Sixty Six

Serena’s POV

Nate tangled the ends of my hair around the tips of his fingers, as he gazed out our chamber’s window absentmindedly. The responsibility of choosing an appropriate punishment for his own brother, well it was never something he had expected to do.

This time yesterday he had been expecting a warm family reunion once he had saved William from what he believed was a threat. Who could have guessed William was the real threat.

He had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Other than support him in his decision, there wasn’t much I could do. Nate had to figure this one out on his own. Whatever decision he made, I’d stand by him.

With a heavy sigh, he turned his head against the pillow and met my gaze. His eyes were sunken, dulled by the burden he bared. “I know what I’m going to do.” His lips formed a tight line.

I gently placed my palm on his cheek, offering physical support. “Whatever it is, I’ll be right behind you.”
