Chapter 1

I rubbed my sweaty hands up and down my gown as I tried to look away from the doorway as it creaked open again, the sound vibrating then stopping like it has been doing for the past hour.

I felt a light tap on my shoulder and looked back at a smiling amara.

Amara, my roommate of almost two years flashed me one of her famous blinding smile.

I could remember when I just saw Amara for the first time, I came to the conclusion on the spot that I didn't like her after assessing her for a few minutes, her smiles were always too beautiful, making her appear very happy. I don't even remember why I agreed to not wanting her for a friend in the first place.

Most of our lecturers ended up liking her immediately, as her aura alone was accepting and inviting, that alone was working wonders on not just the students but on the lecturer.

Surprisingly, we became very close friends some months after we resumed in our first year and here we are today, we're best friends and roommates of almost two years.

"Yeah?" I asked as I raised my brow when she started smiling her one of her irritating smiles again before letting out.

"I know why you're so flustered, it's because of Silas, right?" She wiggled her brows before continuing.

"Just admit if you have a crush on him or not, sheeeze!" She snickered, pulling her braids backwards when they dropped all over her face.

"Girls and their problems." Abu butted in.

Abu, and I met when I was six years old, he can be an idiot most times but who isn't an idiot once in a while anyways?  He's an amazing person too, he's just dumb along with being brilliant.

We are close Friends who tell each other almost everything. I sighed and rolled my eyes as amara smacked his arm before scolding him.

"Was she talking to you in the first place? And what's the 'girls and their problems' supposed to mean? It's not our business and problem that your crush doesn't like you back." Amara ended with sarcastic air quotes as she look him up and down from beneath her eye lashes before brushing him off like an annoying fly.

She rambled on and on as I zoned out again day dreaming about Silas, like I always doing, consciously and unconsciously.

Silas's a new student, he came to our school four weeks ago from another school which he was transferred from since he requested for a transfer, he's a very brilliant student, that's one of the reasons why Abu doesn't like him, because he's always trying to beat Silas in any thing in class, be it home work, class work, extra curricular activities, debates and the rest. Abu's a very competitive soul and hates when he isn't the best at something, it's a nice zeal and all but it sometimes gets irritating, especially when he's always ranting to me about how Silas is this and Silas is that, as if I'll ever find fault in anything he does.

I blinked slowly when Amara tapped me again.

"What is it? Ughh!"  I asked, feeling irritated all of a sudden. Amara who's already used to my weird mood swings just rolled her eyes and whispered.

"Silas's coming, don't look back, you'll seem so obvious, just pretend as if you're talking to me." I nodded my head as I got very tempted to take a glance, I whirled my head around slowly to get a quick glimpse but Amara pulled the tip of my ear stubbornly and rolled her eyes before admonishing again.

"I said not to look back dummy, oh! He isn't alone, he isn't!" She squeaked.

"Who's he with?" I pressed, almost turning my head around, not caring if I'll be so obvious.

"Oh, he's with Zoe and Rita." I fumed, Oof! Rita of all people, and Zoe? Shy Zoe? I hated Zoe, she's always loved by everyone, and I meant everyone, even Amara and Abu are totally cool with her. I scoffed, why are those two ducks always with him? It's so unfair!.

"Hey, he's staring at you!"

I hate tensions.

Amara squeaked again and I almost fainted, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. I chanted to myself as I tried to calm my wayward breathing.

"He's coming this way." Amara whispered as she made to leave her seat.

"Where are you going?" I peeped.

"Please don't leave me alone, I'm not prepared for this at all." I pleaded as I pulled her back into her seat when she actually started leaving her seat to my dread.

"Oh well, I'll stay. Oh, he's not coming here." She face palmed herself and for a moment and I got tempted to pull her long braids.

"He isn't?" I groaned. All these anxiety for nothing, I let out a deep breath as I made to face the front of the class.

"He isn't, he took the seat before yours, Zoe's sitting in his laps and Rita is tapping away on her phone." She explained.

"I'm just gonna sit properly and pretend as if nothing happened." I told her and she smiled before nodding her head and giving me a 'go for it' sign.

I turned properly in my seat, looking forward and cursing my luck as my eyes met Silas's above Zoe's head. He winked at me before facing the front of the class, leaving me flustered with lips parted and heart racing again.

I slumped down in my chair like a sack of potatoes, suddenly tired of school today and wanting to go home, I have had enough of today.

I groaned and closed my eyes when Linda passed my seat, hissing and glaring at me for another stupid reason, I am sure.

Urg! I hate today, I groaned again as I tried to tune out everything.

A few seconds later, Abu tapped my shoulders and said.

"Fay!! look's who's coming."
