I had stormed out of Nate’s office, livid with his stupid Royal ass. Who did he think he was? He has my god damn birthday tattooed to his wrist and he won’t even tell me why. I swear the man has lost his mind.
There is just no arguing with him, regardless of what you say he just doesn’t see reason. Don’t even get me started on the fact that he kept calling me his! I belong to no one but myself. Part of me wondered if he meant I was his mate but again, I thought if that was the case he would just tell me. He probably just wants to claim me as another one of his sexual conquests and nothing more. Well it’s my birthday tomorrow and we’ll soon see what the deal is. If I had a wolf, which my father insisted I did, then tomorrow would tell me who Nate was to me. My King or my mate. “Ugh!” I aggressively pushed open the front door to the academy. Stupid men and their stupid ways. I refused to let him make me a sexual pet. Yes he was gorgeous and yes my heart felt pain from not being near him, but I’m not 19 yet so I can’t feel the mate bond. It must just be an overdeveloped crush However I knew there were things he wasn’t telling me. Things which effected my life. I always had a really good gut feeling about things and my gut was never wrong. Call it extra good intuition. How can I hate someone so much but want to jump on them as equally badly? I needed to go for a walk and clear my mind. Nate told me to go and get changed but as I already told him, I wouldn’t listen to his demands. I walked down the drive of the academy, heading towards the gate. Most students were in classes now so I wouldn’t be hassled by anyone. I just needed to get out of these grounds and as far away from Nate as I possibly could. As I reached the gate, Archie was stood by the gate with two other males. His hazel eyes reached out to me, instantly knowing I was pissed off. “How was it with the King?” Archie asked whilst wrapping his arms around my shoulders. “That man is the most annoying person I have ever met” I huffed in response. “And the sexiest man I’ve ever met” Archie winked. I rolled my eyes and laughed. “I need to go for a walk, clear my head and blow off some steam” I told Archie whilst heading towards the gates “can you buzz me out?” “I’m not sure that’s a good idea Serena, you aren’t protected out there without a wolf” Archie’s eyes filled with worry, uncertain on whether to allow me out. “Archie, sweetheart, I’m a big girl I can handle myself. I’ll be back before dinner, I just can’t stay in the same proximity as him right now”. I raised my eyebrows in hope and prayed my friend would let me out. Archie walked over to the gates security post and unlocked the pedestrian gate. “You’ll be back before dinner? And you’ll stay local so I can hear any danger?” Archie asked. Werewolves had super hearing and could hear their pack within a 5 mile range. “I promise”. I kissed Archie on the cheek and walked out of the academy grounds. Looking either side of me, I decided to turn right and follow the road ahead. There wasn’t much to look at on my journey except a load of naked land. But the smell of freshly cut grass always warmed my heart. I didn’t know why but I always felt calm when in nature, it soothed me. Admiring the daisies lined up along the path, I felt my mind relax and my anger was relieved. What the hell was I going to do with his royal pain back at the academy? After tomorrow came and I could be sure he wasn’t my mate, I was going to tell him this ridiculous possessive game we were playing was over and he should focus on the women he entertained before I arrived. Around 2 miles from the academy, I followed a path through the woods which led to the most beautiful lagoon I had ever seen. I walked towards the edge of the lagoon, taking in my surroundings. The water was as clear as the Maldives ocean and was boarded with rustic old bricks, keeping the water in place. The lagoon was surrounded by more daisies and a bridge which turned into steps, which led into the lagoon. Behind the lagoon was a large cliff, embodied with flowers and weeds. Coming off the cliff was a waterfall, the water peacefully crashed into the lagoon creating bubbles. I sat by the edge of the lagoon, enjoying the peace and quiet. The more I relaxed, the sleepier I got and I laid down beside the water drifting off. An hour later I was suddenly awoken by a loud growl. I shot up and came head on with a brown wolf, screaming from the unexpected wake up call. The wolf didn’t have Amaris crescent symbol patterned behind its ear, so I knew it wasn’t from our pack but instead was a rogue. The rogue bared it’s teeth at me, as drool dribbled out of its mouth. It’s eyes were black and it was clearly preparing for a hunt, with me being the prey. I wasn’t prepared for this, I had only attended two weeks of combat training and I hadn’t been doing very well due to my laziness and lack of effort. The wolf stroked his paw against the ground like a bull in a fight. It was preparing to come for me. I may not be good at fighting but I wasn’t going to shy away either. I would give it my best shot. The wolf charged towards me and I slid underneath it, whilst twisting myself on top of him. In combat training they has told us the best way to fight a wolf in human form was to snap its neck from being on his back. I wrapped my arms around his neck but I didn’t apply pressure to the right place and soon the wolf had shook me off it’s back, throwing me into a nearby tree. I