curse placed upon me all those years, started to crawl out.
No, damn it. Not now, stay back. She didn't do anything wrong. Stay in.
The animal in me began clawing to the surface fighting for control.
For a moment only until I could comprehend its implications.
Her lips parted and her eyebrows folded together. She felt the same energy, but only I was losing control.
I tightened my grip, ignoring the beast.
The blood fury abated.
Sienna’s eyes widened in shock, and she squirmed, trying to get away from me, but I didn't budge.
"What the devil are you going to do?" She asked, horrified.
I stared back at her, and forced the blood rage back to the depths of hell. "I am going to show you destiny."
"Huh?" She voiced, and let out a breathless laugh, shaking her head. "You're crazy."
I loosened my hold on her slightly. "If you'd prefer to survive?" I asked. "Then you will stay here. With me."
Her chest heaved and dropped. "I told you already. I reject your offer."
I smirked. "Then, you leave me no choice."
I released the grip around her wrist, watching the flinch, cradling the wrist protectively as if scalded. "You're not leaving this packhouse alive unless I say so."
Her gaze snapped towards the door, her thoughts racing. "I don't take orders from you."
“Try me,” I warned.
The silence felt heavy with latent violence. I could sense the battle in her eyes, the part of her that wished to rip my throat, but she was never getting that chance.
I turned, moving towards the cell door, but stopped and glanced over my shoulder.
“You have until morning to make your choice,” I said softly but sternly. “You can remain here as my mate…or you can leave here as my captive.”
She didn’t react. I left her alone, closing the door behind me.
Ronan’s POV“She should not have survived.”The words rang through my head while I sat in the Syndicate's war room, blood hardening over the tear in the sleeve of my jacket. Dorian Maddox, the enforcer for the Midnight Queen, paced the room, his sharp, hawk eyes slicing through the silence like the edge of a knife.I felt the weight of his eyes upon me but did not flinch. I never did.“You had one job, Voss.” He said this softly yet menacingly. “Kill the girl. Bring back the proof. But instead, you come back with a useless excuse of her disappearing into the lands of Shadowfang. Care to explain?”A muscle in my jaw convulsed. “She escaped.”Dorian’s lips twisted into amusement, though his eyes were not amused. “Escaped?” He leaned against the cold steel table dividing us. “You’re the Phantom Wolf, the Syndicate’s greatest assassin, and you expect me to believe some starving girl overpowered you?”My silence did the talking.Dorian exhaled through the nostrils, the deliberate expulsio
Sienna’s POV“Do you really think locking me up here forever is going to change my mind?” I said, and made a swift turn to see Kieran standing by the door. I had sensed him earlier. I was angry, and I hated being imprisoned. He smiled, walking right up to me. I was always amazed how soft his eyes could be. Yet, they would switch back to being dark. “You’re not a prisoner,” he said smoothly, “just… contained.”A harsh, quaking laugh burst out of my throat. “Is that what you have been calling this? A gilded cage with silk sheets? I am not a simpleton, Kieran.”His lips slightly curved upward. “No, you’re not. Which is why you should be smart enough to understand why you’re here.”I had my arms folded. “I know the reason I’m here.”“Don't you?” He asked, smiling. “You want me to be the cure for your mental illness. The entire werewolves clans know,” I spat. Kieran didn’t deny it. Instead, he moved closer to me. His gaze locked onto mine like a predator sizing up prey. “I don't see
Ronan’s POVI moved stealthily, slowing my breathing. The guards doubled before I could get to where Sienna was. I watched their routines and focused on their weaknesses. I knew when to push forward, when to pull back. The timing had to be right. A guard stepped inches from where I stood by the stone column, his boots crunching gravel. My fist tightening around the dagger on my belt eased. One mistake, one sound, and I'd have to kill him.Not yet.He passed by, oblivious.I crept forward, my form slipping between the spaces in their line, unseen with slow steps. My muscles tensed in purpose as I inched to the edge of the building, hugging the icy stone. I was familiar with the formation; three in front, two at the stairs. They would have no clue what was coming their way.The first man never saw me. A sharp flick of my wrist, and my knife cut across his throat, catching him before he could have hit the ground. I dropped him, silent. The seconds came too fast. I whacked him on the h
