Chapter 3

Edward was not a poor man, as Elizabeth knew him to be. Instead, Edward was a Martian prince and the youngest general in the world who had been fighting for his country for the past five years. He is also known as the most incredible God of War.

Edward had deliberately hidden his identity all this time to find a future consort with a kind and virtuous heart. Elizabeth is the woman he loves and has been his wife for the past year. He hoped that Elizabeth could be his life companion when he ascended the throne as King of Mars.

On their wedding anniversary today, Edward planned to announce the good news to Elizabeth by giving her an ancestral heirloom given to him by the Queen Mother. But fate had other plans. Fate revealed Elizabeth's true nature.

In the silence of the car traveling at high speed, Edward decided to return to the palace. He would return to fulfill his duty as a prince, even if it meant accepting an arranged marriage he did not want.

Before returning to the palace, Edward returned to the company he had worked for for the past year, The Z.Y. Company, a real estate company, to resign. Edward's decision was the talk of the town among his colleagues. A red-haired female staffer approached Edward, who was packing up his belongings.

"Edward, are you serious about resigning?" she asked.

"Yes, why?" replied Edward briefly.

"Nothing. I'm just sad to see you, a man as handsome as you are, have to experience betrayal." She paused momentarily, then cynically, "You really can't see that your wife has left you for Mr. Steve, can you? That's why you resigned. Come on, you must realize that Edward, Mr. Steve, is worth more than this lowly you."

Hearing that hurtful comment, Edward remained calm. He had no intention of retaliating or explaining who he was. He just wanted to quickly finish his business in this company and return to the palace to prepare himself for his responsibilities as a prince.

Edward turned his gaze to the study of Steve, the man who had usurped his ex-wife. Remembering the man's face disgusted him, further emphasizing his hatred for them.

"Whatever my reasons are, they are none of your business," Edward replied before he walked away from the woman. But his steps were halted again when he met the company's CEO, a beautiful woman. The woman looked at him in surprise.

"Edward, where are you going?" asked Zayyana, the CEO and founder of The Z.Y. Company.

"I'm resigning from my job, Miss," Edward replied.

This beautiful woman with long, slightly curly hair looked at Edward with surprise and concern, which surprised Zayyana.

"Why did you suddenly decide to resign, Edward? Is there something wrong?" asked Zayyana in a concerned tone.

Edward smiled slightly, trying to calm himself down. "There's nothing wrong, Miss. It's just that I feel it's time to move on from my obligations."

Zayyana frowned, not understanding what Edward was saying. "If there are any problems, you can talk to me. We can find a solution together."

Edward nodded slowly. "Thank you for your concern, you. But my decision is made. I appreciate the time and opportunity I have been given while working here."

Before Zayyana could reply, a red-haired female coworker interrupted in a mocking tone. "No, Miss Zayyana. Edward is embarrassed that his wife chose to leave him for Mr. Steve." Lisa laughed as if what Edward was going through was a joke.

Zayyana looked at Lisa sharply, displeased by her disrespect. "That's no reason to laugh, Lisa. Everyone has the right to make their own life decisions."

Lisa paused, slightly taken aback by Zayyana's rebuke but still smiling sardonicly.

"How can you laugh at your own coworker's misfortune? Even if that's true, you should support Edward, giving him the understanding to be strong in his domestic trials. Not laugh at him!" Zayyana continued in a stern tone.

With her head bowed, Lisa apologized, "I'm sorry, Miss. I didn't mean to do that."

"Why apologize to me? Apologize to Edward, for you have offended him!" Zayyana scolded.

"I'm sorry, Edward. I made a mistake," Lisa said in a low voice.

Edward looked at her momentarily, then replied, "Yes, I forgive you."

Zayyana sighed, trying to refrain from reprimanding too harshly. "I wish you were more sensitive to the feelings of others, especially in situations like this. Edward needs our support as coworkers and friends." Lisa nodded as if understanding Zayyana's message.

"All right, now get on with your work. And you, Edward, come to my office now. I want to talk to you."

Edward nodded and followed Zayyana to her office. He wondered what his superiors wanted to talk about. Could Zayyana know more about him?