felt immediate pain as my back slammed against the trunk of the tree. I heard a crack as I landed and I was certain I had broken a rib. Still in excruciating pain, I stood back up and faced the rogue. I was wobbly on my feet but I watched it charge towards me once more. Again I slid under the wolf and rid his back but because I was in so much pain, I wasn’t able to apply much force and he shook me off again. This time, I land on the stones by the lagoon and hit my head on the rocks with serious force. My head started spinning and my vision became blurry as I was losing consciousness. Suddenly my leg felt like it was on fire as I realised the rogue had bitten my leg. The feeling of flesh being broken consumed me and I realised I was about to die. As I wait for the last few seconds of my life to be over, a loud growl erupts from the trees I had once walked through. The rogue turned its head to see a huge black wolf, with the Amaris symbol behind his ear, leap towards it and knocking it off its paws. The black wolf snarled at the rogue and they began circling each other. The large wolf was the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen as I watched him leap onto the rogue, taking a chunk out of the rogues fur. The rogue whimpered and returned to all fours. They began circling each other again as the large black wolf let out a dangerously scary growl. Serena, touch the water. A voice spoke to me. Who the hell was that? Come into the water, Serena. The voice spoke again. I didn’t have time to question it as I rolled over and fell into the lagoon, making a large splash. I suddenly regretted my decision as I realised I was in no position to swim. But before I could panic, the water started spiralling around me. I found myself being consumed into a whirlpool, as the water tunnelled round my broken and deflated body. A warm tingle began to appear in my feet, working it’s way up my body. Every part of my body began to heal as the feeling took control of me. I had no idea what was happening but I knew I felt safe and protected as the water continued swirling around me. The warm tingle reached my head and I no longer felt any pain from the hit of the stones, as the wound began to close. The water started calming and I found myself peacefully floating on my back. This was the most relaxed I had felt in a long time and I was certain I was in heaven. Immediately, my eyes opened as I remember my surroundings and the situation at hand. I stood up and saw the large black wolf running towards me, jumping into the lagoon to reach me. I saw the symbol behind his right ear and a calming wave came over me. He felt familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it. As he came closer to me, the smell of vanilla overwhelmed me and my heart skipped a beat. It was Nate, he was here. I wasn’t sure how he knew where I was, but I was thankful for him to have found me at that moment. I wasn’t one to rely on men and I usually could look after myself, but the rogue has the upper hand and I would have soon met my death if Nate hadn’t arrived. I ran my fingers through the black wolfs fur, as he nudged me to get on his back. I climbed on top of him and held on tight, still relishing in his scent, as Nate climbed out of the lagoon. I looked ahead and saw the rogue was starting to find its balance once again. It seemed as though it had tunnel vision and was focusing on Nate. Fear ran through my body like never before as the rogue charged towards Nate, who had realised a moment too late. The thought of Nate getting hurt fuelled the fear and anger in my body. I had to protect him, I just didn’t know how. I jumped off his back so he was able to defend himself without the worry of me on his shoulders. Focus Serena. The voice I previously heard called out to me once more. What? Focus on what you want. What I wanted? I wanted Nate to fight this rogue off. Serena, breathe! Focus on what you want! The voice shouted at me. I didn’t understand, I shook my head feeling helpless. I looked at Nate and tears began to stream down my face at the thought of him being injured. My heart ached at the possibility. I looked ahead at the rogue and anger filled my body. I watched him charge towards us, with clear intent on going for Nate. Nate began to run head on to the rouge. NO, my head shouted. I would not let him be hurt. My attention and anger redirected back to the rogue. Not a second later, the tingling I felt in the lagoon once again consumed my body as I stared at the rouge, dead in the eye. Water from the lagoon rose up and formed into a whirlpool in the sky, growing larger and large as the seconds passed. Nate’s and the rouges attention turned to the whirlpool. I focused all my energy on the water and stopping the rogue attacking Nate. When a loud scream escaped my lips from giving up all my strength, the whirlpool darted towards the rogue and swept him up. The rogue span round and round the whirlpool, before passing out from the pressure. The water fell back into the lagoon and the rogue floated in the now calm water. My attention turned to the black wolf, who had now shifted back to Nate. I let out a sigh of relief and my eyes scanned his naked body. He ran towards me with fear in his eyes and just as I felt his arms around me, my mind started to spin and I fell into his arms. Seconds later, everything went black.I woke up to bright dazzlingly lights which caused my eyes to squeeze back shut, convinced I would go