Chapter 7

Garrett sighed, itching his head and placing his left hand on his waist it was quite glaring that Sheila was still mad at him, he watched as she excitedly kissed the flowers, sniffing them severally, and holding them so dear to herself without even thanking him. She Practically and intentionally ignored him.

He wanted to make it up to her but he didn’t know how to do that. He needed her to be happy at least to win her trust. They continued walking in silence before Garrett finally broke the silence.

“Sheila, I know you are mad at me but I’ve said I’m sorry.”

“Garrett, I just need my things back. That’s the only thing that can make me happy at this point. Let’s go get my things back. Please, Garrett, I’m begging you.” she pleaded.

“Listen to me Sheila, it’s very risky for us to go back because you won’t be safe out there. Whatever I do, I do for your own good. Remember, I promised you a good life, I promised to protect you, I promised to keep you away from harm and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Please, understand me.”

Sheila had no idea of what sort of protection Garrett was talking about. ‘For goodness sake she isn’t a criminal neither is the police finding her wanting’ she thought. ‘so who is Garrett protecting her from?’ she wondered.

She begs and begs but Garrett doesn’t agree. He disagreed without any remorse.

“Garrett…,” she wailed.

“It’s okay Sheila,” he sighed. “I will send someone to go back for it but definitely not with you.” he retorted. And they begin to trek down into the woods to get to Garrett’s pack.

She is sad as they begin to walk because everything she has of her mother has been left behind.

Camellia couldn’t just move on acting like nothing has happened. Sheila’s disappearance got her worried and devastated. Camelia had taken Sheila in when Sheila lost her mother in a fatal accident. To give her the care and guidance she needed to be happy She also got a job for Sheila, but unfortunately, she couldn’t do enough to help Sheila.

She tried her best to make Sheila heal and feel loved. She blamed herself for everything saying that she wasn’t good enough for Sheila.

She felt Sheila’s absence so much. Eva felt bad that she would never be able to set her eyes on Sheila anymore as the Agent and his men had said earlier, Sheila would have been eaten by a creature in the forest. ‘But whatever happened to Sheila was for my own good’ Eva chuckled.

It was her disappearance that made her path cross with Agent Jacob Books. If Sheila had not gotten missing, Eva’s path would never have crossed with that of Jacob Books. Eva grinned, while serving milkshakes.

“Hey madam, where is Sheila?” a customer had asked. He asked camellia whose head was bowed on the counter. She was absent minded so the man got no response from her.

He walked to the counter, tapping her gently. “Hey Camelia, are you alright?” he quizzed.

“Yea,” she replied feigning a smile.

“Okay, but you don’t look like you are fine and I can’t find Sheila anywhere.” He blurted.

Camelia’s heart beat raced on hearing the name Sheila. Her countenance changes and the man notices it. “I just want to apologize to Sheila for the way I shouted at her the other day, I heard that she’s an orphan. I was wrong to had spoken to her the way I did.” He stated.

Camelia looked at him closely recognizing him to be the man that Sheila had mistakenly poured milkshakes on when she tripped.

“Oh poor Sheila!” Camelia broke down in tears running away from the counter. Eva who had been seeing all that was happening walked up to the man telling him about Sheila’s disappearance. He felt really bad for speaking to her rudely the other day, he should have treated her nicely and now, he never gets the opportunity to apologize to her.

“Have the police been informed?” he quizzed.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, the forest has been ransacked by the police but Sheila is not seen anywhere.” Eva replied.

“Okay, so what if she never went to the forest?” he asked, trying to investigate the matter in his own little way.

“We are certain that she got lost in the forest and might have been eaten up by a creature.” She retorted.

“What makes you so certain?” he inquired, looking into her eyes.

“We found a ring of hers in the forest when we went looking for her.” she stated.

“Okay,” he said, nodding his head. “So do you have the ring? I mean, can I see it?” he requested.

“Unfortunately sir, we lost the ring!” she replied. His questions were too much and Eva was beginning to get irritated by it.

“Okay, thanks for your response.” He smiled, walking out of the diner. He had also taken some notes.

Eva sighed, rolling her eye balls.

Camelia wasn’t in a good state of mind so she continues serving the milkshakes all by herself even though it was stressful. Soon, the news of Sheila’s disappearance spread like wild fire in the diner.

Everyone kept talking about it. Camelia and Eva kept receiving different questions as to how Sheila got missing. Camelia tries as much as possible to put herself together, she spends some moments in the bathroom wiping her tears and trying to look all good when Eva suddenly barged in.

“Ma’am, the media are here!” Eva informed looking anxious. “What do they want?” Camelia quizzed.

“They say they need to have a word with you, if you don’t come now, they may come in here.” She said.

Camelia sighed. For some inexplicable reasons, Camelia’s mind went blank. ‘how will she face the crowd? What will she say to them? What kind of questions were they going to ask her? will she be able to answer all of their curiosity? How will she face the camera?’ a lot of questions went through her mind.

