Chapter 1

"I'm sorry, but we don't have any seats left for you on the flight. Please get out." William Klein stood before me. He was my husband's colleague, Lester Sullivan, and the captain of the flight I was on.

He addressed me indifferently without even sparing my daughter a look.

My mom looked stunned. "There are seats! Your colleague said a few passengers gave up their seats for us."

William retorted flatly, "That was before this. No one wants to give up their seats now. Please get off this flight."

My mom anxiously pleaded, "Captain, that won't do. My granddaughter got into a car accident, and we needed to fly her out for surgery. We're in a great hurry. Please communicate with your passengers. Perhaps, some of them will give up their seats."

At first, I thought William would agree to help after we explained our dilemma. To my dismay, he shot us a heartless frown. "The little girl looks perfectly fine, though. Every passenger here is in a hurry to reach the destination. Please do not emotionally manipulate them into giving up their seats."

My daughter, Lily Sullivan, lay on top of me. Her breathing became more labored compared to before. Her cheeks were pale. Although she had gotten into a car crash, her wounds did not bleed at all.

In my past life, I thought Lily wasn't severely injured, not when she hopped around happily and showed her the gifts she bought.

However, the doctor looked grim at the sight of Lily. After a checkup, the doctor discovered that Lily's organs were crushed. She suffered from severe internal injuries even though she looked fine on the outside.

None of the local children's hospitals could offer Lily the surgery she needed, but they recommended we take a flight to another city and get Lily surgery at a major hospital to save her life.

The first thing I did after I was reborn was drive Lily to the airport, where I communicated my needs with the airport staff. They arranged a few seats for me, my mom, and Lily. Just as we were about to board the flight, William stopped us.

At that point, Lily was already shaking in pain. "Mom, it hurts so much."

My heart shattered into pieces. The sight of my daughter suffering brought me to tears.

My mom was more nervous than I was. She yelled at William, "Do you have a heart? My granddaughter is suffering from serious injuries, and you're stopping her from flying. I am gonna lodge a complaint against you!"

William looked unbothered by her threats. "Do whatever you want. I am the pilot, and I get to decide who takes my flight. If you refuse to vacate, I will call the police on you for being a public nuisance."

My mom nearly hit him, but I held her back. I handed Lily over to my mom and pulled out Lily's medical report from my bag.

I reasoned with William, "William, Lily is seriously injured. This is her medical report. Her internal organs are crushed, and she desperately needs surgery in another city. Please help us out here."

William initially looked surprised at the report, but he quickly laughed it off. "Florence Garland, you sure came prepared. Too bad Lester called us before this and told us about your little trick. You lied about your daughter being sick to get attention, and you went as far as to come up with a fake medical report. Do you not suffer from a guilty conscience?"

William could not contain his disgust toward me. As Lester's good friend, he was never friendly with me because he believed I had ruined Lester's life.

William's constant protests made me realize he didn't want Lily on the flight. Right as I was about to look for a manager at the airport to discuss putting Lily on another flight, Lily tugged at the hem of my shirt. Eyes brimming with a desire to live, she begged, "Mom, save me. I want to live."

Her impactful words made my mind go blank for a moment. Then, I dashed onto William's plane without a care.