blind if I left them open. “She’s just opened her eyes!” My mothers voice shouted. Wait.. my mother? Where am I? “Serena, kiddo, can you hear me?” My father’s voice was much gentler than my mothers, thank god. “Yes, I think everyone heard mum” I groaned, attempting to open my eyes once more. Being successful, I looked around to see I was laying in a hospital bed in one of them god awful gowns that showed your whole ass. Speaking of asses, I felt a breeze on mine.. that’s weird. Oh shit, I shot round to see my naked bum had been mooning on who I presumed to be a doctor. “Don’t worry, I’ve seen many over the years and I’m certain I’ll see a fair few more” the woman laughed. “I presume you are my doctor?” I asked. “Yes Serena, I’ve been looking after you since you came in. I am Dr Blake” the woman smiled at me, she looked aw
“Your-your what?” Maddie jumped up, confused on whether to focus on me or Nate. I stared at the man who had driven me insane over the last 3 weeks, but the man who had also risked his life to come and save me. Am I glowing? I felt like I was glowing. I felt like my heart was letting out a bright white light. Emotions spiralled round my body, as the man I was furious at just 1 hour ago was suddenly the only thing I ever wanted. My heart felt like it would was going to burst with joy and my tummy was doing a million somersaults. My eyes started to fill up with tears as I became overwhelmed with emotion. “I’m going to give you two some privacy” Maddie whispered to me, before running past Nate. There he stood, wearing his typical day-to-day attire. His black suit trousers were once again complimented with his black loafers and his chest was partially covered in a grey suit shirt. He ran his hand through his dark brown hair as he stepped towards me. His eyes
The royal shit had actually broke down my bathroom door! I let out half a giggle, before watching him stalk towards me. Whilst waiting for him to reach me, I bit my lip and stared intensely into his eyes, still playing with myself. “Mmm” my back arched as I moaned at my own touch. Less than a second later, Nate pushed my hand away from my pussy. He then lifted me as if I weighed no more than a feather and held me against the wall, putting my legs around his shoulders. He lifted up my arms and held my wrists above my head with one hand, with his spare hand grabbing my ass. Excitement rushed through my body as it desperately ached for his touch. My body was drawn to him in ways I cannot explain, but I needed to feel him. I need him to please me. I had never wanted anything so much in my life. My core was on fire, unable to cool down until it felt his touch. I was addicted to him already… Without warning, my King buried his face between my legs
“Huh-hmm” a loud cough woke me from my deep sleep. My eyes still closed, I stretched out my body and let out a loud yawn. Nate’s arms unwrapped themselves from my waist as he stretched his arms above his head. I let out a sigh as I missed his arms around me already. Chuckling, Nate pulled me onto his chest as I came around. I opened my eyes to see Maddie stood at the bottom of my bed with her arms folded and her eyebrows raised. I couldn’t help but laugh, she tried to come across dominant but she was just too cute. “Do either of you care to explain why I no longer have a bathroom door?” Maddie pointed at the bathroom door resting on the floor. I let out a loud laugh, remembering Nate’s frustration. “The King got a little impatient” I winked. Maddie rolled her eyes and folded her arms once more. “Your Highness, you may be my best friend’s mate but you can’t break down my bathroom door!” Maddie insisted in disbelief. Chu
Shit, what do we do now? I looked at Nate, who seemed to be amused by my panic. Call me a prude but I didn’t really want my parents walking in on me groping the King. “Serena, relax. Sophia and John are out there, occupying your parents” Nate walked towards me and ran his hands down my arms, trying to soothe me. “Who the hell are Sophia and John?!” He had told me their names like they were supposed to mean something. Nate laughed. “They are two warriors from the Royal Court, they are also Joe’s parents”. I began to realise I had only ever met one member of Nate’s pack, Miss White. “Why are they out there?” I had only ever seen Nate on his own or with academy faculty. I started to wonder why this King never had his advisors around. “Royal Pack warriors are always around. You just never see them. Clearly you have tunnel vision” Nate winked at me, before turning to the shower. I suddenly realised I hadn’t responded to my p
“You’re not moving from that specific spot?” Nate chuckled as he raised an eyebrow. “That’s right, one of you better start talking.” I demanded. Nate’s eyes burned deep into my skull, before he turned to my parents flashing them a smile. “Claire, Tom, excuse me”. Nate strode towards me and wrapped his arm around my hips, before throwing me over his shoulder. “Nate, you better put me down right now or I’ll-“ I begun to shout, slapping his back. “Please, follow me” Nate politely asked my parents, as if he didn’t have me flicking his ear trying to get me to put him down. After pulling my dress down, he placed his hand on my ass to make sure my dress didn’t ride back up. He then nodded for my parents to follow him as he carried me through the gigantic steel doors. I could hear my parents laughing at Nate’s way of handling me, behind. “Welcome to your future home, little mate” Nate whispered. I calmed on his shoulder for a moment
