Chapter Two

I waited in the food court, bouncing my leg rapidly. It was always my nervous habit. That, or biting my nails. I hadn't seen anyone since I left to go and stay in Forks. I obviously texted them all and told them what was going on and... Well, I had to tell my best friends about my daughter, they were all super excited to meet her, but, I don't know...

I bailed on them all for months, none of them came to visit me when I was away, I guess I shouldn't just expect everyone to just drop whatever they were doing in their lives and come and see me but... No one even offered...

They would say something in passing like ''we'll meet up when you're back, you're probably under a lot of pressure right now anyway'', I couldn't be mad at them... I just hope they weren't mad at me.

I kept checking my phone, checking the time and seeing if I had any texts or missed calls. They were all taking a long ass time to get here, which wasn't helping my ''worried they might be mad'' worry.

My phone vibrated and I eagerly checked hoping it was one of my friends, but it wasn't, it was Roman;

''Hey, your mum has invited me over for dinner. I just wanted to be sure that's ok with you?''

Why would she invite him for dinner?!

''Be a bit awkward, but I can't say otherwise, mum invited you. How come she did that?''

He replied almost instantly;

''I had dinner a lot with them when you were away''.

Oh, I didn't know that. I was about to reply when I heard some familiar voices and looked up, a smile instantly breaking out across my face when I saw them.

My gang, holding giant pink ''congratulations'' and ''new baby'' balloons, gift bags in hand. Oh my gosh. I jumped up from my seat and ran to give them all a big hug.

God, I missed them!

'Is this why you're all late!?' I asked, unable to stop smiling.

'Yeah, we thought we would get more than a half an hour warning to plan something better, but balloons and gifts will have to make up for it'. Lea told me as I wrapped her up in a big hug! I was surprised to see Abby with them and smiled at her.

'Hey'. I greeted her. She smiled back and pulled me into a hug, the awkwardness just washing away.

I hugged Kayla and Jones, I was so glad that they stayed together. While I was gone, about four months ago, they broke up; briefly, I don't know why, Kayla was distraught and didn't want to go into details, but they clearly managed to work it out, and I was glad.

We all went back to the table and I sent Lead up to the milkshake counter with my bank card. I'd have gone myself but the rest of the gang wanted me to open my presents and, well, she offered. 

They were all a bit gutted that I hadn't brought Haley with me for them to meet her but as soon as I suggested they should come round and see her when we were finished at the mall, they instantly cheered up.

Some of the gifts were for the baby, so I said I would wait until we got back to the house to open them with her, the ones for me though consisted of some bath sets and chocolates, among other things.

Lea got back to the table with a tray of drinks and passed them around. We just sat and chatted amongst ourselves until we finished them and all headed to Jones' car to go back to mine. I gave my mum a text when she set off to just give her some warning and then saw I hadn't replied to Roman's last message.

My fingers hovered over the keypad on the screen, not sure what to type back, so, I just didn't type anything at all. Sometimes some messages don't require a reply...

I put my phone away and joined in the conversation that was currently going on in the car, which was just asking Lea when she was going back to school...

Pulling up on the drive, We all got out and headed inside. Movement caught my eye and I looked over to see Roman chatting to one of the other neighbours.

I couldn't help but let my thoughts wander about how attractive he looked in his casual jeans and T-shirt that hugged his body.

'What is going on with you and the baby daddy?' Lea asked, walking back out of my house and surprising me. I shrugged it off and pretended like I was looking at something else. 'I know you really cared about him'. I nodded.

'Yeah, I did'.

'And now you have Haley together... ' I nodded. 'I don't know all the ins and outs of what happened with you two, but if the feelings are still there, maybe see if you can work it out... You know? Be a family?'

'How can we be a family? Even if we ''tried again'' as soon as my parents found out... it's game over for both of us'. She shrugged.

'Sometimes the heart wants what it wants, and if your heart wants him... F*ck the consequences'. She smiled at me and walked back into the house. I watched her go and stole another look over to Roman, he was still talking and hadn't realised I was watching him.

Probably for the best anyway.

Sighing, I just headed into the house and closed the door behind myself...