Sienna's POV"Get him away from me!" Kieran ordered. The bodyguards dragged Ronan across the floor. He coughed out blood, and looked at me. I was scared anything would happen to him. "He'll live," Kieran said, as if reading my mind. Kieran's men dragged him to the door, and his boots scraped the ground. Just as they were about to leave the door, something bright slipped out of his hand. Kieran hadn't noticed, he had his back turned, and I ran to pick the dagger. Kieran turned just as quickly and I hid the dagger in my palm behind me. The door closed, and it was just Kieran and I left in the room. "Are you that stupid?" He asked. "Huh?" I asked, startled. "He got in, and you didn't notice," Kieran blurted. I was aware, but I didn't have time to argue with him. I wanted him out of my room as quickly as possible so I could loosen the ventilation shaft above and get the hell out of his house. He stepped forward, and I retreated with every step he took. He smirked, having me c
Sienna's POVIt was over. I started to feel cold. I couldn't struggle anymore. I tried to reach for the surface to get air one more time, but I couldn't. The water's current was too strong. My hands stayed up, as the water dragged me down. I felt sorry for all the things I hadn't done. My vision became blurry, and I closed my eyes. This was the end. But something pulled me up. I couldn't see it. It gripped my arm, pulling me upward until I felt the water below my head. I was too weak to see what it was. Then, I gasped desperately as the air touched my nose. The air was freezing, and the water splashed as it pulled to the sand. I had never felt more grateful to be on land. Somehow, I prayed it wasn't any of kieran's men, or I would be in bigger trouble. I had attacked him after all and escaped his packhouse. Slowly, I opened my eyes, blinking as my chest heaved while I panted. I was never going near the waters again. It was dark, and a blurry face looked at mine smiling. My eye
Kieran's POVI boiled with anger. Sienna was gone and my men had let her slip so easily. They were sloppier and stupid than I expected. I clenched my fists at my sides, wanting to hit something but I kept my calm. My men lowered their heads and I looked around in anger. They shifted slightly anytime I got closer to any of them. "Is this how you intend to protect the pack?" I asked. They remained quiet and Darius stepped forward. "She couldn't have gone far, alpha," he said. "I have sent some men to the border.""If she isn't found before the sun goes down, then you'll have to suffer. Do I make myself clear?" My voice thundered and they nodded. "Yes, alpha," they answered. "Find her, now!" I ordered and they dispersed. Darius looked at the men and back to me. "Aren't you taking it out on them a little too much? She's just one wolf."I let my eyes for the talking and he swallowed. I kept quiet, not wanting to lash out and walked out of the packhouse. The men followed behind me a
Kieran's POVDarius and I stood at the huge castle gate and I rang the bell. It was ancient just like the castle. The door opened inwardly and echoed as it cracked the stone on the floor. We instinctively exchanged a glance and once the door touched the wall, we stepped in. The passageway was decorated in a modern style and I was pleased with that. I wasn't about to cry a flame torch around. The air smelt old with incense and a tall, slender pale man came to us. "Welcome, Alpha Kieran," he greeted. "And to you, Darius.""Please, this way. Lord Caius is waiting," the man said, gesturing for us to follow him.We followed silently and walked on the polished stone floor. The corridor led us to a large meeting hall with vintage chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. There he was seated at the far end of the hall, on a black marble chair. "Caius," I said and the pale messenger bowed and left. He looked just as dead as everyone in this castle. "Kieran Draven Wolfe," Caius said, smiling
Sienna's POV They froze at the sound of my voice, mid strike. They looked wild with their fangs and claws out."I said, stop it!" I repeated in a firm voice. Darius struggled on the floor, moving slightly and tried to crawl. They turned to me, at the same time, their hands falling gently to their side. I could see they were still tense. Kieran's green eyes softer as he saw me and he slowly returned to his human form. Caius did the same, his fangs and claws retreating. "What were you two going to do? Kill yourselves?" I asked, walking fast down the stairs. The fresh scratch on kieran's cheeks healed before I reached down and he wiped the blood off his face. Caius, glowing eyes returned to its usual red eyes and his torn lips healed. Kieran stepped forward, and I moved back. He stopped, stretching his hands out. "Sienna, come with me."His voice was calm, pleading and softer than the last time he spoke to me. "I can't," I answered and caught Caius smiling. I was mad with myself
