Chapter 5

“Yes I really want to know who you are.” Sheila replied, without any form of hesitation.

“Okay, I can see how curious you are. But just so you know, your curiosity won’t do you much good.” He chortled.

For some inexplicable reasons, Sheila’s mind went completely blank as she couldn’t comprehend what Garrett meant by telling her that her curiosity won’t do her much good.

The room was silence for a while before Garrett finally broke the silence.

“If you really want to know who I am, then you will have to come with me.” Garrett informed.

“But why?” Sheila quizzed. “Why will I have to come with you?”

Garrett beamed and gave a simple response. He says, “It’s because you are my Luna.”

“Luna? Sheila whispered, confused, looking directly at the tiled floor as if the floor was going to explain something to her.

Garrett saw how confused Sheila was. She was speechless for a while, trying to recall and fix all that had happened maybe, just maybe they would make sense to her. but unfortunately, everything was complicated and hard to understand.

Wait! I might be dreaming or hallucinating as usual. She thought. Giving herself a little pinch to be sure if everything was really happening.

“Sheila, everything is complicated and hard to understand. But please, don’t stress yourself. The good thing Is that I have finally found you and I will never let you go. I care for you so much and will never hurt you or let anyone hurt you. I promise I will protect you and keep you safe. I can assure you that you have no reason to worry. Trust me!”

There was a bit of silence after which he asked her if she wasn’t tired of the loneliness she is facing here.

He offered to provide her with comfort and stability if she eventually comes with him, and that he will answer all her questions if she does.

She stared at him for a while as nothing was making sense to her. “Who are you and why on earth do I have to come with you?” she asked again.

“Sheila, I’ve told you before and I will tell you again, you are coming with me because you are my Luna.” He reiterated.

“What does it means to be a Luna?” she quizzed. The name Luna sounded strange to her. she had no idea of what it means.

“You will have to come with me to get the rest of your questions answered.” He retorted.

“I promise to take good care of you. Now that I have found you, there is no possibility that I will ever leave you. Sheila, trust me and live a happy and free life. The kind of live you’ve always wished for lies in you being my Luna. Come with me. my lady.” Garrett said. Offering her a hand. She stares at his hand for a while, contemplating if to oblige or not. She looked into his eyes if at all she could trust him. She had a careful think about Garrett’s offer of help to her. she couldn’t fathom Garrett reasons for wanting to help her.

It could be for his selfish reasons. she thought. Her mind flashed back to the wolf she had seen in the woods and she finally recollects that Garrett’s eyes and that of the wolf looked similar. He pleaded with her some more to come home with him and be his Luna and after some moments of consideration, she finally obliged. Placing her hand on his.

“I will come with you; I will be you Luna.” She blurted.

She saw the smile on Garrett’s face, and smiled back at him hoping she had made the right decision and never to regret it.

“We will take our flight first thing tomorrow morning.” He informed.

“I can’t wait.” Sheila replied, grinning at him.

They left Sheila’s apartment and went to stay in a small hut nearby. Garrett gathered some woods, lighting them up to generate heat for Sheila to warm herself up.

She really had a long and hectic day.

“Early to bed, early to rise,” Garrett said, carrying Sheila on his arms. He laid her down somewhere not comfortable enough but just to pass the night.

“Please, make sure you get some sleep. We have a long day tomorrow.” He reminded.

“Yeah I will, and you too.” She said.

Garrett smiled on hearing that.

“Sleep?” he grinned.

“Why are you laughing? Don’t you sleep?” Sheila asked.

Sheila who was naïve asked silly questions out of her ignorance. She had no idea that wolves are nocturnal, meaning that, as opposed to humans, they are awake at night and sleep all day long!

“Soon, you will understand better.” He blurted. Rubbing her hair and trying to make her fall asleep.

It took Sheila some time to sleep because she had a reminisce of how her day went.

She had a loud laugh, remembering she had seen Garrett naked.

“Sheila, what is making you laugh?” he quizzed smiling.

“Nothing serious,” she replied.

“Okay, let me tell you a story. I think it will help you sleep.” Garrett said.

That was the last thing Sheila heard before she finally fell asleep.

Garrett smiled, seeing that she had slept off. He stared at her for a while and gently kissed her forehead.

Garrett walked out of the hut seeing that Sheila was fast asleep. He looked up to the sky, he knew the moon would be full anytime soon.

He wouldn’t want to be caught unprepared. He began to run towards a cave close by. He ran as fast as he could sensing the transformation. All the signs had occurred already and he didn’t want to hurt anyone.

Unknown to him Sheila was spying and following him. He got to the cave shutting the door behind him with a padlock.

“Sheila!!! Sheila get away from here.” He yelled.

“No, I won’t leave you.” She replied almost in tears.

