Ash’s point of view

I walk into the Firepit with my hood pulled over my face, trying to stay hidden from the massive crowd. JD is on the door tonight; he lets me into the club with a nod of his head; I keep my head down as I make my way to the back rooms. The place is packed to the rafters, and most of the crowd is hoping to get a glimpse of Killer.

"Killer" Yeah, that's me. Although I don't usually go for the kill, I am pretty happy with a KO in the first round, my quickest KO being 3.4 seconds; the name Killer was given to me after one of my early fights ended badly. That night will haunt me for the rest of my days, but you must accept the risks that come with the underground fights.

I finally make my backstage, away from the crowds; the other fighters greet me, this is my club, and I know each and every person that trains here. They are my family. Stella spots me as I walk in; I guess I am easy to spot when I stand at six feet and five inches; she grins as she walks over, holding a large glass out to me. "Thanks, Stella," I say as the liquid burns the back of my throat.

"Anytime, boss." She replies as she gives me a cheeky wink before she walks away with a sway of her hips. I laugh, Stella might be hot, but she likes to spread herself around, and I'm getting far too old for that shit.

Don't get me wrong, I am no saint, and I like a bit of female company to warm my bed at night, but Stella has been through most of the guys at the Firepit, so much so that the guys have started to compare notes. I have also heard she made a bet that she could get me in bed next. For the sake of my sanity and my health, there is no way I'm going down that road.

Stan, my best friend and co-fighter, makes his way over to me, laughing at Stella's antics. "I'm glad I'm a married man." He says, still chuckling. I laugh as I pat his back. "If you were still single, I'm sure you wouldn't tap that either."

I sit with Stan as we watch the early fighters; most of these are just young lads rising through the ranks. Most of them run away from the big cities that the vampires rule; without this club and these fights, these kids would be nothing but blood servants—forced to give their blood to keep the vampires alive. God, do I detest those bloodsuckers.

Though maybe I should be glad as this agreement has kept the vampires from killing, I hate to see these kids lined up, having their blood taken by force; they may be free to carry on with their lives, but the vampire leaves them weak and anaemic, and it boils my blood. There is also the fact that people are still going missing, and these people are never to be found again. Then, there are the rumours of the vampires' taking humans by force for servants, and the sickest rumour of them all is humans are being kept for pets by the new age vampires.

The older vampires kept to the rules, and these rules were mostly unbroken, but these younger vampires think that they can take whatever they want from humans. This is how the Firepit started, I believe everyone should know how to keep themselves safe, and everyone should have the knowledge of knowing how to kill a vampire. Every fighter in this club knows how to defend themselves from the vampires and how to kill a vampire if they run out of options. The club is growing in strength and numbers as the kids come to us for help, especially now there is a new vampire king; it is believed he killed his own father to claim his throne; whether it's true or not, I don't know.  I do know these vampires are getting restless, and it's only a matter of time before they come out from the city walls looking for new blood.

I help Stan tape his wrists as he gets ready for his fight. He has a big fight tonight as next month is the championships; Stan is more than ready, though. I tie his gloves, patting him on his back as we make our way into the ring.

The crowd spots me and begins to chant my name. “Killer, Killer, Killer”

I growl, annoyed that they would do this on Stan's big night, but Stan just shrugs his shoulders with a grin. He may be a big man with a big punch, but he is just such a laid-back guy; nothing brings him down. Stan, the man, takes down his man with a KO in the second round, not that I expected anything else; the man is in his prime.

We head backstage as I get ready for my own fight; tonight, I take on the Phantom, the man is as big as his reputation, but tonight I will lay his reputation on the floor alongside his pride. They don't call me Killer for nothing…

The crowd goes wild when they call my name; Stan laughs as he helps me into my black gown…. "Damn, listen to that crowd."

He says as we walk through the mass of bodies, everyone desperate to reach out and get a touch of Killer. I see the Phantom in my line of vision, my eyes holding his stare; I won't back down his tactics won't work with me; he turns his head away as I laugh…...

The crowd chants as I clear the ropes in one swift jump as the bell goes for the first round. Five-point, two seconds later, and the phantom lies at my feet.

"Killer, Killer, Killer."

I raise my hands in victory as my eyes scan the crowd.....eyes meet hers.

The most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life; there is something about her though, an air of vulnerability; her frightened eyes catch mine before she turns her head away from me as she backs into the crowd. Jumping over the ropes, I head in her direction, but she is gone.

Damn, who is she? And why is she at the Firepit? I have to find her……….

Ash's point of view I search the Firepit, but she is gone, but those eyes still haunt me. As I make my way backstage, Stan is waiting for me; he looks at me as he asks. "You okay, Jax?" "Yeah" Is all I manage to say, my thoughts still consumed by her beautiful face. Stan does not press me for anymore, although he knows that something is troubling me as he places a large glass in front of me. I empty its contents feeling the burn as it hits the back of my throat. Even though I don't have any more fights this week, I spend every night at the Firepit searching through the crowd for her, but she is never there. Maybe it was just my imagination playing tricks on me. No, she was far too beautiful to be my imagination. I have never seen a woman as beautiful as her in my life, but it was her eyes that I was drawn to, they look almost soulless, empty, and lifeless, and for some reason, I find myself wanting to help this beautiful woman. I need to find out who she is and why she was here.