Caius's POVI arrived at the Shadowfang area with perfect timing. The moon was rising, chaos was brewing, and alliances were about to change. Just as I'd planned.Twenty of my best vampire warriors flanked me as we approached the main gates. I'd dressed for the event in formal Vampire Court attire - midnight blue robes with silver trim that marked me as royalty."Remember," I told my soldiers, "we're here under the diplomatic banner. No killing unless I command it."The wolves at the gate bared their teeth when they caught our smell. Vampires on werewolf land during a full moon? Unheard of. Yet they couldn't deny entry to a royal foreign envoy. Those were the old laws. "Prince Caius Blackthorne requests audience with Alpha Kieran," I announced, letting my voice carry the weight of centuries. The guards traded nervous glances. "The Alpha is... indisposed."I smiled, showing just a hint of fang. "Then I'll speak with whoever is in charge."Before they
Kieran's POVThe moon wasn't even visible yet, but I could already feel her pull in my blood.I paced the reinforced chamber like a caged animal, my skin burning with the need to change. To tear. To destroy. Each full moon was bad, but this one felt worse – like my blood had been replaced with liquid fire."Three hours until moonrise," I growled to myself, looking at the heavy silver-reinforced door.I'd locked myself in early tonight. The Midnight Queen was coming, and my pack needed their Alpha, not a dumb beast. But the rage was rising faster than normal, clawing at my insides with razor-sharp talons.Sweat soaked through my shirt as I fought the change. My bones cracked and reset themselves, wanting to shift but meeting my stubborn reluctance. I wouldn't give in. Not yet.The protective runes carved into the walls glowed faintly blue, intended to contain werewolf magic. But as another wave of pain crashed through me, one of the runes flickered and we
Darius's POVMy phone buzzed with a message that made my stomach twist into knots.Tonight. Kill the Alpha before the Queen comes. No excuses.I deleted it quickly, looking around the packhouse hallway to make sure no one had seen. After ten years of spying for the Midnight Syndicate, I should have felt nothing. Just another job.But my hands shook as I shoved the phone into my pocket.Kill Kieran Draven Wolfe. The Alpha who trusted me. Who made me his Beta. The packhouse buzzed with activity, everyone planning for the coming attack after Sienna's warning. Warriors sharpened weapons while others strengthened walls with silver-resistant barriers. They all moved with purpose, united by loyalty.A devotion I had faked for a decade."Darius!" Maya, one of our youngest fighters, rushed up to me. "Alpha wants all defense chiefs in the war room. The spies spotted movement in the eastern woods."I nodded, forcing myself to look calm. "I'll be right t
Sienna's POVI woke with a scream dying in my throat, my skin burning as if on fire from the inside. Scrambling from the bed, I stumbled to the mirror and froze in fear.Ruby-red markings had spread across my body overnight, swirling designs that pulsed with light beneath my skin. They weren't just on my arms anymore—they covered my shoulders, crept up my neck, and traced tiny lines across my face."What's happening to me?" I whispered, touching the marks with shaky fingers. The moment my emotions spiked, flames erupted from my fingers, catching the curtains. Fire licked up the cloth with hungry tongues."No!" I shouted, fear making the flames grow higher. The door burst open. Kieran charged in, eyes wild with fear. Without pause, he yanked down the burning curtains and stomped out the flames. When the danger passed, he turned to me, his expression shifting from worry to awe as he took in my transformed appeara
