Chapter 1

With his heart pounding, Edward rushed to the train station through a sea of people. He needed to get home as tonight was the night of his first wedding anniversary celebration with his wife, Elizabeth. Elizabeth had reminded him to come home early so that they could celebrate, and he kept his promise.

Edward glanced at his watch and quickly realized there wasn't much time to get home. Getting off the subway, he took off his expensive jacket and promptly pulled his suitcase to the car that picked him up. The housing complex was in sight, adding to his seriousness. Edward couldn't wait to get home and surprise his wife, Elizabeth.

He had prepared a beautiful and expensive blue gem bracelet that his ancestors had passed down as a gift for their wedding anniversary.

Edward quickly exited the car and walked into the house with a smile that might look strange to onlookers.

"Honey, I'm home," he called as he entered the house, but it looked deserted as if no one was home.

Edward tried to find his wife, thinking she was in her room and hadn't noticed his return. But when he was at the door, his steps stopped when he heard the sound of a woman laughing with a man. His heart pounded, trying to listen to their conversation.

"What's got you laughing so hard, dear?" asked the man in a familiar voice.

"Oh, nothing, just feeling funny," replied the voice he recognized as that of his wife, Elizabeth.

Edward's body froze in place, and his face instantly paled. I felt that something was not right. Was Elizabeth having an affair? No, that's not possible. Edward tried to reject his evil thoughts.

"Honey, I want to know, why are you still with that useless husband of yours? Didn't you promise me a divorce after I did everything you wanted?"

"I will divorce him immediately," Elizabeth replied confidently.

Elizabeth is having an affair. But why would she do that? What had she done wrong to make her act that way? These questions raged in Edward's mind.

"You mean you're going to divorce her soon? When? Don't take too long. I'm tired of our relationship like this," the man said in a low voice, which made Edward clench his fists even more furiously.

"As soon as I find the right reason to make me divorce her,"

"How about we tell her about our relationship?" continued Steve, a manager at the company Edward worked for.

"That's silly; I don't want to look bad in front of him; I pity his stupid face," Elizabeth replied.

Edward could no longer contain his disgust and hurt. He wanted so badly to push the door open and confront them. But Edward still held back, trying to hear what they were discussing.

"I heard he's going to be promoted. Is that true?" asked Elizabeth.

Steve responded to that statement with a loud laugh, then assured her that it would never happen. "That's not possible. He'll remain a lowly employee. I guarantee he won't get it," Steve replied with a sneer.

"Really? And what about Miss Zayyana? She seems to like Edward," Elizabeth asked again, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.

"Are you jealous?" Steve asked, smiling sarcastically.

"Jealous? Of course not. Why would I be jealous of him? I already have you and don't want anything else," Elizabeth assured him, though her heart felt uneasy.

"Besides, how could Lady Zayyana like a poor young man like him? Lady Zayyana is a beautiful and highly educated woman. She must be looking for a man equal to her position," Steve laughed as he looked at Elizabeth.

"You're right; she would hate him if she knew Edward was just an adopted child raised by a poor old woman who worked in a nightspot. That's so disgusting; how many men have enjoyed that old woman's body!" Elizabeth added in a dismissive tone.

Behind the door, Edward could no longer contain his anger at what Elizabeth had said about his foster mother. They had been married for a year, and their relationship had always been harmonious. They had even planned a honeymoon on their first wedding anniversary. But now, he felt betrayed. The trust that over a year was shattered instantly.

With full force, Edward kicked the bedroom door. The loud sound of the door opening startled Elizabeth and Steve.

"You disgusting woman, Elizabeth! How could you do this to me!" Edward roared, glaring at the two, who were panicked by his unexpected arrival.

"Damn, I thought who was coming, it was you. What are you doing coming like that? Didn't your master teach you any manners?" Steve mocked sarcastically, trying to hide his fear behind an arrogant demeanor.

Elizabeth was stunned, her face paled. "Edward, it's not what you think!"

"Oh, right? Then how should I think about it?" Edward replied with a voice trembling with anger. "I heard everything. You insulted my mother, and you betrayed me."

"Edward, please..." Elizabeth tried to speak, but Edward raised his hand, stopping her.

"No amount of apology can erase what you have said and done," Edward said firmly. "From now on, I don't want to see you again. We're done."

Edward turned and left the room, his heart burning with pain and disappointment.

"Yes, you're right; I did have an affair," Elizabeth said firmly, stopping Edward in his tracks.

"So, what do you want now? Divorce? Let's get a divorce as soon as possible. After all, I'm also tired of living with you, a poor man who can't make me happy."

Edward stopped and turned around, looking at Elizabeth with a cold gaze.

"I was too naive, too blind to fall for that poor man who only relies on your uselessly handsome face. You have nothing you can give me. No branded goods, no jewelry; all you gave me was a cheap pendant that you picked up from the trash; how disgusting!"

Elizabeth took off the pendant necklace around her neck and threw it at Edward.

"Here, take it back! I don't want to keep it anymore. Let's end our relationship; we're getting a divorce!"

Steve, who was nearby, saw an opportunity to worsen the situation. He gently held Elizabeth's waist and gave her a gentle peck on her bare back.

"Never mind, Edward, you'd better get out of here; we'll be meeting in court soon. Or do you want to watch us make love? I wouldn't mind. I'll show you how I fuck your wife over and over again until she is moaning passionately, calling my name passionately," Steve said in a defiant tone.

"Disgusting," Edward said as he came over and hit Steve with one hard punch that knocked Steve out.

"Edward, what are you doing?" Elizabeth panicked, trying to wake Steve up. "Steve, wake up! Why are you so weak? One punch and you're unconscious. Please, don't die now; I still need you." Elizabeth looked panicked at Steve's condition.

"Edward, you must take responsibility! I will sue you if anything happens to Steve!"

"Do it! Do what you want, Elizabeth," Edward snapped, his voice challenging and frightening. Despite the gentleness Edward had shown her for over a year, this was the first time she had seen Edward's face so scary when angry.

"Don't think I'm afraid of your threats. No, not at all. Even if I wanted to, I could kill him right now without being touched by the law, but I won't do it for a whore like you."

"Edward! Why are you so wicked? You insulted me with those words; aren't you self-aware? You are just a poor, useless man; you should die!"

Edward did not care at all and chose to leave. "Pick me up right now," Edward ordered the person he was currently in contact with through a phone call.

With steady steps, Edward left the house he had lived in for a year, followed by a row of luxury cars ready to pick him up.
