Margot stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her burgundy blazer suit perfectly captured her body curves. The dark color of her clothes matched her skin tone, making her look ravishing, yet bold, at the same time.

“It’s all about a good night’s sleep,” Margot commented and smiled at herself.

Last night, Harry wouldn’t stop complaining about what she did—calling an ambulance on him and his secretary. He had so many things to say, and she knew it wouldn’t end until she apologized. She had no intention of doing so, so she went to the guest room and locked herself there to sleep.

She later realized it was the best decision since marrying her husband.

Margot meant it when she said she was going to start working on the same day she was hired. After a brief introduction with her team, she started checking the competitive analysis for similar products that the company was about to launch. Everything was fine, but she wasn’t fully satisfied.“This is not going to work,” Margot stated as she let out a deep sigh. “I can’t believe they’re wasting a lot of money on products like this. Anyone could sell the same beauty products these days. Do they really think the company would profit from this?”She took off her glasses and brushed her hair up. It was only the first day, but Margot couldn’t sit still and do nothing when she saw a lot of errors in the way the previous manager managed the products they sold.

Leo tapped his fingers on the table. It had been fifteen minutes since he hung up the call with Margot. The latter said nothing and cried over the phone for five minutes. After that, he made sure to tell her to come to the hospital so they could meet. Although Margot didn’t say she’d come, he assumed she would and had been waiting for her.“Doc, I don’t think she’s still coming. She probably went home to rest,” Hannah said, enduring the noise caused by the doctor’s tapping.“Home? She wouldn’t want to be there if the reason she cried again was her husband,” Leo commented, furrowing his eyebrows as he started pacing back and forth.Hannah was almost done getting ready to leave. She wasn’t working overtime and she wished the doctor would do the same. Otherwise, she’d end up handling tons of work again if he couldn’t manage to finish them in his condition.“I understand you’re worried about the patient. Even I was worried too, but you can’t just stay here and wait for her until she comes

  • The Good Wife's Enemy   17: Tears, Again

Margot woke up to the gentle taps on her cheek. She was welcomed by Leo who looked at her with a frown. She didn’t realize it before, but Leo seemed to love frowning a lot.“We’re here. Let’s get something to eat first, then I’m sending you home,” he said, tilting his head outside. Going out for dinner wasn’t in his plan. But just before Margot could tell him her house address, she fell asleep.Leo considered waking her up, but she looked tired, so he went ahead to get a reservation in a restaurant and parked his car outside for a couple of hours, watching Margot sleep.“Ah, now that you mentioned it, I’m starving. I only had a sandwich for lunch and compared to the energy I spent working, a sandwich was not enough,” she said, forcing a smile.“I knew it. You were whispering like a ghost when I called you earlier because you’re hungry, right? Let’s go. It’s my treat,” Leo smiled and got out of the car. He rushed to the other side to open the door for her but Margot was already outside.

“Thanks for driving me home,” Margot thanked Leo after getting out of his car. She was embarrassed about what happened. She never thought that even outside his office, she’d still cry a lot.“Don’t mention it. I’m glad to help,” Leo replied.Margot waved her hand and smiled. “Drive safe,” she added and watched the car leave.Letting out a deep sigh, Margot went inside the house. The lights were still off and Harry’s car was nowhere to be found. Her chest ached at the thought that he was probably spending the night with his younger woman.“There’s no chance he’ll change. Divorce isn’t enough to make him pay,” Margot said, marching upstairs. She checked their bedroom, only to reminisce about the times when she thought she was happy.“What went wrong, Harry? I chose you over everything and you chose someone else over me,” tears pooled in Margot’s eyes. Her shaking hand let go of the knob after closing the door. The more she looked at their bedroom, where they shared precious memories, th

  • The Good Wife's Enemy   19: A Battle To Win

As the chairman of a huge company, every day was like a battle for Ryan Vanders. He never wasted his time arguing with people he couldn’t beat. He would rather avoid getting into such a mess than explain himself. When Margot was born, Ryan was glad he had a daughter. He was more grateful to have a daughter than a son, who might end up causing him headaches when growing up. It was two decades later when he realized that a daughter was scarier than a dozen men. “Yes. I’ll be coming home tonight. I’m looking forward to—” “Dad!” Ryan jolted from his seat. It had been a while since he heard that familiar scream. “Margot? What happened?” he asked his daughter who was looking at him in disappointment. He didn’t know what caused her to do that but he could already guess it wasn’t going to be a hell of a battle. Margot rushed before him and slammed his table. “Why would you let that woman in the company? You even allowed her to have an executive position! When your daughter asked for a job

“Margot? What are you doing here?”Margot raised her eyebrow. To think Emma was questioning her presence in the company when her father owned it, and her husband was the CEO. On the other hand, Emma, although Harry’s mother, and had no work experience, bagged an executive position in the company.“Oh, weren’t you just talking about me? I’m the newly hired product manager,” Margot smiled at her mother-in-law and handed her the new plan she prepared for the upcoming launch of their new product.“Miss Vanders! What do you think you’re doing? That plan was already rejected,” Vivian mocked. “I’m taking care of it, so you should take a step back.”Margot just glanced at the senior manager and faced the COO instead. She could tell that the two were working together. Otherwise, who would submit and approve a plan that required a ridiculous amount of funds and barely earned a profit for the company?Emma sighed, wiping her face as she gestured for Vivian to leave. “What is it that you want? “Ma’am! It’s approved. How did you do it?” Marie exclaimed in excitement after the project plan we submitted was approved.I shrugged. “It’s better than the other plans from the other teams,” I said, stating the facts. Vivian was adamant about submitting our proposal, not because it didn’t have potential, but because she knew she wouldn’t get a penny from it.“Still! The senior product manager wouldn’t just stand by after you got the approval you wanted. She was so sure that it would be rejected,” Marie said, worried about Vivian who was known to have a close relationship with the COO.“Well, let’s say we’re lucky this time. That’s why I need you to work harder and cooperate. It’s not like I’m asking you to work 24/7. You have 8 hours in the office so make sure you do your best within that time. After work, you wouldn’t have to worry about unfinished tasks while spending your time with yourself or your family,” Margot told her team.“Anyway, we’re not stopping her. We have a lot to pr