The Midnight Queen's POVThe moon hung like a silver eye in the night sky, watching as I placed twelve crystal vials in a perfect circle. Each held the fresh blood of a werewolf—Alpha blood, Beta blood, Omega blood. Power in every drop. But not Ruby Wolf blood. Not yet."Is everything prepared?" I asked, not turning to look at the masked figures standing quietly behind me."Yes, my Queen," Isolde, my Black Moon Witch, answered. "The stars are aligned. The boundary between places thins."I smiled, feeling the weight of ages in the curve of my lips. How long had I waited for this moment? How many failures and false starts? The chamber deep beneath the Syndicate offices hummed with ancient energy. Black candles cast dancing shadows on walls covered in patterns older than human language. At the middle stood an archway made of stone that seemed to drink in light rather than reflect it—the Echo Gate, a small replica of the Celestial Gate I sought to open.I removed my hood, letting my white
Zeke's POVRain poured down as I stared at the abandoned building. Lightning flashed, showing the faded sign: "Midnight Pharmaceuticals." Another lie. This was no drug factory—it was a Syndicate lab. The place where they might have made me into... whatever I am.My boots splashed through water as I approached the fence. The tip I'd gotten from the dying Syndicate agent better be worth the price I paid. Three days tracking through mud and memories I couldn't trust."Records in the basement," he'd gasped before the light left his eyes. "About the twins. About you."I cut through the fence with my claws—another "gift" from the Syndicate's trials. Normal dogs couldn't do this. Normal wolves couldn't smell a guard half a mile away either, but I already knew two were inside, probably bored and not expecting company. The lock on the back door was no match for me. Inside, the air smelled like dust and old chemicals. My night vision picked up details in the darkness—broken furniture, smashed c
Caius's POVThe small vial of red liquid glowed in the flickering candlelight. I held it up, watching how the blood—Sienna's blood—seemed to pulse with life even outside her body."Perfect," I whispered. My rooms in the Vampire Court were sealed. Three black candles made a triangle on my marble floor. Ancient designs drawn in ash circled them. No one could know what I was about to do—blood magic was forbidden even among vampires.I knelt in the middle of the circle and uncorked the vial. The scent hit me instantly—sweet, powerful, and definitely Ruby Wolf. My fangs extended automatically. This single drop had cost me a lot. The spy in Kieran's pack had risked everything to take it from the medical bay after Sienna's injury. Worth every gold coin.I tipped the vial, letting a single drop fall onto the center sign."Visus sanguinis, oculi lupus," I whispered, slicing my palm with a silver dagger. My blood mixed with hers. The candles flared blue.Pain shot through my eyes as the spell t
Kieran's POVThe prisoner's head lolled to one side as the pack guards dragged him into my office. His face was bruised, but his eyes—sharp and aware—told me he wasn't as weakened as he claimed to be."Chain him," I ordered, trying to keep my voice steady. The anger bubbled under my skin like hot oil. It shouldn't be happening yet—the full moon was still days away. But ever since I'd found that scrap of fabric with Sienna's smell near the security breach, my control had been slipping. The guards secured Ronan Voss to the heavy chair bolted to the floor. The famed phantom wolf. Former Syndicate killer. And, if my instincts were right, a man who wanted my possible mate."Leave us," I ordered. The guards paused. "Now."When the door closed, I circled Ronan slowly. "You've caused quite a stir in my territory.""Not my intention." His voice was calm, almost bored.I slammed my fist on the desk. "You were found in banned territory after trespassing on my land. One of my pack mates is missin
Sienna's POV The blinding light took me totally. One second I was on the battlefield with Ronan trying to calm me, Kieran struggling for his life without his wolf, and my mother—the Midnight Queen—floating above us all. The next second, I was... somewhere else. The illumination faded, and I found myself standing in an unfamiliar environment. It wasn't quite a room. There were no walls, no ceiling, only infinite red mist that whirled around me like living fire. "Hello?" I called out. My voice echoed strangely, like if I was in a cave and an open field at the same time. The blood anger that had been raging through my veins was calm now. I could think clearly again. "Welcome, child of my line." I spun around. A woman stood behind me. She looked a lot like me—dark hair, sturdy build—but her eyes shone ruby red, brighter than mine ever had. She wore plain clothes that felt both ancient and timeless. "Who are you?" I asked, though somehow I already knew. "I am Elara, the First Ruby