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 3

Ash’s point of view. I call a meeting, bringing in every single badass I know, every fighter not only from the Firepit but from every undergoing fighting club around. Along with all my old army buddies from near and far, they all agree with me that this new-age Vampire King, as he likes to call himself, alongside his Queen and his army of bloodsuckers, must be stopped. The Firepit is filled to the brim; as we discuss how to bring the bloodsuckers down, and we all agree after the championships, we will move out and hunt this King down; we only have two weeks to prepare ourselves now, two weeks to make a factory full of pure silver bullets and daggers.I want that King's head on a plate. I want him to pay for each and every life he has taken, every young person's dream he has finished, and for every human he has the audacity to call a pet. Maybe I will keep his Queen in a cage as a memento, my own little vampire pet. When the meetings finished and the alcohol flows, I am still grinn

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 4

Ash's point of view I groan as I try to open my eyes, my head feels like I have been hit by a brick, and my mouth is so dry; where the hell am I? I wonder as I look around. A fucking cage; I'm locked in a cage like an animal. Oh, the irony of it all; I cannot help but laugh as I think of the silver cage I was having built especially for the Queen. Standing up on shaky legs, I'm grateful my cage is at least big enough to stand up in. I check out the lock, but it is locked...; of course, it's locked, and the heavy metal does not move an inch. It makes me wonder what metal they have used, looking around this lavish room. I would guess it being pure gold. This must be the biggest bedroom I have ever seen in my whole life, and it's lavishly decorated in purple and gold drapes. The massive bed sits on a raised platform in the middle of the room, underneath a gold mirrored ceiling. It makes me wonder just how rich these royal vampires are. I sigh, knowing there is no escape, at least f

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 5

Ash's point of view My heart breaks as I watch her fall asleep, exhausted from the brutal beating that she just received, still lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood. The King looks at me with a sickening grin on his face; I hold his eye, vowing to get my revenge for this beautiful woman who lies broken on the floor. He leaves the room with a laugh, leaving her lying where she is. I watch her as she sleeps, unable to take my eyes off her as I try to figure out what is going on. One thing that I do know. She is not the cruel Queen that we are all led to believe she is, and all I can do for the time being is wait for her to wake up before I can get some answers from her. For the first time in my life, I find myself thankful for vampire healing powers as I watch the welts lesson on her delicate skin...A couple of hours later and I hear her let out a groan before she opens her eyes, I wish I could reach out to her, but she is too far away from me. She quickly covers herself up

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 6

Ash's point of view. I've spent the whole afternoon talking to Queen Anna, and the more she tells me, the harder my heart breaks for her; she has no life living with the King; he took her away from her family, her home, from everyone she loved, she has a few friends in the palace staff that she can trust, but she's lonely and scared, and she wears her heart in her sleeve. She jumps when a bell sounds in the palace, and I look up as I ask. "What the hell is that?" She lowers her head and whispers. "The King is back." Before she runs to slip on her shoes as she says. "I have to go; he expects everyone to greet him when he comes home." And with that, she's gone to stand in line and greet her husband along with the rest of the palace staff; she's just as much a slave to him as I am. I clench my fists in anger; this whole situation is so fucked up that it makes my blood boil. I don't see her for the next few hours, and I find it strange that I feel worried for her, making me wonde

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 7

Ash's point of view. It's crazy how quickly your life can change one minute; I'm a champion fighter, and the next, I'm a pet, kept in a cage and walked on a lead. I shrug, the thought from my mind. The next few days are all about finding out the King's weakness, his army of bloodsuckers and my way around the Palace so that I can plan my next move. I don't need to worry about Stan and the rest of the fighters. My most loyal friends will know where to find me when I plan my escape. The Queen doesn't speak a word as she leads me into a waiting limo; I know from the look on her face she's not happy treating me this way. I go to sit on one of the seats; Anna yanks the lead shaking her head as her eyes look to the floor."Oh, right, I forgot I'm only her pet tonight."I sink to the floor of the limo as she lets out a sigh of relief before King Areon joins us. He smirks when he sees me sitting on the floor before he says."I do hope your Pet is going to behave tonight. I would hate to have t

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 8

Ash's point of view I look at Anna as she smiles; damn, she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life; this is the first time that I have seen her smile, and it's beautiful. Her eyes light up with hope and freedom. I don't know, but her smile is just…. Wow! I take her hand in mine, knowing that we need to get to the safe house as soon as we possibly can. It is the only way I can guarantee her safety. Shit, we have a lot of ground to cover, and much of it is rough terrain. I look at her in her designer dress and ridiculously high heels. This is going to be hard on her. I look at her as I say. "Give me your shoes." She hands them over with a frown, and I break off the heels hoping that it will make the trek a little easier for her. There is not much I can do with the dress, though, handing the shoes back as I go to take off my jacket as I say. "Are you cold.?" Anna begins to giggle as she pushes that jacket back at me as she says, "You're going to need that more

  • The Hidden King and I    Chapter 9

Chapter 9Ash's point of view."I need blood", she whispers before she collapses in my arms."Anna," I shout as I desperately try to wake her up. Fuck, this is not good. I don't have time to hunt for a blood source; there's only one thing I can do to keep her alive. With my heart in my mouth, I race into the kitchen, taking a knife from the drawer before running back into the bedroom and bringing the blade down as I slash across my palm."Fuck."I let out a groan of pain as the blade pierces my skin before placing my hand over her mouth and forcing her lips open as I let the blood trickle inside, praying that it somehow gets into her body.It seems like an eternity before she finally flickers her eyes open as she sucks greedily on my blood; her eyes go wide when she realises where the blood is coming from. She lets out a groan before she leans over the side of the bed and throws up all over the floor."Are you okay?" I ask as I look at her, not knowing what the hell is going on."Yeah

Once I'm dry, I slip into his t-shirt, which drops to my knees, before pulling his boxers on; he looks at me as he says,“I like you in my clothes; everyone knows that you are mine.”Which makes me giggle as I say, “I think they all know I’m yours by now, Ash.” He smiles.“You were always meant to be mine, Anna,” he says before taking my hand as he leads me back along the narrow ledge to the balcony, which is thankfully still empty, and we step back through the gate unnoticed.
