ETHAN'S POINT OF VIEW
Fuck! The slap still burned my cheeks. I hadn't expected someone as soft as Lexi to have such strong hands, hands strong enough to make my cheeks hurt this much. I stood there, my fingers grazing my cheek where her palm had struck, the heat lingering like I've been branded with a branding iron. The echo of her threat—"I’ll cut your hands off"—played in my head on a loop, each syllable sharper than the last. I should’ve been furious. I should’ve fucking stormed after her, and demanded her to take the words back, and reminded her who the hell I was. But all I felt was... weakness. It was as if my legs had suddenly forgotten how to move, how to walk and all I did was stand there like a statue. The elevator doors had long since closed behind me, sealing me in this sterile hallway, the silence pressing in like a weight. All of a sudden— Brrrring. Brrrring. The shrill sound of my phone shattered the quiet. I didn’t move. I didn't even blink. Not when my mind was occupied with the image of Lexi's face, the hatred in her eyes, the disgust. Everything. Therefore, I let the phone ring to the end. Whoever it was could wait for heaven's sake. I sighed in relief when the call stopped and everywhere was back to its normal silence. But not long after, the phone dinged again. I gritted my teeth in anger. “Leave the fuck alone.” I yelled, even though I didn't know who was at the end of the phone. Yet, I didn't bother to check it out. I let it ring to the end. I really didn't want to be disturbed by any stupid calls right now. Not when I was still contemplating on going after Lexi or not. I don't care if my father was right inside the house. All I wanted to do was to go in there and claim her in his presence, to remind her who she belonged to and of course it was me. She fucking belonged to me, not my father and I'll make sure she realises that soon. I let the call ring to the end, then….. Ding. A text came up. I exhaled through my nose before finally sliding my phone out of my pocket to see who it was, who sent the text. The screen lit up again and I realised that it was Margaret, my wife. Of course, she'll be the only one who would dare call me like some maniac who lost her senses in an accident. My thumb hovered over the notification, hesitating. The last thing I wanted right now was to hear her voice—that sharp, demanding tone that always seemed to find new ways to grate on my nerves. I still can't believe that I was able to put up with her ass all these while. It still comes as a surprise to me that I was able to endure her. She was way different from Lexi. Heck, there was a stark contrast between her and Lexi. But at the end of the day, I realised that I brought this upon myself. If I hadn't been so drunk that night after Lexi was sent to jail, I wouldn't have slept with her and she wouldn't have gotten pregnant and had my child. And I wouldn't be here, tied to her in this shitty excuse of a marriage. I was about to place the phone back in my pants, but then the message preview appeared: "Pick up your fucking phone, Ethan. Or are you too busy chasing after that bitch to care about your own daughter?" My stomach dropped. Daughter. Lily. What's wrong with her? Before I could process it, the phone rang again. Margaret’s name flashed across the screen, relentless. This time, I answered without hesitation. I needed to know what was wrong with my daughter. Even though I didn't like Margaret, it doesn't mean that I should hate my daughter. She didn't ask to be born after all. Therefore she can't suffer for her mother's crimes. "What?" My voice came out rougher than I intended. Margaret didn’t bother with greetings. "Where the hell have you been?" Her words were like a sharp blade, each one honed to cut deep through me. "I’ve been calling you for twenty minutes!" I clenched my jaw. "I was busy." "Busy?" A bitter laugh. "Let me guess—Lexi? You are going after her again, am I right?” The sound of her name on Margaret’s lips sent a spike of irritation through me. And even though she was right, I was never going to admit to her. "What do you want, Margaret?" There was a pause at the end of the phone, but then, she continued almost immediately. "It’s your daughter." Two words. That’s all it took for the world to tilt. My grip on the phone tightened. "What about her? Is she in danger?” "Worse than that, Ethan. Your daughter is in the hospital fighting for her damn life." The hallway blurred. Hospital. No. What could be the problem this time around? "What happened?" The question tore out of me in a raw tune. Margaret’s voice dropped, venomous. "Lexi happened. That bitch is responsible for what happened to my daughter and I swear I'll never forgive her. I don't care if she goes to prison again.” My heart paused as I heard her words and I found myself wondering; what could that bitch have done to my daughter? First it was her mother, and now it was my daughter? Even though I don't know what she did yet I'll never forgive her if anything happens to my child. Never. "What?" "Lexi pushed her," Margaret spat. "Down the stairs. Lily’s—she’s fighting for her life right now, Ethan. And it’s her fault." The words didn’t make sense. Lexi wouldn’t do such a thing. She wouldn’t cause harm to someone, at least not a two years old child who hasn't done anything to deserve it. She won't hurt a child. At least not my child. She isn't that heartless, right? "You are lying, Margaret.” I breathed out. “It's obvious that you hate Lexi and you want her to go back to prison again. You are simply defaming her.” Margaret let out a