Chapter 1

The city of Gai Wei filled in with travellers, coming from different villages, as they mingled around some carrying heavy loads on their backs. The locals do their daily routines. Creaking sounds of carts are heard, as they pass through inns and markets of the city. It was a time of festivities so it was normal to see the city fully packed. Lanterns hang freely as the cold breeze touched them one after the other. Children ran around as they chased after the orange and hot anvil lanterns floating in the air. Young misses of the rich families wandered around looking for dresses for the night. Some took interest in hair accessories. The young men were at a close distance trying their chances with these beautiful ladies. Some men on horsebacks moved as fast as they could while shouting for the masses to disperse so that they could pass through. They wore shiny armour which was tainted with blood, carrying bows and arrows on their backs. Their swords were suspended at their sides. They

Chapter 2

The inn became eerily silent as everyone who stayed there gathered to see the drama unfold. The hallway filled in, leaving every room empty. The two sisters looked at the man in front of them. Cheng Min fidgeted as she felt something cold on her neck. She looked at the shiny object slightly bending sideways to see that she was the target. The sword was nearly cutting through her soft white skin. She became confused as to why this man had picked her, instead of the villainess beside her. "How unlucky is she going to be?" She angrily looked at Xue Han who stared back at her with that look he often used to order his man around. That look that sent chills to everyone when they looked him in the eye. That look that willed the victim to render to his command. He wanted to scare the little girls away so that he could get back to sleep. It had been a while since he had a peaceful sleep. He had spent sleepless nights thinking through his plans to defeat the enemy. Now these girls. Surely the

The child is too ill-mannered. She sometimes wonders why she was so different from her other children, Cheng Yan and Cheng Sun. Cheng Min had left home a few months ago and now she has returned. Xiao Shi thought her child would come back as a better person, but now she has become much worse. In the afternoon Cheng Min had arrived with Cheng Sun in time for lunch. They had joined in. Chapter 4

The following morning, the young lady did not even pay respect to her parents. She rather hurriedly left without having any food with her close servant in tow. The two strolled in the street seeing the common folks getting ready as they set up their place to sell their things. She observed everything that was happening, the greetings the people exchanged, the smiles they showed as others shouted at passing people to come to stop by. The two continued to walk down the road looking at the inns and markets as they opened doors to let people in. Seeing the inn she had been in a few days ago, it reminded her of the argument she had with her sister. She could not feel any better remembering a certain someone degrading her. She felt like strangling him and she was certain that the next time they met he was going to die by her hands. "My lady, we have been walking for so long. If you feel tired can I find somewhere to rest? Perhaps get some food, you haven't eaten anything since morning. Y

Chapter 5

... On the camp Yiding mountain where the cold ruled over the huge domain. Some tents were set up in a dome shape except one which was quite bigger than the other tents, and it was slightly on the top ground. All were pure white signalling the enemies or the ordinary people to stay away. A couple of red flags which were made of thin silk, flattered in the freezing air. Showing off the head of an eagle drawn in black at its center. The army had been staying at this mountain for a fortnight, waking and training, doing the same routine over and over again. The soldiers sparred with wooden swords, some enhanced their archery at the training ground. No one sat doing nothing, some of the new recruits were helping out with cleaning and wiping the weapons which were dirtied in previous battle. Some were cooking meals and fetching water at the river which was a few meters away and some also carried the wooden containers in both hands. Of which each carried two buckets per each person.

Chapter 6

"My lady! Young master is back." Tian Li informed Cheng Min who was busy having her tea early in the morning. It was like any other day during this time when winter was near. Every day she would wake up early and drink her tea before preparing to head out. It has been several weeks since it's been like this. After her return from the town that day, she thought of lying low before planning to do some small business, but who knew that her favourite person would be back. She looked up, her eyes twinkling like stars. She let go of the tea cup which fell with a thud as it shattered on the floor splashing the remaining tea. She didn't mind the mess instead she excitedly stood up and hurried out not even putting on her shoes. As she ran towards her brother, Cheng Yan who at the time had returned home after being away from it since the last winter. He sat in the pavilion with his other sister, mother and father who were busy chirping, asking him about his journey and so on. He wore simple

"Gege, hurry up or we will be late." Cheng Min called out to Cheng Yan who at the moment was taking so long to get some silver and gold pieces from his room to spend on the road. Cheng Min had planned to travel with him after knowing that he was not staying for long. At first, he had refused, telling her that it would be dangerous, he even tried to instil some terrifying images in her head but to vain. His sweet little sister managed to convince him telling him that it was enough that he was there. Of course, the infatuated brother was very glad to know that she depended on him and trusted him with her life. He carelessly gave his word before realizing what he had done in one of those moments. He walked out of his house still feeling worried. "Will you be okay? There are bandits on the way and we will be spending nights outside." "Yes I know but still you shouldn't go back on your word. You agreed so now let's go." She cut him off before he could say anything on the matter. They go

Cheng Yan knew that if he made any careless moves then he would be dead so he did as he was told. "Turn around slowly." The other kept on demanding as he tightened his grip on the sword bringing it closer to his neck. Cheng Yan felt some pain on where the sword had cut. He brought up his hand and pressed on the wound to stop the bleeding. Whilst he was doing all that he also turned around not wanting to aggravate the attacker more. If looks could kill he would have died the moment he took in the image of the man standing in front of him. He was very handsome and looked very cool with the way he was handling his sword with a cold air around him. Cheng Yan took in his image as if he was drinking water. Even his Adam's apple was dancing to every saliva he was gorging down. The wound was long forgotten. When the man noticed him being like that, he scowled. He had never met such a shameless person before. After all, everyone feared him except that little girl he met at the inn. When h

While sitting in a cold dark room, Cheng Yan looked through the bars that was restricting his freedom. He wanted to check if the guards were still on their shift. When he found no one he rose quietly not wanting to disturb his little sister's sleep. After checking to see that she was sleeping comfortably, he turned away and took a few steps toward the small window where some moonlight was entering through. He whistled softly for a couple of times and stopped as if he was waiting for something to appear. In a while, he heard flapping sounds as if something was approaching him. A white pigeon landed on the window seal, on it's leg there was a small pouch where he put on a letter he had written during the day. He was fortunate because he always travelled around with paper and ink which he would hide somewhere in his clothes. He was also lucky because when the guards searched him they didn't find it on him. After successfully putting the small piece of paper on the bird, Cheng Yan spoke

Xue Han was left in a very bad mood. He clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging deep into his palm. His hand ended up dripping with a trail of blood. All that filled his mind was the way Cheng Yan behaved with him right now. He knew for sure that he was the one who had stolen the supplies. Xue Han wasn't so sure on how he had managed to do it. He laid his back on his chair and rested his head on the palm of his hand. After seeing a pile of reports waiting on the side of the table he picked up a few and started to go through them. It was after a shichen when his deputy came to seek him. He was a little on urge, while informing him on what the crown prince had ordered. Upon hearing Wang Fu mentioning the sibling's names in his report, General Xue Han felt his emotions shoot but he still remained calm. "I will see what I can do about it." Xue Han finished their talk. He stood up and exited the tent. The first thing he did was go to the tent with the supplies to check if anythi