My mothers eyes met mine, as she began to tell her story. “Do you remember the young girl I used to tell you about?” My mothers tone sounded hopeful. I thought back to the stories of the fae my mum told me as a child, remembering the story of an 19 year old girl named Clarissa. Clarissa was the princess of the fae island, Midsummer, and she was next in line for the throne. Midsummer was in the north of the fae realm and often found itself clashing with Betwixt. The Queen’s of the islands could never agree with how the realm should be governed and things often got heated between the pair. The Queen of Midsummer believed in equality and she didn’t believe in ranks. She also didn’t agree with the war between the werewolves, believing fae and wolves should be able to live peacefully and even mate, if they choose too. However, the Queen of Betwixt believed fae should be ranked by the abilities they possess. She was also determined the finish her mother’s, Amoura, fight with
Did I really just create an actual hole… in the ground? As I turned back to face the view of the broken field, my body froze as it became clear the earthquake wasn’t a figment of my imagination, but was instead the result of my anger. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, feeling overwhelmed by the days revelations. 3 weeks ago I was just a girl from Manchester, going to a human college and setting off the fire alarms to get out of classes. Today, I stand in the middle of a field that I found in my dreams, with the, supposedly ruthless but I would argue infuriating was the more appropriate word, King as my mate. My mother was a fae and I was a princess to a Kingdom I thought my mother had made up as a bedtime story. Oh, and I was supposed to save that kingdom… with my mate… the King. This was all too much. “What the hell, Serena?” My mother yelled. “Serena” my father gasped “what happened?” Warriors had started to surround the ar
Five years later…Laughter filled the room next door, followed by a hasty “shh!” by Nate.I shook my head in dismay, chuckling as I overheard the scene. I flipped the duvet off my legs, before shuffling my feet inside the slippers resting at my bedside.I tiptoed across the floorboards, desperately trying to not make a sound, before gently twisting the door to our bed chambers.I creeped along the hallway until I reached the door of our nursery. I quietly rested my head against the wooden frame, listening in to whatever was so amusing.“Ahhh!” Nate exclaimed, before being followed by a concerning loud thud. Giggles echoed thereafter, as footsteps of tiny feet could be heard pitter-pattering along the floorboards.Choosing to go with the element of surprise, I abruptly flung open the door before me. Suddenly, three pairs of alarmed eyes cast over me as they realised they’d been caught in the act.I folded my arms across my chest, pretending to be furious at what I had found. “Well well
“You’re pregnant?” Amber squealed, as she jumped up and down in excitement. “With a baby?” Terror overlooked Archie’s face, he was never much a kid person. “This is so exciting!” Maddie exclaimed, clapping her hands together repeatedly. I laughed loudly at each other their reactions, before placing my hand on Archie’s shoulder. “Yes, Archie. With a baby.” His eyes widened. “Oh goddess.” He muttered, before his eyes darted to the floor. Anyone would think it was him who was having a pup. “Could this day get any more special?” Maddie welled up beside me, wafting her hand against her face in order to protect her makeup. I gleamed as looked at each of my best friends, each so beautiful in their own way. We’d already faced so many challenges together and this would be another to add to the list. Maddie was right, today truly couldn’t become any more special. As Maddie and Amber donned their pale blue bridesmaid dresses, the realty of my future started to set in. This is what we had
Nate had insisted I went to see the nurse this morning, after experiencing continuous dizzy spells and waves of nausea since yesterday evening. I repeatedly told him I’d more than likely eaten something funny, but he wouldn’t settle with that reason. So after a huff and a puff, I stripped off my stubborn boots and finally agreed to see the nurse. Frankly, I think he needed the distraction anyway. So as Nate paced around the nurse’s office anxiously awaiting my blood results, I laid awkwardly on the hospital bed twiddling my fingers, trying not to bring the new hit of nausea I was suffering from to his attention. As the brunette nurse, I now knew was named Mary, reentered her office Nate threw his hands in the air with an exasperated sigh. “Finally!” He muttered, as he took his place back by my side. I rolled my eyes at his dramatics, choosing to ignore his impatience, even though we’d only be waiting approximately 6 minutes. I’d learnt to pick my battles with Nate, some comments j
