Chapter 3

I rushed down the plane and found Lily coughing up huge mouthfuls of blood as she rested on my mom's shoulder. Not only that, Lily convulsed uncontrollably.

Losing my mind, I asked Mom to place Lily on a flat ground. I turned Lily's head to the side and reached into her mouth to prevent her from biting her tongue.

Lily lost a lot of blood. Her blood spilled across the ground, staining my clothes and my mom’s.

When William appeared from the plane, Mom rushed over to beg for his help. "Mr. Klein, please save Lily. You held her in your arms when she was little, and she used to call you 'Uncle William'. You can't possibly watch her die!"

My mom's pleas and the messy scene finally swayed William. He was about to check on Lily when a call came in. He answered the call, "Hey, Lester. How's Margot doing?"

My mom and I heard Lester's voice loud and clear because William accidentally put the call on speaker mode.

Lester's voice filled the air. "We're at the hospital now. How are things on your end? Has Florence brought Lily onto the plane?"

William shot Lily a look. "They're here, but Lester, I don't think Lily is acting. She coughed up a lot of blood."

"Nah, she's faking it. Florence must have prepared blood bags. You fell for it."

My mom lost her temper at Lester's words. "Lester Sullivan, do you have a heart? Not only are you not with Lily when she's fighting for her life, but you are stopping your colleagues from flying Lily out for her surgery!"

"I can't stand you for wasting public resources," Lester snapped coldly as if we had committed a heinous crime.

He reminded William, "Make sure those three don't board the plane. Otherwise, something bad might happen. I know my daughter the best."

With that, he hung up.

The disconnected tone of the phone was like a countdown to death, announcing that my daughter would never have a chance to board the plane.

Tears began to fall uncontrollably from my eyes. When I turned around, I saw Lily was awake and staring at me.

Alarmed, I assumed she must have heard the phone conversation just now.

I grasped her hand and attempted to explain the situation, but she asked, "Mom, what does Dad mean? Does he want me to die?"

I couldn't stop my tears from falling as I comforted her in a panic, "No, not at all. Dad was joking."

"If flying is the only way I can get better, and if Dad is a pilot, why can't I board the plane?"

I had no answer to that question.

William walked over and said coldly, “You heard it. Lester is at the hospital now. There's no point putting on a show here."

I was about to retort when Lily's eyes suddenly widened. Her breathing grew rapid. A few seconds later, she stopped breathing entirely.

My heart sank. Her lungs must have collapsed!

I ran into the plane and headed right to the business class cabin, where I fell onto my knees before a woman. "Dr. Whitman, I know you're a pulmonologist. My daughter's lungs have collapsed. Please save her life!"

I met Colleen Whitman in my past life as well. Colleen had kindly extended help when Lily's lungs collapsed on the flight, and she saved Lily's life.

Without wasting time, Colleen and I hurried out of the cabin. William, who knew Colleen personally, looked even more irritated when he realized I had called an expert. Frowning, he confronted me, "Florence, you've crossed a line. How long are you going to put on this ridiculous show?"

He addressed Colleen, "Dr. Whitman, that woman is faking it. Please return to your seat. We will take off shortly after this."

Unlike William, who knew nothing about medicine, Colleen immediately sensed that my daughter was in danger. She pulled out a stethoscope and checked on Lily before summoning her team members to perform first aid.

At the same time, Colleen looked through Lily's medical report I shared with her. After that, she stared straight at William. She spoke to him in an authoritative manner, "I advise you to make space for this little girl. If she doesn't get the help she needs in two hours, she'll be gone."