Garrett had no time so he quickly handcuffed himself to a chain that was buried in the cemented floor which was connected to a big stone buried under the ground.

“Sheila, get out of here!!” he yelled. But she refused to listen to him.

“Garrett, what is happening to you?” she wailed.

“Please just leave Sheila. I don’t want to hurt you!!” he echoed, as his voice changed.

Sheila didn’t leave, she watched as his eyes turned completely green.

“Arrrgggggghhhh,” he yelled, as all the veins in his body became visible including the ones on his neck and forehead.

His face turned red and all the muscles in his body became quite glaring.

She watched Garrett as he completely turned into a wolf and struggling to free himself.

She opened her mouth and eyes wide in shock. Covering her mouth with her both hands.

He struggled to get himself off the chains that had held him bound.

She took to her hills. Seeing how aggressive Garrett has become. She went back to the hut breathing heavily.

She couldn’t believe what her eyes had seen.

She stayed awake all through the night thinking about what she had seen. She never believed that wolves truly existed.

She could only imagine what Garrett was going through. The urge to go back to the cave was so strong on her.

At this point, she thought of going back to Camelia. Somehow, she missed the diner.

Camelia would be very worried about her. she thought.

She took a deep breath. Pondering on what to do.

On one hand is her dream of living a free and happy life. On the other is to return back to Camelia.

She was devastated and confused. She gently laid her head to sleep and after a while, she fell asleep.

It was day break. Sheila woke up as a result of the chirpings of the birds.

She stretches her body and gently opened her eyes only to see Garrett staring at her.

“What the fuck!!” she exclaimed.

“Good morning, Sheila.” He greeted. Acting like nothing happened the previous night.

“Common, get up. Our flight will be ready in the next few minutes.” He informed.

Sheila sluggishly stood up. Still feeling sleepy though, but Garrett was able to hold her hand as they walked together.

They took a plane from lost peak, Montana to concord, North Carolina.

She thought about the new life and new people she would meet. She couldn’t wait to get off the plane.

She stole glances at Garrett. She had thousands of questions to ask him. But she knows for sure that he wouldn’t give her any response so she decides to hold her peace.

**********

The search party organized by agent Jacob books carried out the search in the forest.

The forest was ransacked but there was no glimpse of Sheila anywhere. They lost one of their members to a strange creature who had attacked them.

“I’m so sorry madam, we searched everywhere in the forest but it’s so unfortunate that there is no sign of Sheila anywhere. In the process of that, we lost one of our men during the search and we can’t afford to lose anyone else.” Agent Jacob books reported, breaking the disheartening news to Camelia.

“If at all Sheila had been in the woods like you all assumed,” he continued. “she must have been devoured by some sort of creature.” He added.

“In order not to keep your hopes high, I must say this; the possibility of Sheila being alive is very slim.” He concluded.

Camelia broke down in tears even before he completed his statement. She held unto her chest, she could feel her heart beating out of her chest.

Agent Jacob Books turned to Eva who had been staring and admiring him. “Get a hold of her please!” he said, but Eva was absent minded.

“Eva!” he called out, with a snap of his finger which distracted her imaginations and brought her back.

“Yes,” she replied. She felt goosebumps and a sweet sensation hearing him call her name. At least, he knows my name. she thought.

“Please, take care of Camelia, I will be on my way now.” He informed. Walking out of the diner.

“Ma’am, please get a hold of yourself. I will be right back.” Eva said, leaving Camelia all alone.

She dashes out to meet Agent Books.

“Good afternoon, sir.” She curtsied.

“Eva. we’ve greeted before.” He replied, bringing out a piece of paper and pen.

“Any news about Sheila?” he quizzed. Ready to take notes.

“No.” Eva replied.

“Okay, so what is it? Does Camelia wants to see me?”

“No,” Eva replied, still staring at him.

“Okay, so what is it? I’m listening.”

Her heart beat raced as she stood before him.

Eva took the pen and paper from him penning down some notes.

She handed the written note over to him which he quickly read. “I like you and I really want to be your friend.” Was what was written in there.

Agent Jacob Books couldn’t stop himself from laughing. He stood there laughing for a while before he finally entered his car and drove off without saying a word to Eva.

Eva stood still feeling embarrassed. She had just disgraced herself- she thought. She blamed herself for not considering that possibility. She angrily walked back into the diner.

‘He is so proud and arrogant’ she thought.

Camelia locked herself up in a room. ‘She has failed as a guardian’. She wailed.

She couldn’t stop herself from crying. She blamed herself for all that has happened to Sheila. She vowed never to forgive herself for that.

She cried until she felt her eyes was going to fall out of its socket. Her eyes were swollen and her face became red.

‘What will people say when they find out that Sheila got missing under her roof?’ She thought. They may assume her to be a horrible woman.

Many thoughts flooded her mind. She cried until she finally fell asleep.