It had been a draining couple of days since we finally revealed the truth. Questions had been coming at me from every possible direction from those trying to understand what being a hybrid truly meant, which typically resulted in me using some form of magic to demonstrate my capabilities. But the excitement was wearing down, as a new daunting reality started to set in. One that would leave an everlasting effect on my beloved mate. William’s execution day. After going back and forth over whether Nate had made the correct decision, he ultimately decided that he had. In his eyes, he knew it wasn’t right for his brother to escape the consequences another werewolf who had committed the same crimes would receive. So today was the day. Nate would finally say goodbye to his brother once and for all. But that wasn’t the only big event happening today. This morning I would be escorting my mother back to Midsummer, where she will temporarily take control of the throne until I have settled i
Serena’s POVNate tangled the ends of my hair around the tips of his fingers, as he gazed out our chamber’s window absentmindedly. The responsibility of choosing an appropriate punishment for his own brother, well it was never something he had expected to do.This time yesterday he had been expecting a warm family reunion once he had saved William from what he believed was a threat. Who could have guessed William was the real threat. He had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Other than support him in his decision, there wasn’t much I could do. Nate had to figure this one out on his own. Whatever decision he made, I’d stand by him. With a heavy sigh, he turned his head against the pillow and met my gaze. His eyes were sunken, dulled by the burden he bared. “I know what I’m going to do.” His lips formed a tight line.I gently placed my palm on his cheek, offering physical support. “Whatever it is, I’ll be right behind you.”His pupils dilated as a warm smile spread across his lip
Third Person’s POV Serena sobbed uncontrollably as she held her mate’s lifeless body, refusing to accept the fate she’d been handed. She pulled him in closer, stroking the side of his cheek as the tears from her weeps fell onto him one by one. She locked eyes with her mates so called brother. Anger seethed through her, bubbling in her veins every millisecond longer she watched Nate’s killer. “How could you do this?” She spat, venom laced in her voice. William sighed as his eyes darted to the ceiling. “Do you have any idea what it was like? Living in his shadow? Always Nate this, Nate that. He was so bloody perfect, I couldn’t possibly compare.” He gritted through his teeth as he relived the memories. William had always been jealous of the attention Nate had received. He had tried his very best to be the perfect prince for his father, putting in extra hours of combat training and studying until early hours of the morning, learning the perfect etiquette and the responsibilities bei
Third Person’s POV One by one the warriors were discreetly taken out. However, the more that went missing, the more likely it was for the remaining warriors to notice. They were running out of time, it wouldn’t take much longer for their presence to be revealed. It wasn’t the warriors noticing that would be the issue, it was the beckoning call they were likely to make to Skylar. As the bodies piled up behind the abandoned house, Maddie watched from afar as she waited for a signal or saw some form of distress. Hidden behind a overgrown hedge, neck deep in the woods, she desperately tried to remain as quiet as she could. She reminded herself repetitively of all that not only she was capable of, but the loved ones she was watching eliminate the threat. Whilst she was a powerful witch, she’d never actually had to use her powers in a fight before. So her hesitation… well, it was a little understandable. Just as the men set out to remove the final four warriors, one of them caught a gl
“Are you ready?” Nate asked, his voice was mellifluous and calm, slowly easing away my anxieties. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. His green emeralds bored into mine, flickering with determination.A comforting smile crept onto his lips, reminding me of his certainty. I nodded my head firmly, allowing the fire within the take the reign. “I’m ready.” I demanded. He quickly enveloped me into a tight hug, before capturing my cheeks in his palms and placing a hard, passionate kiss on my lips. This is what I was fighting for.“Go get her, baby girl. Remember, I’ll be close by the entire time. You aren’t doing this alone, we’re a team.” He promised, before softly placing his lips on my forehead one final time.“Leia, do your worst.” His voice echoed in my mind.“You don’t have to ask me twice.” She snorted, resulting in a laugh erupting from Nate.“I didn’t doubt it.” He confirmed. “Okay, update me as often as you can.”I glanced longingly at him once last time
“Alright.” Nate sighed as he released his grip around my waist. “But keep your mind link open so I can have regular updates.” He raised his brows as he narrowed his eyes at me. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at him, as I shook my head ever-so-slightly. “Like I would ever shut you out, wolfie.” I rummaged my fingers through his raven locks, before rising to my feet and offering him a final smile as I left the room and headed toward the academy dorms. “What do you think she looks like?” Leia blurted out suddenly as I dragged my feet against the gravel pathway. “Who?” I asked, knowing she couldn’t be asking about Betty. We’d unfortunately had the luxury of seeing her morbid face every day for the last few months. I couldn’t help but wonder what Nate had planned for her, she may have betrayed us but at the end of it all, she was still his family. Much to his dismay, whether he chooses to acknowledge that or not. “Who else? The wicked witch of the west.” Leia grumbled. I let out a l