“Ma’am, please be strong, I’m with you in this.” Eva says, comforting Camelia with emotions in her eyes.

“Thank you!” she sighed, confidently walking to meet the media.

“Madam. We heard that you are Sheila’s guardian. Is that true?” that was the first question being thrown at her by a middle aged man.

“Yes that’s true, I am sheila’s guardian,” she responded, after a sigh not knowing the next question she will be asked. “Okay madam, so What do you know about the disappearance of Sheila?” another man asked. “Were you maltreating her? did you for any reason scold or hit her? why did she run away you’re your house? Does she have a boyfriend? Did you ever take advantage of her being an orphan? Where do you think she is right now? Is it true that she’s dead? Do you think she is still alive?” these are few of the questions the media was throwing at her. she became scared and overwhelmed. She kept moving back but the more she moved back, the closer they got to her. Her heart beats raced and she began feeling dizzy.

She grabbed her head with her both hands breathing heavily. Eva sees that and rushes to get a hold of her. “All of you should get out! Stay away from her can’t you see that she’s not feeling well?” Eva yells, but the media wouldn’t listen. “Don’t you hear me? I said leave her alone, stay away from her!” Eva kept yelling, dragging Camelia into the room.

Agent Jacob Books arrived just in time, introducing himself to the crowd. He addresses the media narrating to them all that had happened. He urges them to leave the premises which they did.

Camelia had passed out and was taken care of until she regained consciousness. She decided not to open the diner for a period of time as everyone is tensed and she’s not in a good state of mind.

She appreciates Eva and Agent Jacob Books for their act of kindness toward her.

“No, it’s nothing. Please take care of yourself, I’ll be on my way now!” he informed. Eva sees him off and he drove away. She stared at his car until it was out of sight.

Heaving a sigh, she decides to stay with Camelia for a while before retiring to her room. “Thank you so much, Eva!’ Camelia smiled, still laying on the bed.

“No ma’am, it’s nothing compared to what you have done for me.” Eva chuckled.

Camelia sighed looking away from Eva.

“Eva,” she gently calls her name.

“Yes ma’am,” Eva who has been thinking about Jacob cheerfully replied. “What do you think about me? tell me the truth please, do you think I’m a bad person?” Camelia asked, as tears rolled down her cheeks.

Eva understands why Camelia had asked such question.

“No ma’am, you are not a bad person at all. as a matter of fact, you the one of the nicest person I’ve ever met.” Eva replied, giving Camelia an emotional look.

She really felt pity for her boss. “Thank you so much Eva!” she tries to smile but her face was contorted with pain. Her heart is heavy and she stares at the celling.

She remembers something again. “Eva,” she called out again, this time a bit louder. “Yes ma’am,” Eva replied.

“Are you seeing Agent Jacob Books?” she quizzed, fixing her gaze on Eva. Eva blushed, covering her face with her hands. Her reaction could tell what the answer is. “Yes ma’am,” she replied. Nodding her head.

“Okay darling, please take good care of yourself.” She said smiling broadly.

Eva thanks her so much assuring her that she will.

Garrett and Sheila kept walking in silence until Garrett points to the border of his pack, the moon shine pack. She wonders if his people would like her. the closer they get to the pack, the more scared and anxious she became. She had never left home, this happened to be her first time. She wondered what kind of people she was going to meet and how they lived their lives. She couldn’t keep shut any longer so she decides to ask Garrett.

“Garrett,” she softly calls his name but he didn’t respond. He ignored her just as she had ignored him earlier. “Garrett,” she calls his name again. This time more gently and tender.

“Yes my Luna, what is it?” he quizzed.

“I’m worried and scared!” she said, standing on a spot. “What is making you scared my Luna?” he inquired. The more he calls her his Luna, he more confused and scared she got. She had no idea of what a Luna is. Even the name sounded strange to her hearing.

“Garrett, do you think your people will like me?” she quizzed, looking anxious.

“Of course they will!” he assures, nodding his head. “Common let’s keep walking.” He said, trying to hold her hand but she refuses.

‘Garrett,” she calls his name again.

“I’m scared!” she uttered, giving a sad look.

“Common Sheila! You don’t need to be scared. Why are you scared when your hero is here with you!” he chortled showing off his muscles which got Sheila laughing. “Common my Luna, lets keep walking.” He said. “We are almost there.”

“I’m not convinced. I didn’t think about this properly!” she stated, folding her arms and turning her back. “Sheila! I’ve told you over and over again to trust me. common I will take care of you, the people will love you and you will definitely live a happy and free life.” He said, gently holding her from aback and unfolding her arms.

“Are you sure about this?” Sheila asked.

“Of course I am.” He replies.

“So what happens if they don’t like me?” she asked, turning to him and looking at him eye balls to eye balls.