sharp scoff "Oh, really? You think I’d make this up? You think I’d lie about our daughter being hurt?" I didn’t answer. I couldn’t bring myself to answer. Because deep down, I knew Lexi. I knew she wasn’t cruel. I knew that she would never hurt a two years old girl. But then Margaret hissed, "Come home. Watch the footage yourself if you don’t believe me." If she was pointing out the footage, it meant that it was proof. What if she was right? Did Lexi really hurt my daughter? Don't tell me that I just supported her, I just took sides with her….. My blood ran cold as I thought about the possibility of her hurting my daughter, who had done nothing to deserve what she did to her. The call ended before I could respond. I stood there, phone clutched in my hand, my pulse roaring in my ears. Lexi. Lexi did this. She hurt my daughter. She fucking hurt my daughter. And now she has to pay for what she did. I turned and walked back into the house. All I needed was vengeance.Lexie's POV "Alexandra Thompson, you have been granted your freedom." Your appeal has been approved. "From this day forward, you are no longer confined to this cell. You are now a free woman," the warden announced, his voice firm but laced with empathy. All I could do was stare at the middle-aged man in disbelief, my mind racing with his words. “What did you just say, Mr Felix?” I asked in shock. I had to make sure I heard him clearly. “Congratulations, Miss Lexi. Try as much as possible to stay out of trouble, so you don't come back here. You could lose your senses. Stay safe,” He flashed a smile at me before walking away. Goodness! This was finally happening! I've finally been released from this hell hole after three painful years. After what felt like forever, I stood up from the bench as I made my way out of the cold, grey prison walls, feeling the warm sun on my skin for the first time in three years. I took a deep breath, to calm my frazzled nerves. I can't be
Lexis's POV I stumbled out of the house, my heart heavy with the height of Ethan's betrayal. I can't believe that he would do such a thing to me. Moving on so fast and worst of all, with my step sister. I swear, if it were someone else, I wouldn't have been so angry like I am now. I have long expected a lot of things from my family. Even though I was still shocked that my step mother would pay the wardens to kill me, I'm not surprised. She is a cruel woman and she would do anything to get whatever she wants. If she could kill my mother, who was once her best friend, just because she wanted the company, she would do anything. If she could seduce my father and get pregnant for him when my mother was still barren, she would do anything. So I'm not even surprised that she wanted me dead. She wants to wipe me off the face of the earth so that she would keep the company to herself, I guess. But never for once did it cross my mind that Ethan would betray me too. The pain and anger th
Lexi's POV Unable to bear it anymore, I turned and walked away, leaving my family to their mocking laughter. I have a long and difficult road ahead of me, but I was determined to succeed. I wanted to reclaim my mother's company, Eclipse Holdings, and restore it back to its former glory. I would get my mother's properties and I'll clear my name. I'll let everyone know that I wasn't responsible for my mother's death. I'll let everyone know that the real culprits are my father, my step mother and step sister. Before anything else, I got to the bank and withdrew some funds from my account. Claudia and my father have freezed all my accounts, including my mom's own, but little did they know that there was one bank account left. Only my mother and I have access to it. When I was done, I made my way straight to the cab station, ready to go to my mother's company, my heart racing with anticipation. I hadn't set foot in the building since her death and the thought of going back the
Lexi's POV He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Yes. I'm sorry for hitting you with my car” he said. I felt a shiver run down my spine at the huskiness of his voice. “It's fine,” I said as I tried to leave the bed, but he pushed me back gently. “You can't leave. The doctor said you need to rest,” He said softly, but I shook my head. “I can't stay here. I have important things to attend to,” I said firmly, but he shook his head. “You have to rest. You have been through hell already,” He said. I couldn't help but feel that he wanted something from me. “What do you want from me?” I asked as I folded my hands across my chest and he chuckled. “You are indeed smart,” he said, as he winked at me. He stood up from where he sat and walked towards the window, with his hands behind his back but he turned to face me. “First things first, we have to introduce ourselves. We are no longer together” I answered, my eyes never for once leaving Ethan's face. Ethan's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched. “So, you are the one who has been fucking my father, huh? You are the bitch that my father wants me to meet, huh?” He sneered and I rolled my eyes. “You were so desperate for a man's touch that you had to go after my father. Just how shameless can you be, Lexi? It could have been someone else for heaven's sake” I felt a surge of rage at his words, but I kept my cool. I can't let him know that his words were getting to me. Ethan was a punk and he would be pleased to know that his words were affecting me. I can't give him that satisfaction. “To hell with you, Ethan. You have no right to speak to me like that,” I spat my voice barely audible. “You betrayed me by fucking my