Margot threw herself on the sofa, rubbing her forehead with closed eyes. She didn’t think she’d enjoy partying with her colleagues in the club. She watched them dance as she sat in the corner, drinking some rum, and it was fun. Her initial plan to go home at 8 was extended to 9, then 10, sobered up at 11 and finally went home at midnight.“Where have you been?” Harry’s voice broke the silence in the house. His expression darkened when he saw his wife lying on the sofa, a strong smell of alcohol coming from her.“Goodness, Margot! You’re drunk?” Harry held his wife in both arms and shook her. “Who were you drinking with? For Pete’s sake, you came home late, again!”Margot just stared at Harry and giggled. She couldn’t help but laugh at how stupid his husband could be to be dating a younger woman who messing with other men aside from him.‘Birds with the same feathers, huh?’ Margot thought as she laughed, looking at her husband’s clueless expression before her.Harry clicked his tongue

Harry sneered at his wife. “Better plans? What, divorcing me? No wonder you wouldn’t drop the talk about divorce. You’re using Nadine to get out of this marriage while acting like a victim. Hah! I didn’t expect you to have it in you—”A loud bang interrupted Harry when Leo slammed his hands on the table.“Excuse me, but I don’t think you should be doing this in my office,” he said, glancing over at Margot. “Especially when I have an ongoing session with a patient,” Leo stated, his voice laced with threat and hostility, hidden behind a deceptive smile he honed for years.“A patient, huh? What do you know?” Harry lashed out, glaring at him. “Do you even have an idea that she’s married? What an ignorant fool,” he commented.Margot sighed in exasperation. “Stop making a scene, Harry. You’re only embarrassing yourself,” she muttered before turning to Leo. “My apologies for this disturbance. Thank you for your assistance until now, Dr. Brown.” She smiled at the doctor and headed out.“Come o

“Is everything alright?” Rosaline asked Margot, watching her vomit in the sink. The young woman looked horrified seeing her sister-in-law pale and gasping for breath.Margot nodded, wiping her lips. “Yeah. Don’t mind me,” she replied, but before she could make up an excuse, her stomach churned once again, leading her to continue puking.Rosaline watched her helplessly while rubbing her back. “I think I should call the doctor,” she said, feeling bad for Margot. “You look sick,” Rosaline insisted.“No, I’m fine. I’m almost done,” Margot smiled. She looked up after some time with teary eyes. “Relax. It’s fine. I’m fine,” she told Rosaline whose face was painted with concern.“Woah! That was longer than usual,” Margot muttered, washing her mouth. She smiled at Rosaline to reassure her that she was indeed fine. “It’s… Um…”Margot hesitated to tell Rosaline about her pregnancy. She wanted to keep it from Harry, after all. Not that she didn’t trust Rosaline, but she thought it would be bette

“I couldn’t believe rumors like that are spreading within the employees,” Margot said, shaking her head in disbelief. She headed straight to her father’s office after meeting with Vivian.“Rumors tend to be exaggerated. So, did you decide to quit? And here I thought you’d take my position no matter what,” Ryan smirked, observing his daughter’s reaction.Margot shrugged. “It’s not that hard. I’ll just wait until you peacefully give up that seat of yours, then we won’t waste any time, or I can just kick out the current CEO and maybe start from there before becoming the chairman,” she nonchalantly replied. “What do you think is the best option?”Ryan sighed. “It’s too early for my retirement. So, why don’t you take the second option? It will benefit both you and the company,” he grinned, relying on his daughter’s ability.“Oh! Why do I feel like you’re just using me to get rid of the people you allowed in the company in the first place?” Margot rubbed her temple. “Well, you’re in luck. I

Margot grabbed her phone, calling the cops. She couldn’t believe Harry would be shameless to show up after what happened last night. She took a deep breath and waited until someone picked up her call.“Hi, this is Margot… Um… Walton. My husband, Harry Walton, who is already on your record for abuse, has come to my house again. I have a restraining order against him, and I feel threatened,” Margot said, looking at Harry who proudly held his banner.“He is currently on my doorstep, holding a banner that says ‘sorry’, but if you’ve been slapped and cheated on by this guy several times, that word wouldn’t be enough. I need immediate assistance to ensure my safety,” she continued. After giving her address to the cops, Margot called her lawyer.“Hello, Atty. Powell. It’s about the restraining order I requested that you process this morning… Hmm… Yes, please. I may need it. Harry’s back at my house,” Margot sighed, rubbing her temple. “I’ll be right there just in case. How about the matter

She realized Linda never acted that way until she told her about Harry’s illicit affair. She appreciated her company and couldn’t thank her enough for taking her side.“It’s okay. He won’t be able to do it again,” Margot replied before taking a spoonful of cake in her mouth. “I’ll make sure to send him where he belongs.”Linda bobbed her head with a gentle smile. “I’m glad to hear that. He was almost sure she was also having an affair behind his back. “I’m telling you, Margot. I’ll keep my lips sealed about it if you want. But you have to clarify that we’re not having problems and what happened at the party last time was a misunderstanding.”A sly smile formed on his lips. “What do you think?”Margot’s face was painted with disgust. “Go ahead. I don’t know what made you think I'm like you, but good luck anyway.”She walked away when Harry opened his mouth again.“Leo Brown,” he said, following her. “Isn’t that name familiar?