Lexi's POV I shrugged Julian away, my face burning with embarrassment. “I…I didn't mean to kiss you like that. It was just to prove a point to your son. That's all,” I really hope he buys my words, but instead his eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint, his gaze holding mine. “I think you did mean it, Lexi. And I meant it too. I want us to continue this…from where we stopped,” I stepped away from him, my face still burning with embarrassment. “No, Julian. I didn't mean it like that,” My voice was firm, but my eyes betrayed me, darting away from his intense gaze. “Are you sure about that little princess?” He asked as he took slow and steady steps closer to me. The way he said the word ‘little princess’, sent a shiver down my spine. “Come on, Lexi,” I chided myself as I stepped back, trying to provide a room to be able to run away. But he didn't give me any chance. He placed his hands on my waist and pulled me closer to him. “I swear to God, I didn't mean it like that, Julia
Lexi's POV “You bitch!” Claudia scoffed. Just as she was about to lunge at me again, my father's voice rang out, his eyes flashing with anger. “That's enough, Claudia,” he said, his voice firm, his deep tone echoing through the room. I watched as Claudia's face turned red with rage, her eyes blazing with fury. “Just stop it, Jenkins. You are the reason why she is a spoiled princess,’’ She hissed and I rolled my eyes. “If there is one person who is spoiled here, then it's your daughter.” I said through gritted teeth. “How dare you talk back to me?” Claudia's face turned red with rage, her eyes blazing with fury. “Please, Claudia. This is not why we called her here. Don't screw this up,” Claudia tried to protest, but she held herself. She seemed to realize that she couldn't take on my father like she always did. At least not at this moment. She shot me a death glare before walking away, her high heels clicking on the marble floor. Margaret glared at me too before stalking
Lexi's Point Of View “Oh my goodness!” Margaret's scream sounded behind me. I was too stunned to move or say anything. It was only then that I snapped back to reality, but even though I did, I couldn't move. You are the main reason why she's in this condition.” My father's voice sounded behind me, nudging me. My hands moved on their own accord and I reached for my phone at the back of my pants. How could they be asking me to call an ambulance when the best they could have done was to find a way and get her to the hospital. Well, since that's what they wanted, I wasn't in the mood

ETHAN'S POINT OF VIEW The elevator doors slid open with a gentle sound and I stepped out, my polished shoes clicking against the marble floor. The lobby was quiet as usual, but this time around I noticed that it was unusually quiet and the only sound was just the hum of distant air conditioning and the faint sound of the cars driving on the main road. My mind was still reeling from the anger I had felt in my father's suite some minutes ago. I had gone there to speak with him, to make him let go of Lexi, so I could win her back and have her to myself. Heck, I had even gone as far as telling him that she was a prostitute who had been fucked countless times by I and my friends, but trust me, that was a big fat lie because all the time that Lexi and I were together, we came to an agreement that we wouldn't have sex with each other until whenever we got married. That was her decision and boy, I was totally fine with it. I loved her enough to respect her body and her decision. We da
JULIAN’S POINT OF VIEW The night air was filled with the harsh scent of tobacco and the distant murmur and cars of the city below. I leaned back in my chair and watched the scenery with great interest, the familiar weight of a cigarette between my fingers. The balcony of my study had always been my refuge…. A place where my past, the heavy weight of my past don't suffocate me as much as my room did. It was a place where I can boldly let go of my problems without feeling guilty about it. All of a sudden, the door creaked open behind me, the sound echoing through the stillness, as it tore me away from my thoughts. I didn't need to go around to know who it was. I needed no soothsayer to point it out. Only one person would ever barge into my space without knocking. His presence had always been like a storm rolling in uninvited. My unfilial son! Somehow I had gotten used to his obnoxious behaviour. I just had to force myself. "Still poisoning yourself huh, old man?" His voi
Author's Point Of View The whiskey in Ethan’s glass was the same shade of amber as Lexi’s eyes—back when she used to look at him like he was her entire world, like he was all that mattered, like there was no one else, nothing else. Back before she was sent to prison like a criminal, before betrayal, before his father’s wedding ring was placed around her finger. He swirled the ice cubes absently, watching them clink against the glass. The bar around him was glinting with neon lights and filled with the sounds of drunken laughter, but Ethan barely heard any of it. Not when his mind was filled with a lot of memories, old memories that have come back to taunt him after three years. Lexi's smile, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear when she was nervous, or the way she fondled with her fingers like a puppy whenever she wanted him to do something for her, the sound of her voice whispering ‘I love you Ethan's in the dark. And the other memories. The arrest. The trial. The way
